thanks graham, as a beginner, this 'how to mix a song from scratch' series is perfect for me to get confirmation on some methods, some extra methods i didn't know and a little of how do other pro's think about mixing. Thank you so much!
Watching this series over 3 years later, using Studio One, and this tutorial is getting me through it, despite me not going to school for this. Thank you! 🙏
Don't ever stop to teach us....No matter how big I become in this music industry I will never stop learning from...YOU...keep it up...keep the fire burning..One love...
i thank u 1000 percent, my mixes are so much better after watching this series, i mastered a track and let a friend hear it, i ddnt tell him i did it he totally freaked out wen i told him i did it.... i had to open tha session and let him hear for him self, u are a realy good teacher
You did a really great job of convincing me that all these little tweaks really do add up. It's taken me forever to really understand this mixing process and how it really can make a difference. This series is was exactly what I was looking for! Great job!
This was a great series Graham, very clear and concise. I enjoyed the comparison at the end of this video, but I have to say that I actually liked the raw sound a little better. Maybe some EQ and a taste of reverb, but I found the delays and heavy verb distracting. I understand that's not the sound you were going for, but my admittedly old acoustic ears think the original sound is more honest. Probably wouldn't sell as much though 😻
Just watched all your videos. Incredible teacher! I already knew some.of the beginner stuff but I still really appreciates hearing you explain it all so well. One of the best series of tutorials for beginner recording I've ever seen. Perfect pace, explanations, and demonstrations. Thank you so much!
Thank you for putting the time into this and other videos. I was pretty much at a road block for weeks where the first video in this series started. Connected ALL the dots🤘🏼
Man you're awesome. I already have the basics since I grew up in this kind of activities but watching your videos takes me in a whole other level. Keep doing good things like this. God bless you
Thank you so much for this crystal-clear, enlightening series on mixing. I watched all six videos twice, the second time taking several personal notes and even drawing some graphs so I won't ever get lost. Now it will be fun to actually know what I'm doing.
Fantastic series Graham. You pretty much explained all my questions about recording and mixing in 12 short videos. Thank you so much. Greetings from Slovakia
OMG I was looking for the name of this telephone EQ for months - finally found it! Also, I kinda did a lot of things intuitively, but learned a lot a stuff during this series nonetheless! Thank you very much! Awesome work as always :)
Genius, back in 2003 I noticed a slight addition to the musical arrangement in the second verse and I noticed it slightly from Kevin Toney. I never forgot it but I should hv made it a big deal and talked about it more because it’s very very important. I need to try it on every song I record lol that’s probably the reason why I’m not selling records like I should. Thanks for mentioning this. I’ll start mentioning this and doing this. Thx again graham
Good stuff. One thing to consider: you can use a compressor to sidechain the level of the delay when you're trying to keep it from competing with the source audio. You may still want/need to automate a wee bit, but it's a lot less tedious and time-consuming to bootstrap the track with the sidechain trick as a starting point. Thanks for these vids -- they're as inspiring as they are informative.
Excellent videos, be very impressed with that mix, to listen to the recording, to the mix everything is heard on your site and very nice, thanks for your tips and tutorials, a hug from Colombia.
These videos are honestly great. I wish you would have talked a little more about mixing instruments rather than the vocals (I make instrumentals) but I still get the point. I am very thankful for this and all the previous videos.
Thank you for this series! I have enjoyed following along from the beginning. As a beginner It gives me some great insight on where to start and where the end goal is.
another awesome video Graham! I'm learning much about the magic of mixing! Thanks so much for this! I feel so blessed to have stumbled upon your channel.
another great series, man! God bless, your videos are really inspiring and music uplifting ;) is there a way we can check out these tracks/singles somewhere? Can't seem to find any links to your stuff anywhere. Greetings from Italy, big fan over here!
Another amazing video! Been loving the mix from scratch vids. Your channel helped me get better mixes in so many ways! Not sure if u already have one but would u consider making a video of editing/cleaning up tracks and preparing them for mixing? Getting them together nice and neat rather than clips everywhere. I tend to move or delete clips by accident. Thanks!
Thanks Graham for this really interesting series! Being a bit tired of getting a band together, i started to experiment with recording on my own. Lessons leaned today! Being vocalist and piano player, i thought with your comments i could make it a good start, however i don't play guitar... well i'm screwed :) But the take home message: can't get your song out of my head now, caught myself whisteling it on my bike in the pouring rain :) can we hear the final result somewhere? Keep up the nice work!
Brilliant Graham great tips.Mixing one of my own songs but gonna go back and try to make it more interesting and Dynamic..Top Man and thanks for all these videos
Great series, thank you Graham. Learnt a lot about the hows and whys although I don't use Pro Tools (but installed Pro Tools First due to this series now :D). Also thank you for the recording from scratch series - that one was great as well.
Do you think you'd be able to make these raw tracks available to download so that people can mix on their own and compare to your mix? Sort of follow along to what you did but with our own personal taste.
Hi Graham - I've always wondered what your music reminds me of and then it came to me: do you know the Tarney-Spencer Band? You have a very similar sound! I know the band from the 70's and also have their LP "Run for your life" (1979) with the hit "No time to lose". Great rock music!
Thank you so much for making and sharing this fantastic series - as an absolute beginner, I have learnt so much from it (but have much practice to do). The "raw" versus "mixed" comparison at the end was very dramatic. Apart from that, the song sounds great - if it is available to buy somewhere, I would love it if you could let us know.
Can you make more videos like mix with me and give us some more songs to mix it is really helping as I don't get much songs to mix which is hampering my mix but actually ur like an angel to me......Man u rocks
Thank you so very much Graham for such a fantastic series of videos, so, so, so! usuful information here and in the other videos also. Continue the good work Graham!
Where can I get this song? It is awesome! The two series were great and the additional PDFs you mention are a great supplement to what you covered in the video. I'm pumped and ready to get started recording again. I've done some stuff in the past just noodling around, but after watching the videos I feel like I have a better sense of direction and understanding. Thanks! is the song on Itunes or Amazon?
J. M. Faupel agreed, that's why I asked. Maybe there's a new process he has, or he has other updated steps for us? It's a fair question for the series since I'm relatively new to his channel. I have my own way of mastering but I would love to see what he has for this series/segment 😊
I'm not sure what his plan is, on the one hand mastering isn't quite part of mixing, but on the other hand he did say it would be a way to get music radio ready which requires mastering so.. Who knows.
I have a question: Is it possible to move your home studio to the basement for a while and then move it back up to record drums? Plus, do you need wifi for any of the mixing or recording?
Great refresher course for me - I'm used to just mixing with karaoke tracks and venturing into making my own music so it's rather foreign to me. Really awesome tips! I was wondering, where are these drum loops from? I've been looking all over for some good ones and have no clue what brands are good haha.
Do you have any instruction on Effx channels, Busses, Sends etc. I am just getting the whole recording and raw mixing down after about a year but don't understand how to do much more
Hi Graham! You are simply the best!!! How to change volume on mix panel if there are some automated tracks. The knobs are coming back to the place where originally. I can't increase or decrease volume on final mix because of this automation. Any suggestions please?
Hi, I use Fabfilter Pro-Q as the last plugin on each track with automation. This helps me to: 1) An EQ at the end of processing (I often use flat eq) 2) Automate the volume. I do not automate the volume of the track, but the volume of this plugin. That way I can use the fader for fine adjustments.
Love your video’s. 58 year old widower looking for a purpose in retirement . Have no experience recording your videos are so helpful. Thanks!
love you for writing this. hope you're pretty smooth tonight
i hope you’re doing alright and those mixes are sounding ok:)) !!
man i love the lyrics, really grows on you after 6 episodes
💀💀😂😂
Your raw recording sounds better than my "MiX" lol
lmfao! Oh I know all to well!
Same T.T
😁😂
The first crucial step to getting a good Mix is getting a solid clean recording that already sounds good by itself
thanks graham, as a beginner, this 'how to mix a song from scratch' series is perfect for me to get confirmation on some methods, some extra methods i didn't know and a little of how do other pro's think about mixing. Thank you so much!
I can't wait to hear the final version of this song. It sounds way so great.
I agree
did we ever get the final product? I'm trying to find it
+Hardovski Me too!
Another vote for the final version!
You're too kind...no, really, lol.
Watching this series over 3 years later, using Studio One, and this tutorial is getting me through it, despite me not going to school for this. Thank you! 🙏

Thanks so much for this series. Its making my mixes sound so much more professional. Great song too. It's been fun to see it come to life.

Dude you are a beast, the song sounds better than stuff on the radio
Hey Graham,
I just wanted to say that your email newsletter is amazing!
It's like a mixing masterclass for free!!
Thank you for putting the time into this and other videos. I was pretty much at a road block for weeks where the first video in this series started. Connected ALL the dots🤘🏼

Wow! You have no idea how much you have helped me! Thank you man! I will pray for you and your family! Be blessed!
It would be great if this series ended with a mastering episode. Hope you have it. Thanks for the series 😍 Greeting from Vietnam 👌👌👌
Thank you so much for this crystal-clear, enlightening series on mixing. I watched all six videos twice, the second time taking several personal notes and even drawing some graphs so I won't ever get lost. Now it will be fun to actually know what I'm doing.
Great stuff Graham. I have learned a ton from you over the last couple of years. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Thanks man....

You have the best tutorials on UA-cam, thanks for all these.

Great series, thank you Graham. Learnt a lot about the hows and whys although I don't use Pro Tools (but installed Pro Tools First due to this series now :D).
Also thank you for the recording from scratch series - that one was great as well.
Loved the process! You made it easy to follow if you are a Pro Tools user.
Your music sounds goood! Especially after mixing and continued production.
Do you think you'd be able to make these raw tracks available to download so that people can mix on their own and compare to your mix? Sort of follow along to what you did but with our own personal taste.
I so badly wanted you to throw that thin guitar into the left speaker only ..
Andrew Lund me too.. LOL
wow! Nice tips! Amazing improvement! Thanks a lot!
Wow! Even the raw recording would sound great if you were to play it live with a band. But damn, that mix turned out so good!!!!
Thanks for everything dude !
so grateful
Good stuff gram! Thanks!
Ive enjoyed the series.. but also this track. Im hoping it makes it on SC soon! ha
thanks so much for this series!!!
Hi Graham - I've always wondered what your music reminds me of and then it came to me: do you know the Tarney-Spencer Band? You have a very similar sound! I know the band from the 70's and also have their LP "Run for your life" (1979) with the hit "No time to lose". Great rock music!
Thanks, for this mix serie. It's so helpfull :-)
Graham I need this track in my playlist!

Where is the final version of this song Grah? Put the link here for us bro.
I love your work!!!!!!
I think the reverse crash would also be good right after the thinned out vocals and guitars leading back into the full band. That would just kill.
Beautifull !
Are we gonna move onto the Mastering step? 🤔
Graham already made a video on mastering a while back
Graham has made several videos of all of these steps. I think it's a fair question given that it's a "from scratch" series"
J. M. Faupel agreed, that's why I asked. Maybe there's a new process he has, or he has other updated steps for us? It's a fair question for the series since I'm relatively new to his channel. I have my own way of mastering but I would love to see what he has for this series/segment 😊

Hey Graham great job love your work. Can you talk about stereo widening plugins?
Graham, I think Part (last) Mastering this song with free DAW & DAW Plugz only would end this perfectly;)
this is a great song!
so great
hey this song is great ! will you provide a download link for this song ?
Thank you so much
nice job
Amazing.
How can I listen the full and final version of this wonderful song mate?
Great series, thanks I listened to them all.
Curious what kind of speakers are you using?
Hello, I wanted to ask a question here, what do you do your mixing on? a Speaker or a HeadPhone?
cons and pros of each?
Thank you :)
U THE BEST!!!
I have a question:
Is it possible to move your home studio to the basement for a while and then move it back up to record drums? Plus, do you need wifi for any of the mixing or recording?
Did you have the automation in protools on or off Gram ???
Great refresher course for me - I'm used to just mixing with karaoke tracks and venturing into making my own music so it's rather foreign to me. Really awesome tips! I was wondering, where are these drum loops from? I've been looking all over for some good ones and have no clue what brands are good haha.
Don't worry about brands, find some loops and listen to them find what appeals to YOU
Graham, now Mastering please :)!!!!
Great event!
