Malibu Ken took a few plays to really hook me. I think what made me like it was that it had a familiar feeling that I can only explain as seeming like a more expirimental version of Blockhead production. Absolutely love both albums though
It's "the revolution will NOT have jazz hands" lol (around 2:40) Great review as always but i think you overlook the lyrical content of this album. To me, this is Aesop Rock's ideology distilled into it's purest form to date. In a lot of ways, in terms of subject matter and gravitas it feels like his finest work, like a marriage of the inviting personal introspection of Impossible Kid and the....I guess the more gritty and psychedelic personal introspection of SWFG. It feels like there's more clarity here bridging the two attitudes from those albums, combined with the social critiques and Fear and Loathing that permeates his writing but that has a more tangible than ever delivery here. I'd say it's easily in the top 3 Aesop Rock albums, if not the tip top.
Blockhead's tracks are great. Of course it doesn't sound like Labor Days, these dudes have grown a lot since then, so has everything. The tracks feel very inviting to me, somewhat sanitized (this is my only real critique with a lot of Aesop songs), but funky and densely textured in a way that this album feels like candied salmon to my ears whereas SWFG was like a hearty granola
I’m in the minority here but I think Fizz is my favorite track on the record. Aesop’s hooks aren’t exactly groundbreaking but the verses between are just great. “Miffed, stabbed and flat dissed / Add a little music and the dagger do the twist” has his signature style of painting a picture both cartoonish and morbid at the same time, while “Get accustomed to the irritated easily / I cannot be trusted if motherfuckers is tweedle dee” might be my favorite line on the whole record. Otherwise, I agree with your breakdown and I think a 7/10 is fair. Cheers!
I hope you do a full length review of this new Jedi Mind Tricks album that drops tonight. It's their tenth album and their 25th year as a musical act. We need Melon to add to the celebration
Its not up there with Impossible Kid imo, and definitely feels less out there than Spirit World Field Guide. That being said it is good albumn with a lot of call backs (at least production wise) to Aesop's earlier work, but in general feels a lot tighter than a lot of the albums from back in the day. Big fan of the album, but Impossible Kid is still number 1 in my book
Skelethon and TIK have been his only albums that were immediate favorites for me, the rest have been great, but tend to grow on me. This one came pretty close to TIK for me, but it's still second at best. Not to say it isn't fantastic, because nearly everything he makes is gold.
Pretty sure at this point Aes could rap over almost anything and make it worthwhile. There are very few dudes out there who can even come close to matching his skill.
I heard the flow on Wolf Piss described as the "play dead flow." This description captures it nicely, and I agree with the comments I've read that that flow has got to go. He's overusing it and derivatives of it. And it doesn't sound good.
I’d love for you to go over KAANs album Sunset Crest Dr. He is super underrated and produced this album and it’s his fourth album this year. Definitely a hidden gem and fusion of new and older rap.
Every new Aesop Rock album is his best album. Garbology is fucking amazing. Lyrically, Aes is at the top of his game, and his best hooks to date (arguably the thing most lacking on an Aes joint).

Cheers!
honesty this project was a strong nine to a light ten to me. unreal record
I hope you do a full length review of this new Jedi Mind Tricks album that drops tonight. It's their tenth album and their 25th year as a musical act. We need Melon to add to the celebration
Abandoned Malls is haunting, great album.
Nice Rumours album in the background. One of my favorites.
Because they've collaborated so frequently, they need a name for their projects.
Good Break Down NeedleDrop. I have my Top 3. Glad you shared some similar feelings. Great Review. Thank you and Long Live *LICE!*
Malibu Ken was the most unique sound Aes has ever had.
Can't believe Melon called the album garbage and gave it a 2/10 merely because of its title.
Absolutely love Aesop Rock and in the years since I discovered him I cant say I've ever been disappointed with what he's released
I only came here to read the comments. Also this album is a 10, no questions about it. These songs slap. Aes and block are the greatest
Pretty sure at this point Aes could rap over almost anything and make it worthwhile. There are very few dudes out there who can even come close to matching his skill.
All the Smartest People is no way the worst track period.
I heard the flow on Wolf Piss described as the "play dead flow." This description captures it nicely, and I agree with the comments I've read that that flow has got to go. He's overusing it and derivatives of it. And it doesn't sound good.
Anthony should join IGN with how many 7s he's been giving these albums.
From my pfp, I'm sure you can tell, I think he scored this too low. He just doesn't miss man.
They go together like flies and bowls of acai
This man is 45 and still heads above 97 percent of the rap game
97 more like 77.
@@rakanuaki1812 wrong
@@theretrosavage No I'm right
@@rakanuaki1812 still wrong
@@theretrosavage Aesop is overrated and sucks compared to Eminem. Don't get me wrong he is a highly talented rapper but as being the best NO.
I’ve wanted this so much.
I felt like this album spoke alot about that thing that made you choose the word desperate
I've been paying attention to Aesop since Skelethon. And man hasn't missed at all.
The beat in the beginning of Oh Fudge reminded me of Aesop Rocks album Float.
YOOO HE POSTED IT
Never will I be disappointed
You’re working on the new Corbin album I presume? Let’s get it poppin Fanthony Mantano
Stoked ! Epic album
this unfortunately breaks Aesop's streak of scoring 8/10 on his last few albums for like... at least 5 years on your channel I think?
In hindsight, some of those deserved more than an 8/10.
Nope. He gave spirits guide a 7 too.
"Lifted every tin can, sifted every mess, one man's trash, you know the rest, live it." -Aesop Rock
I’d love for you to go over KAANs album Sunset Crest Dr. He is super underrated and produced this album and it’s his fourth album this year. Definitely a hidden gem and fusion of new and older rap.
Aesop can do no wrong ! I want another hail Hail Mary Mallon album! Rob Sonics new shit is also really gooood!
Hell yea robs so good
the year of 7’s.
Been waiting for this review. Love this album, Aesop and Blockhead don't miss.
Seems like a decent record i’ve never listen to that mutch aesop rock but your reviwes have convinced to give them a try
I really hope we get a tour!!!
Every new Aesop Rock album is his best album. Garbology is fucking amazing. Lyrically, Aes is at the top of his game, and his best hooks to date (arguably the thing most lacking on an Aes joint).
"Owl on my shoulder initials on the katana". Legerdemain is dope af and yeah you can hear Billy Woods saying "Came back different" in the chorus lol
Nitpick: Bazooka Tooth was one of Aesop's self-produced
