Calzaghe is right up there with the best fighters of the late 90's to early 2,000's, his totally flawless career record tells you how good Joe was. Unfortunately for him, I don't think he got the recognition he deserves. He was a top quality boxer and a proper nice bloke as well.
@greenfields1221 you've totally missed the point I said calzaghe wouldn't rematch Reid which is facts and wouldn't defend against Froch which is facts I never went into careers and common opponents as I'm sure your aware that he beat him so he would beat him obviously wouldn't determine the outcome of any fight unless you're a clueless casual no offence

But froch not a credible challenger?
@greenfields1221 I don't mean former world champions on his record,,, I mean he only held the wbo for his 1st 18 or so world title fights and also he only won ring magazine belt at light heavyweight not a wbc wba ibf or even a wbo
Robin Reid was the fighter who figured out Cazaghi, I honestly think this is Calzaghi's greatest performance because he beat the one guy who figured him out. No-one else got close to stopping Joe Calzaghi.
One of Calzaghe's greatest and most underrated tests... Still deserves so much more adoration for the fight he brought and the fight he forced from Calzaghe.

That was a great fight. I think many of Calzaghe's punches do more damage than they look like they're doing; Reid's face was evidence of that. Reid hits hard, but Calzaghe could take whatever was thrown at him.
I agree. The announcers kept talking about Calzaghe's punches hitting gloves, but I saw a lot of them getting through. They always pointed out when Reid landed a big one, but always seemed to miss it when Joe got one in. Looking at Reid's face, you can't deny Joe did some damage over the course of the fight.
Joe was the full package and real hall of famer. He suffered a bit through his career with injury, but always come them. As an amature Joe won 3 ABA titles at 3 different weights in successive years. Which had never been acheived before or since. He had amazing hand speed, stamina and boxing brain. Joe Calzaghe should in my opinion get a knighthood! Ref was way too lenient on Reid he should've penalized him earlier and continued to do so the more he used dirty tactics. Reid did that because of his frustration due to Joes speed mostly, plus Joe outwitted Reid over all and that caused him to have control of the fight. in spite of all that Reid dug down deep and turned it into a slug fest and picked up the pace and it become a brawl and the fans got what they wanted a great fight.
I think it helped him ultimately, he had to learn to adapt when he came up against someone capable of actually challenging him, someone who actually belonged in the same ring, which he hadn't had to that point apart from Eubank.
Probably one of calzaghe's hardest fights Reid looked fit and ripped in this fight if this fight was in this era it would of sold out Wembley or the millennium stadium easy calzaghe always found a way to win in fairness bernard Hopkins cheated in that fight vs Calzaghe he tried every trick in the book to win but joe deserved the win and also Roy jones jr was way past his best in his fight vs Calzaghe he looked a shell of himself Roy who is one of the greatest fighters of all time especially in his prime he was just to good great fighters these were ❤

I couldn't give it to Reid, he didn't win enough rounds though I would give him a bare minimum of three. There were probably a couple of drawn rounds but Calzaghe was a decisive winner of more than Reid who went to sleep a bit in the sixth and seventh immediately after having a strong fifth. When I say went to sleep, Reid barely threw a punch in those rounds.
The crowd were mostly Robins. They 'ooed and aaed' when he landed the rights, but were mainly silent when Calzaghe had success. All said and done. - a great tussle between two great Brits.

thanks for your vital contribution champ. Maybe Brian Hughes should have employed you in his corner. Rob was a bronze medal in 1992 Olympics and a former world champion, not bad for someone who can't box.
This was actually tactically one of Joe's worst performances. Some seem to think Reid figured out Joe. In reality Reid didn't do anything special here. Joe kept getting drawn in and suckered with that overhand right over and over all night. It was the only good punch Reid was landing. Joe's trademark is being able to adjust during the fight, but here he failed to do that.

Great fight. They punched it out even in the 12th round. However; Robin Reid threw some very dirty punches. ( 1.) Robin Reid punched the balls of Joe Calzaghe, he did this more then one time.
I think Calzaghe was shocked just how good Reid was. Some fantastic right hands by Reid. I gave rounds 5 and 6 to Reid, the last round equal and the other nine rounds to Calzaghe. Terrible use of the head by Reid and some low blows that weren't picked up on. Reids face at the end sums it up really he lost.
This fight was a joke. Reid is a dirty fighter and this contest deserved a disqualification for so many reasons. Repeated headbutts, low blows, punches after bell, after ref said stop. So many warnings that should have been points taken.
Had Calzaghe winning by 2 points with a couple of drawn rounds and the point deduction for Reid. No way did Reid win and certainly not by 9 rounds to 3 like the British Judge scored it.

Reid landed more punches. Seems absurd Calzaghe ever won this.
