Well done on reading another Ballard! Starting with Crash was always going to be a tough one... Your 'top 10' vote has got me thinking. At a first glance I picked 27 books (with no author repeats!), and I didn't include a PKD on my longlist, which is starting to make me doubt if I am even actually a SF fan at all :( It is going to be tough to narrow it down so don't close your survey any time soon please!
Sod it, I'm just going to submit. Just look at what you have made me leave out!: John Wyndham The Chrysalids Jules Verne 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Orson Scott Card Speaker for the Dead Mary Shelley Frankenstein H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds Alfred Bester The Stars My Destination Pierre Boulle Planet of the Apes Thomas M. Disch The Genocides Cormac McCarthy The Road Harlan Ellison Approaching Oblivion Tom McCarthy Remainder J. G. Ballard The Terminal Beach Poul Anderson Brain Wave Diamond Dogs Alastair Reynolds PKD, Herbert, Vonnegut and Clarke, barely even got a look - comparatively. Horrible experience pairing that down!
@lissavanhouten6628 I can imagine they might appeal to a younger reader. I liked her writing, but just overdosed a bit reading it in one hit. Cheers Lissa, thanks for watching 👀!
The Asimov book sounds very cool, but I've only read his history books. I've heard his fiction is usually short on characterization as is Clarke, whom I have read. How about the characters in this Asimov story? I read NEUROMANCER in the 90's and was not impressed, feeling it was trying to hard to be cyber-Kerouac. Nice video as I'm always up for book recommendations!
I just bought a roll of 30 micron plastic film from a packaging supplier, so it's not a specialist book-care product. I just cut it to size and fold as necessary, takes a couple of minutes per book. Does the job quite nicely. Way cheaper than buying the real thing, as it were. Cost me about £35 for a big roll, it last me ages. Thanks for watching 👀!
12 and a half books in a month? What are you doing in your spare time? 😂 I can hardly read 3 a month… Great that you loved Neuromancer, an absolute favorite of mine, and now I‘m intrigued to see why Hopeland managed to outstrip this classic…
Audiobooks are the secret weapon! And short books. Hopeland couldn't be more different to Neuromancer, impossible to compare them really. Cheers Michael, thanks for watching 👀!
You really want Gibson's surname to be Golding don't you 😂 Good to see you rated Neuromancer so highly though. I think I'm going to read the rest of the Sprawl at some point, just got to get the 3rd one.
I found an ebook of the Caves of Steel (and two short stories) that are the original pulp magazine fix ups and reprints...that include the original illustrations. I'll be buying them later, preferably after the silly season is over. 🙄. The illustrations are not great...but obviously i want them for nostalgia value. 🐶🤩
ha. this might be the third video where i hear you refer to him as william GOLDING. i actually don't think i've heard you say william gibson. big lord of the flies fan?
I know! And I didn't even notice it myself this time. Perhaps listening to Neuromancer on audiobook injected a mind virus into my brain. Thanks for watching 👀!
So, other cyberpunk you might like: Simulations edited by Karie Jacobson, which is a series of VR shorts which contains a classic called Dogfight. Eclipse Phase, edited by Jaym Gates, which is more transhumanism though. The Ghost in the Shell Five more Short Stories by Vertical publishing Escapology by Ren Warom which was magnificent cyberpunk. Unfortunately it has a very boring sequel. Glow and Afterglow by Tim Jordan are pretty high octane reads. Aside: Mistake Not My Current State Of Joshing Gentle Peevishness For The Awesome And Terrible Majesty Of The Towering Seas Of Ire That Are Themselves The Mere Milquetoast Shallows Fringing My Vast Oceans Of Wrath,
You might like Daniel Keys Moran...where the Cyberpunk is just a facet of the Time War, the Great Wheel of Time, and the Gods of the Zaradin church. The greatest "Dancers" are Trent the Uncatchable, who might have been god, and Denise Castanavares, Regent of Earth after the War against the Sleem, and the Mother of the House of November. Try Emerald Eyes. If you like it, the Long Run is Awesome! ❤
Quite a month!
Hopeland was not on my radar; I’ll be on the lookout for it now. Thanks 👍

@TheChemistrystudent it is very difficult! Well done, and thank you.
Glad you liked Neuromancer! It was one of my top 10 picks in that survey of yours.
Ooh lovely thank you. And thanks for watching 👀!
Nice to see Asimov on your read list and the favorable rating. I first read “Caves” 56-56 years ago when I was 13-14. It really hooked me on Sci-fi.
Hi Steve, yeah Asimov was among my earliest sf reads in the early 80s, a little after you from the sound of it! 😀. Thanks for watching 👀!
I loved the Zenna Henderson books when I was a teenager.

Hello. The Caves of Steel is a quick read , doesn't ask much of the reader, holds up pretty well for its age. Give it a go. Thanks for watching 👀!
if you don't mind, where do you buy your mylar book jackets?

Did I say Golding again!!?? Bugger. Must be my schooling come.back to haunt me, I did Lord of the Flies back then. Sigh. Thanks for watching 👀!
@@SciFiScavenger Read Lord of the Flies in school as well. Funny, I don't remember Case and Molly running around with Ralph and Piggy...😂
@@luiznogueira1579 I'm the Dread Pirate Piggy! No prisoners! 😳😂🤣🐶

William Golding?
Apparently Gibson is a big fan of Lord of the Flies, he changed his surname. Or I just keep saying Gibson wrong...
William Goldings „Necromancer“ … 😂

I have Escapology on my shelves I think. Synners, Headlong and Shockwave Rider are others I'd like to read. Cheers Montie, thanks for watching 👀!
What do you mean by you listen to audiobooks at 1 and a half speed? Does the narrator sound like they've been inhaling helium??
No! 😀 most of em read very slowly, 1.5x is usually fine, sometimes 1.7 or 1.8! Cheers Simon, thanks for watching 👀!
@@SciFiScavenger I had no idea...😮. So maybe Audiobooks are not the slog I feared...🤔🧐
Hopeland is worth it if only for the brilliant takedown of the total hype/disaster that is blockchain.
Yes, that was pretty funny. Thanks for watching 👀!
