  • Our new permit is APPROVED for our dream pole barn workshop and it's time to break ground! We rented an excavator, the biggest machine we've ever operated on the property, to help clear trees to make room for our new building. This is just the beginning!

    We apologize for a lack of clarity for the some the questions asked in last weeks video. This video was actually pretty hectic to film and we were trying to maximize our time using the expensive rental excavator. Next week we will explain a bit more about what's going on. The short version is, our permit was approved to start work on the site in the newly proposed area. We are still waiting on final approval of the building plans as last minute they requested engineered documents for the trusses we are using. This was unexpected as we were intially told we didn't need engineered drawings. Regardless, this week was a big win!

    Congrats on the permit. And you can definitely its moving along.maybe do a video on the plans. I don’t you said the basic plane was a gravel base with the poles and roof. And I believe😊 you said a garage space. And as money comes available, start adding to it, like a concrete pad. A video on yourvision for it, dimensions, number of floors or attic, etc.

    Pro tip, keep the blade in the "front" of the tractor when digging or pulling, put the blade in the "back" if you're pushing. Well done D&M!!

    Looks like so much fun. Where I live in New York, I have no use for a tractor or room for a sawmill. Love the transformation of your property. And to have a fantastic supporting wife, you are the luckiest man in the world. At least I’m a dad, so I have that on you. That’ll be the greatest moment of your lives.

    I know you had to move the location and it’s costing more money, but ultimately having the structure behind the house will appreciate your property value more than having it in front. I truly enjoy seeing y’all forge ahead building your life together.

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  4 місяці тому

      One of the reasons we wanted it up front was a higher appreciation actually. In the back it will just be a pole barn, but where we had it before and the orientation of it would've made it a 4 car garage. Probably doesn't make a massive difference, but I think it would've been more valuable the other way.

    • @chashint1
      @chashint1 4 місяці тому

      @@Woodbrew you always call it a pole barn but in my head it’s going to be a shop. I certainly see your point about it could also be called a 4 car garage if it was up front. Y’all do a good job making lemonade every time a bushel of lemons gets dumped on you. Looking forward to seeing your continuing progress.

    It's a good thing you're intimidated by the bigger excavator. That means you won't get over-confident and/or get careless with it. Respect the power of the machine (And the strength of the trees!). This coming from a former heavy equipment operator.
    You're approaching these new-to-you tasks in a smart way. Well done kid!

Not sure the WG24 is the tool for the task at hand. Thanks!

    Lot's of 2x4's out of those trees. How long does it take to dry?

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  4 місяці тому

      2x6s and 1x10 siding actually😁 We plan on milling it and stacking it to dry under the pole barn roof for 6 months or so depending on how long it takes us to actually mill it. It doesn't have to be dry to use it though. It can dry in place like the container.

    Do you guys plant any trees? We’ve seen a lot come down on this channel!

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  4 місяці тому

      We only remove trees for specific reasons. In this case to build a barn. All the trees will be turned into lumber as well. We live in the pine tree Mecca and trust me when I say we have plenty of pine trees. They’ve modified them so much that they are fully mature in just 30-40 years. I’ve seen trees clear cut, replanted, and clear cut again in my lifetime for paper use. It’s a massive heavily regulated and sustainable industry where we live.
