    The most chilled and genuine car review I've ever seen. Fair play 😎

  • @ElectricCarAustralia

    Great overall review. After 7,000 klms and 8 months ownership we think it is great value. We've achieved 70 kW DC charging so your battery condition or software might not have been optimal in your test. The ZS EV doesn't have charge scheduling, one feature which would be handy but not a show stopper. We also done some reviews on our channel you might like.

    It’s always a good laugh when reviewers show how the charging cable can be put under the boot space yet no one shows how practical that is when you have loaded the car up to go on holiday or shopping.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  3 роки тому +2

      Filling the boot with suitcases and then realising you need the cable out of its storage area... now who would do that.....

      @garynelson1039 3 роки тому +1

      Good point (I’ve done it), however they do have really handy holding nets on the side that I now tuck the cable in on journeys when the boot is full.

    I'm a ZS EV owner in the UK, theres no charging timers on the car unfortunatly, and occasionally the screen might freeze (though mine has only done it once in over a year of ownership) you can reset the screen by holding the home button until it restarts. The infotainment system is probably the worst part of the car, I just use Android auto instead. Charging is faster from a low state of charge, and it will actually charge up to a speed of 76kw in the right conditions. Never had an issue with the lane keep, maybe theres something wrong with the camera on the test car? Overall a fair review.

    The new 2022 facelift version is being advertised now €37000 but now comes with a 70kw (68kw usable) battery or 420Klm (wltp), thats just massive!, new front and rear lights and a few other bits and bobs (for the Exclusive spec). Local dealer said that they were expecting them in for February 2022. looking forward to taking a look at one. I'd be interested if you could get one early and give it a review :)

    I have one of these in England and for the money it is really good value but yes it does have some quirks. Charging speeds I have had 47kW on one brand of charger but on another brand I barely saw 35kW so I think it is more the charger than the car. On a 90kW charger I briefly saw 60-70kW. There are lots of other factors that will affect charge speed. I do my timed charging through my Zappi so get 4 hours overnight at 5p/kWh which works fine so not found a need to have timed charging through the car as well.

      there is soft touch on the top of the dash, don't get the rough comment though, sure there are hard plastics, but most modern cars have that. Its no worse than other cars I've owned.

    I really don’t like the Lane departure either. Had a BMW 2 series on loan recently and it actually pulled the wheel out of my hands. Not sure safety has been thought through. Good review of a car I would not have necessarily considered.

    Great review Nobby. If I'm right they use Nickel cadmium battery technology. Better than lithium-ion. Ni-cd suppose to have up to 20yr life span and are reliable. Only problem is, very expensive to dispose of due to high chemical content. How will that affect trade in value, recycling in future is anybody's guess. Lithium batteries have around 10yr +life cycle. Something we need to check when buying these cars is type and make up of battery. Lovely shots of Sir John Rogersons Quay there...

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  3 роки тому +1

      Some very valid points Gareth. 10 year cycle is something that many are probably thinking “that’ll be someone else’s problem”. There’ll be a recycling charge on batteries for motorists in this country anyway, wait til ya see.....

    • @bwanna43

      is Li-ion CATL batteries to my understanding. there is no way to have Ni-Cd batteries to reach 44 KWh in such pack density.

    It's not bad for the money but the range still isn't good enough as it sounds like good when you put it in km but in miles it works out as 160 miles and that's on a good day. Bob Flavin who has one on long term loan commented on the fact that there isn't a scheduler for when you charge it. I'd heard the issues with the charging too and the bugs which you'd hope over time will be sorted via software updates but whilst MG are getting there they've a bit to go yet.

    • @alschannel
      @alschannel 3 роки тому

      range is good enough for most people's daily commute, not many drive 160 miles in a day :) There are bugs in the software, though MG have released updates here in the UK, they should filter through to Ireland too. Still not great though, although you can use Android auto and apple car play instead. Plus you can't argue with the price for the amount of car that you get!

    There is a big problem here for MG, your buddy Bob Flavin had the same charging issue with 2 different MG Zs and with 3 different fast chargers. No point going to a fast charger if you are on a long journey and it's going to take 3 hours to charge because it won't go over 30 kW. Do MG have any comments on this ???????

      Your review was excellent and I like the look of the interior but I notice that you had a different car, so that's 3 cars with the problem. It's a a pity because I would be tempted but 30k + is reasonable but it has to be right in it's basics. Keep up the good work, loving the channel.

      @@NobbyOnCars Bob has at least 10 comments on his video with explanations from fellow EV/ZS drivers. If you plug the car in when it's about 10% charged, it should hit 50kW/h charge rates, as confirmed by many. The closer you get to 80% (and 100%), the slower the battery will charge, to protect the battery (this will happen with all EVs, not just MG). Bob plugged it in when it was 40% & 60% so the car must have decided it doesn't want 50kW/h to protect its battery.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  3 роки тому

      @@sp3edy14 Thanks for explaining but that makes little sense. We all know EVs slow down after 80% but this car had 60-80kms left in the battery and still wouldn't charge at 50. If it was a 100kW charging capability car, that would make some sense but not 50kW. Seems odd! Multiple times too, not just when the battery wasn't warm enough or range was too high etc etc
