In 5:9 it is not the maidens who speak, but the watchmen that intercepted her flight to find her lover and abused her. She is clutching her torn robe saying this, but answers and addresses her response to the maidens in the crowd. In the same manner Jesus answers the crowd when John's disciples come to ask him if he is the one who was to come.
In the beginning of the song, you see that she is made to wear a veil because of the disgrace, but that too will change.
