I was required to read some of these books as well. RM aka Kim Namjoon, actually has a top 20 most recommended reading list, that can easily be found on line. This young man is so well read , that he actually has a personal , publicly available, top 20 reccomended reading list.
My geek brain Is happy thanks to you @lizruork7877, thanks.💜💜 Sometimes I feel small with their lyrics and their entire composition. @Alonsyyyy this Is a masterpiece but how they've worked since the beginning Is with concept trilogy albums...I hope it helps you deep dive into BTS.💜
Probably it's not unexpected for you at this point, but a lot of BTS's music is heavily conceptual. Blood Sweat and Tears is part of their album 'WINGS', which is based on the novel 'Demian' by Hermann Hesse. This book incorporates Carl Jung's psychological concepts to tell the story of Emil Sinclair, a character who faces the loss of innocence and discovers the evil that exists in the world and the evil part that exists within himself. It is a representation of what we all go through; the pain of growing up. But narrated in a very introspective and philosophical way. The quote recited by Namjoon (one of the members) is directly from the book, "He too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do". There is also a lot of visual representation of the duality between good and evil in the MV. I suggest you to watch an explanation, if you want to. It is really fascinating. I could say more, but it's quite complex and I think my English isn't good enough for that. Sorry for the long text, I hope it was understandable. Another fact: the German phrase at the end is by Friedrich Nietzsche and it says "One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star" Thanks for your reaction! 💜
Dang you got to it first....thanks for giving the explanation. I was going to tell him the same thing, well, not the exact, but most of it. I have noticed a lot of baby ARMY don't know the story behind B,S,&T. So, thank you for all of it. It was perfect.
That was Jin looking at the painting not RM. Also, RM no longer uses his name as an acronym for rap monster, he prefers Real Me. He dropped the rap monster reference a number of years ago.
@@Allonsyyyy This is from etonline in 2017: RM, you mentioned your name change. What does RM mean to you? RM: [Rap Monster] came from a song that I made from like, 2012, there was some phrase like Rap Monster, and I just, I thought it was so cool. But as I grow up, and as I came to America, I think it felt like too much. So I just abbreviated it to RM, and it could symbolize many things. It could have more spectrums to it. What does it mean to you right now? RM: I don't know, like, "Real Me" or something.
And lately these days as he is again starting to get closer to the him deep inside I have a feeling that he is going to start being more in tune with Kim Namjoon the poet and lyricist which are his roots.
When you said that theorizing was the stuff that gets you excited...You have found your people. We are here. BTS loves to make videos that generate masses of good theory.
2:50 that was not RM, that was Jin - who plays the main character in the fictional Bangtan Universe (BU). In a nutshell this song is about dealing with temptations and how we need to confront them to grow up/develop and become the true you (identity).
Once again you are on point with the interpretation. This song and mv is inspired by an old classic book called Damien by Hermann Hess about a young boy who is introduced to temptation both good and evil. There are several explanation videos for this mv and my favorite is by Don’t Worry I’m not Afraid. You will be amazed by how many different artist inspirations there are in the video.

The organ piece is from the book Damian. Yoongi (Suga) is the musician of the group and learned this piece and how to play it on the organ just for this video. That's actually him at the keyboards. The whole video is a masterpiece! There are videos of people explaining all of the symbolism. You are doing a great job! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
BTS really have a thing for cross referencing their own songs/videos/lyrics in all of their works. This is extremely noticeable in "Save me" and "I'm fine" lyrics, where they basically ask themselves questions in one and answer them in the other. + Most of their song music videos follow a storyline (also in a webtoon) which is TERRIBLY complicated and not fully deciphered as of yet (it keeps getting worse as time goes on rip) Anyway, check out RM's latest album Indigo and Jhope's too, Hope on the street. + The one looking at the painting (and kissing the statue, yeah) was actually Jin, but i know way too well that names are quite hard at first. tysm for these videos !!
Every small detail is important and has a meaning in bts music videos you will never find any one doing like them they have stories sometimes it's their own story or something similar to their feelings they have messages a lot of messages and it's so helpful for us to understand our feelings and how to deal with them and what we are capable of doing and what we should do On my behalf and on behalf of all ARMYs, they helped us a lot to overcome difficult circumstances that's why army are so protective when it's come to bts they show us so much love and so much encouragement 💜✨

Sounds like you're going to love the bts universe storyline in these music videos, theyre connected, they also have a book written on it, a webtoon graphic novel, and a videogame , and now just released a kdrama on the bts storyline!!💜
This song is definitely about temptation and the loss of innocence. It was inspired by the book Demian. I believe that the statue is supposed to represent Abraxas since it was referenced in their storyline. At the start, when Jin looks at the painting, there's a black door on the left and white door on the right. Later, he broke from the group - straying away from the innocence - and V (the one that had the cut wings) stayed with him showing him the statue. Then Jin kissing the statue would be him giving into the temptation resulting in everything changing and, at the end, the crack in Jin's face. There's much more to it obviously but it was my quick analysis 💜 An interesting fact is that SUGA (the one that was playing the organ) was supposed to cover Jin's eyes but Jin kept laughing so they changed with V. I'm not sure why it was supposed to be SUGA though and how it impacts the interpretation
I think it's because of the character Suga represents in Demian, I forgot the name of the character but it was actually a character that played organ and guided the main character to know more about Abraxas.
Yes, temptation is the main theme. Some of the clues are the apples, the green drink (probably absinthe), also the black and the white doors (choice between darkness and light). But also recognizing that one cannot both grow up into full/realized adulthood *and* remain completely pure and innocent, so we need to face/embrace some degree of darkness to grow, yet not indulge so much that we fall like Icarus when he forgot the warnings and flew too close to the sun (many references to this myth in the paintings, Jk “floating” with feathers around, V jumping/falling from the balcony, etc). It could also be interpreted as them starting to encounter the darker sides of fame and of their growing success/popularity and trying to navigate it without losing themselves to it. This is one of my favorite songs & MVs because it is SO rich in depth and symbolism rooted in literature, psychology, art and religion/mythology. The more you watch it, the more you discover.
Very nice reaction! I really enjoy people watching Blood Sweat & Tears for the first time. This video & lyrics are just a flat-out masterpiece. Deeper meanings in one song than most other songwriters will have in a lifetime. I actually recently purchased the book that this song is based on…will start reading it once I have some time off of work. So glad you enjoyed this one! Looking forward to more BTS from you! 💜
After hearing you say you like theories you should definitely check out the BTS storyline! there are so many fun connections in all their videos relating to the overall story! Loved your reaction and I hope to see more!!
This song was inspired by the book Damian by Hermann Hesse. The book follows a boy called Emil Sinclair on a journey of temptation and loss of innocence. The song explores these themes. There’s a lot of symbolism in the MV. At the start you noticed Jin was transfixed by the painting (it’s a famous painting but I can’t recall its name atm) and on either side of the painting there’s a door. On the left it’s a black door, on the right it’s a white door. Contrasting dark vs light, temptations vs innocence. Even the green liquid has meaning. One thing about BTS is EVERYTHING has meaning. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
0:23 I'm simply obsessed with this song and the WINGS era as a whole. Everything is simply magnificent, the choreography, the lyrics, the music, the costumes, I LOVE EVERYTHING!
they actually have a whole storyline in their mvs, songs and trailers. they also have a whole webtoon about that too! it would be cool if you checked their storyline!
You did awesome on the analysis. This video is epic. Definitely watch an explanation video. Mind blowing. Not one of my favorite songs by them but the video is too good.
Jimin got the “Master of Opening” title from this song. He also wrote part of the melody why it is catchy that brought a lot of new fans to BTS locally and internationally and the way he opened the song and danced to it...fans flocked thats also the reason why he was called the “Recruiting fairy”.
4:08 omg youre good at analyzing these! You're one of the few reactors that pick up on things really quickly. I wish you'd explore their storyline , the BU. I think youd actually carch on fast, when most others have to watch other other peoples theories. Please consider it? Thx , well done! 💜
BTS really are one of a kind. I listen to many groups but no one compares when it comes to artistry, lyricism and versatility. They are amazing. I love your reactions btw
The MV is even deeper than your initial reaction. This is why you have to watch it multiple times to see all the symbolism. The members are paired up in the opening scene with a hyung and an innocent maknae. Notice the black doorway and white doorway.
Thank you and love your channel name! The Astronaut by BTS's Jin goes crazy. It's more of an indie rock song with a beautiful music video. He's good friends with Coldplay so they did the instrumental
This song made me an ARMY 💜💜 just when I got to know it was making reference to Demian (Herman Hesse’s novel) and Nietzsche I couldn’t help myself. And the endless BTS rabbit hole started 😂 💜💜💜
I really appreciate how deep you dive in with the lyrics and the video. It also surprises me how much you actually catch and get right because I know these things would just fly over my head when I first watched their videos. I've been loving your k-pop reactions and can feel that you're genuinely curious. Because you're a metalhead, I'm recommending you check out the girl group, Dreamcatcher. I think you should start with their song Scream or Piri. I'll be following along on your journey!!
The symbolism in this one is insane! There are so many references to art and literature. The whole MV is about good vs evil, temptation, and the choices we make. Much of it is based on the book, "Demian" by Herman Hesse. It's also full of Easter eggs that relate to the BU (Bangtan Universe). Welcome to the BTS rabbithole! 💜 You may want to watch one of the explanation videos that are on UA-cam for this one. They will give you insight into the symbols and references. Thank you for your reactions to our special seven! 💜
That was a great first reaction to what is a song and story with so many layers. The rap line have done two songs, Ddaeng and Ugh with lots of cultural references. Dope and Go Go are full of social commentary. There are lots of others with meanings special to BTS and ARMY.
In many old song i think including this one there is a sort of story line tru the videos there is a video that shows all the mvs plus the right story line that tru the video
You are pretty close to the meaning.. however it is so much deeper. There is a great explanation video for this song.. you would be so impressed to see what all went into writing this so, to making references, to making the mv.. please do it 💜 much love to you. Thank you for your reaction.
You are good. You got this right the first time through. We learn quickly with BTS that there are always deeper meanings and tons of symbolism. Their lyrics are always intelligent and thought provoking (RM and Suga are voracious readers). Note: that was Jin looking at the painting. Please continue to enjoy BTS.
Would love more BTS, but if there’s one video I’d love to see you react to, it’s Amygdala by Agust D. It’s the third video in a trilogy of MVs that suga came up with the concept of himself. Daechwita, then Haegum, then Amygdala. It’s not really necessary to watch them all in order in my opinion, but you can of course if that’s what you want to do. Amygdala is just my favorite and it delves into a lot of suga’s personal experiences and the whole sound and vibe are very different from daechwita and haegum. Love all three, just in different ways and hope you’re able to get to around to reacting to it one day. Thanks for all the BTS content! 💜
that was JIn looking at the painting. It is about good and evil and which way to go as you grow up. but there is so much, you will need the dkdk explanation video to really understand.
They are unique all of them ... their solo albums are showing their creativity and versatility ... in spite of this, my favourite song is still Lie of Jimin ... classical and jazz musicians analysed it and were impressed by this song ... highly recomended to watch the lyrics video and live performance 🤷♀️
I know some people explained it in the comments but some videos explain it as well and give a good visual representation. If you like this video and the concept of it I recommend you watch 'Blood Sweat & Tears: What Does it All Mean?' By: Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid. It's a pretty quick and accurate run-through of what the MV is about. You will soon discover that BTS is a group of geniuses, outside-of-the-box thinkers, and teachers. All of which is just another big part of why I believe they are so loved. Hope you check it out. 💜💜
Also, all these brilliant explanation videos and documentaries about BTS tell you something about ARMY. BTS really appeals to intellectuals and educated thinkers, so ARMY is SO diverse and devoted to them. Their music is great on its own and can be enjoyed by anyone, but the fanatics love all the symbolism and artistry.
So FAKE LOVE and BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS are part of their BU (Bangtan Universe) it's a fictional storyline that is told throughout their albums. The first song is I NEED YOU (It has to be the original 19+ mv to set the full picture of the song) If you are really invested into continuing more with BTS and their story telling MVs then going down the BU rabbit hole is highly reccomended. You seem to be doing great at picking up the direction of the songs so I think you will enjoy piecing the puzzles together in the storyline. There is a lot to pick up on in each video and you can even make notes. There is a specific order in which they are meant to be watched and ARMY can give you the chronological order if you wish to go down the rabbit hole That wasn't RM at the beginning looking at the painting, it was Jin, he is the main character throughout the storyline.
Thanks for this. This MV has always been so synonymous with BTS - a must see if you are exploring BTS. Well! More songs? Off the top of my head? A gazillion more!! You've started out really well with the songs that you have for BTS. Am sure you already have a dearth of suggestions from ARMY - and from me in my previous replies to your BTS reactions - so I shall leave those for you to explore first. And I am happy to be with you on your journey of onward discovery of BTS as a group, and also their solo work thereafter whilst they complete their military. Cheers!
I’m really impressed with your level of observation, many reactors are so superficial. You nailed the meaning of the video. It’s actually based on the novel Demian by Herman Hesse, so there are lots more references. And, yes, there are theory and explanation videos for this one and many other BTS videos.
Thank you! I try my best! Of course I’m sure there will be a lot I miss but I always want to try and get the most out of what any artist is trying to express! 🙏
I loved your reaction! I think you would really love some of the theory videos that break down the many different art references to the book Demian, and also watch the short films released for the wings album that were almost like teasers and connect to this video!
You are good! And yes - the song is basefd on the book Damien, which others have said. The guy looking at the painting was Jin not RM. But you are right that it is about temptation and Jin was in a struggle to give in temptation (the green color smoke, liquid) and how they are all struggling aand want more.
An epic film that they created an entire set for. Practical effects are definitely stressed in this one. This is so ... breathtakingly beautiful & top tier in production. Based on the novel , Demian, by esoteric German authour, Hermann Hesse.

This song caught me in the net of BTS and there was no escaping... Blood sweat and tears is THE ONE...💜💜💜
BTS really are one of a kind. I listen to many groups but no one compares when it comes to artistry, lyricism and versatility. They are amazing. I love your reactions btw
I love your reaction. I can tell you are genuinely interested & love the fact that you get into the meaning of the lyrics pretty much straightaway :)
The MV is even deeper than your initial reaction. This is why you have to watch it multiple times to see all the symbolism. The members are paired up in the opening scene with a hyung and an innocent maknae. Notice the black doorway and white doorway.
bts are true ARTISTS, they deeply study their craft and are so talented and hardworking. The wings album is a masterpiece
I'm so glad we got you as a bts reactor! cant wait for more :)
And this is exactly why these boys are SO SPECIAL. 💜💜💜
it was jin looking into the painting... u are one of the only that gets their mv's without knowing the story... good on you
4:00 yes it's correct
3:58 you’re spot on everytime
I’m really happy you found BTS, we are still crazy with all of this BTS MV theories and stuff. We need you to help us analyze 😂💜
You never know what you're going to get with BTS and I mean that in the best Christmas morning opening the best gifts kind of way.
Their ARTISTRY!!! Beautiful!💜💜💜
I’m not a BTS fan to be honest but this song is so beautiful it’s ridiculous!! Amazing video too! 👏👏
I think you'd love watching the guide to bts and getting to know a bit about each of the members:)
Amazing reaction! You're crazy good at analysing these videos :) you'll be excited, there's a lot from BTS to analyse eheh
temptation,as a fellow army already pointed out,is absolutely the theme here. And yes,it IS about giving into it
You should react to the dance practices and live performances : )
I really appreciate how deep you dive in with the lyrics and the video. It also surprises me how much you actually catch and get right because I know these things would just fly over my head when I first watched their videos. I've been loving your k-pop reactions and can feel that you're genuinely curious.
Because you're a metalhead, I'm recommending you check out the girl group, Dreamcatcher. I think you should start with their song Scream or Piri. I'll be following along on your journey!!
This song is based on the book "Demian" that talks about the loss of innocence, the stage of ceasing to be a child
Welcome to the BU LOL The BTS Universe 🥳
You should DEFINITELY see the japanese version of this video, it's even better imo.
RM was obsessed with Hesse during this era, yes this one is based on Demian but he talks about others as well.
I can't help but laugh every time he calls Jin RM 😂 great reaction tho!
One of their best songs ❤
They are unique all of them ... their solo albums are showing their creativity and versatility ... in spite of this, my favourite song is still Lie of Jimin ... classical and jazz musicians analysed it and were impressed by this song ... highly recomended to watch the lyrics video and live performance 🤷♀️
this is one from the BU. ( you are not ready), but I feel the explanation video is really important unless you studied philosophy.
The first song is I NEED YOU (It has to be the original 19+ mv to set the full picture of the song)
If you are really invested into continuing more with BTS and their story telling MVs then going down the BU rabbit hole is highly reccomended.
You seem to be doing great at picking up the direction of the songs so I think you will enjoy piecing the puzzles together in the storyline. There is a lot to pick up on in each video and you can even make notes.
There is a specific order in which they are meant to be watched and ARMY can give you the chronological order if you wish to go down the rabbit hole
That wasn't RM at the beginning looking at the painting, it was Jin, he is the main character throughout the storyline.
Jin was looking at the painting that echoed a Heronymous Bosch series of paintings, The 9 Circles of Hell.
Finally!!! I hope you react to live performances next!
Love your reactions! Thank you. 💜
Thank you!
BTS has a thing with the black wings lmao
I loved your reaction! I think you would really love some of the theory videos that break down the many different art references to the book Demian, and also watch the short films released for the wings album that were almost like teasers and connect to this video!
BTS forever!!!
More BTS please! 💜
Please, please watch Zero O’clock stage mix. The vocal line is amazing.
wings is the name of their albums... your good
