like others have said, very beautiful and artfully done, all while being informative. I felt like I was shrunk down and put inside my watch!

amazing I've always understood a watch movement but never has it been presented so clearly!

Great! When I first learned about the works of movements this was nonexistent. So it took time... This video should make this understanding a breeze. Fantastic job!

The mainspring causes the whole thing.. and all that stored energy is transferred to the balance wheel. The pallet fork's jewels in its arms are angled in such a way that the escapement wheel (which is directly driven via gears by the spring) actually launches the fork to one side, driving the balance wheel. This is how it keeps its momentum: half an oscillation is driven by the spring via the escapement wheel/pallet fork, and the other half is driven by it's own hairspring.

In automatic watches, there's a rotor that oscillates with the movement of the watch, be it from the movement of the wearer's arm, or it being manually shaken. When the rotor oscillates, the movement winds the spring and keeps it constantly wounded. In watches that are purely mechanical with no rotor, the spring must be wound manually by the owner through the crown. When the power reserve is out (the spring has run out of energy) it has to be wound up again.

Thank you very much for this video you have done a fantastic job of showing me clearly what I have just started self studying. I have subscribed and look forward to watching your other videos.

it has some sort of pendulum, that provides the energy for it to move, if you leave the watch without moving, i'd suppose it would just stop after a while

What is difference between the arrangement of wheels in watch with sub second hand and watch with centre second?

The power that keeps the balance wheel moving comes from the main spring.

quase perfeito, não fosse o movimento do balanço ser contrário da espiral.
mas, porém parabéns, grande exemplificação, parabéns!...

You seem to know one or 2 things. I understand what you are saying but there is no gear between the tourbillon and the mainspring. The only link between the tourbillon and the movement is the escapement wheel and the escapement fork, So how does the escapement wheel transfer energy to the tourbillon? i'm guessing the impact force of the escapement wheel on the fork is the force that keeps the tourbillon spinning. (like Jules Audemars explanation i just found on youtube)

How is it possible that the balance wheel keeps oscillating? The spring would run out of energy at some time (i'm not saying this is impossible, i just can't out why the tourbillon keeps spinning) Someone explain this please.

One question. The balance wheel push the fork or the fork pushes the balance wheel ?

How did you create the animation of the spring ??
with which software did u make it ? thx

    • @MrHydyr
      @MrHydyr 6 років тому +1

any software, 3ds max is ok. you can see the break in the geometry, so it's not extremely accurate. thus not so difficult to make. Yet, have to admit, it's an outstanding and tedious job to be done!

Hi, I think you are mistaking the balance for a tourbillon, they are two different things. The watch in the animation does not have a tourbillon. If you do mean the balance wheel, then it receives it's impulse from the escape wheel acting upon the impulse face of the pallets which causes the notch in the fork to strike the impulse pin on the roller which is attached to the balance staff.

still doesn't clearly explain how the escape wheel, transfers the energy through the fork and jewels to the balance wheel to keep the hair spring oscillating.

      what?
its the power og the coil, trnsfers the energy,
the fork just release it , left right left right...etccc... if its too slow watch will get late, but better then go faster cause it wil casue more wear on the mechanism...
while relese energy have a little help from the fork movement, otherwise would stop

stop calling it the tourbillon the tourbillon is something else. the flywheel keeps running because a little bit of the main spring's energy got transferred to it via the oscilatting fork and its energy is got directly from the escapment teeth which are attached to a set of gears via an axis pin.
