Great Video, I know it been here for awhile. But I still have my original Hornet from the 80’s. Just new tires and body and its still running all these years later. It’s still one of my go to cars for fun, also have my original Grasshopper that’s been shelved for now. These are great little cars to build and have simplistic fun with. 540 motor and a 2S lipo, run times over an hour, great memories
Such a great simple design but I remember I learned a lot building this kit as a young child and gained a great sense of achievement when it was completed. Great video, brought back many happy memories, thanks!
nick beech Thanks for your kind words 👍🏻 It’s a true classic and it’s so much more than the sum of its parts. It’s a must have for the collection. I’ll be getting myself one later this year.
Bought one of these to see me through lockdown 3. Watched the whole series and I'm pleased to see you had the same gear left over that I had! What's that all about?
I think I should win ‘cos I’m the tallest 😬 Those back tyres were fab for about 2 races, then the nobbles wore off and it was spin central. This beast would be a great candidate for a steaming gyro being put in. No more mechanical speed controllers or battery boxes for the receiver! I know it would be bonkers, but a brushless/3s lipo set up would be a right blast. It might kill a few old grannies - but, Hey - you’ve got to laugh.
BTW, I think there is a distinct improvement in this video. More close-ups, voice-overs and detail. Still can’t stand the music and not a big fan of the fast forward (it makes my brain hurt), but deffo a big step in the right direction. Thanks and well done.
Alan Morris Thanks 👍🏻 I’m reviewing the viewer stats for this video closely as I’m interested to see if the changes in this video are worth the investment and to see if people will watch longer more detailed videos. I’m on the fence myself currently but my instincts say no. Unfortunately the editing is twice that of a previous videos so it’s an expensive overhead increase. Only time will tell. 👍🏻
Are there any must do upgrades for this. The wife and i just got the Brat and the Hornet for christmas and are super excited to start our RC car journey
Rc Kicks or anyone reading this, what is the plastic cog for that is placed on the bench at 5.08 on the video? I've just started building a Hornet myself (first car) and have this left over. Thought I'd missed it from somewhere and was getting concerned. Thanks, Dale.
Roger Burgess I think I would if it was going to be mine. It’s not very adventurous but still. I do hope someone pics a more interesting colour that I wouldn’t for me to paint.
hi is there any chance you could give me the size of those rear tiers .the reason for this is i have an old Tyco jet hopper and the rear tires have dry rot so looking for replacements was wondering if these might fit any help appreciated
Ok see now I'm way to late great little car my son and I built one together when he was 9 and now he is 41 wow time Flys but we still today run rc cars together along with my other son and son-in-law

My first rc was the hornet in the 80s! A great first rc for any kid or kid at heart❤️
It’s a fantastic kit for sure 👍🏻
Nice! I always liked the look of a bright red hornet!
Shen RC Yep I think a red could look sharp 👍🏻
That new tyre smell !! Oh memories, had the pleasure of that smell a few months ago after waiting to build a Frog.
Had this car and its brother the grasshopper. Both great beaters. Miss the good old days.
The grasshopper and hornet are true RC classics
@@RCKickschannel and I'm truly old. Thanks for the reply. Cheers.
Silver with lime green accents or purple and lime green! Amazing video by the way, always fun to watch!
You just can’t beat a new build tamiya out of the box. I love the smell of the tyre’s as well. Such great happy memories 👍👍👍
Excellent mate... No one else is doing this.
kasparov9 Thanks for your kind words. 👍🏻 I’m have loads of fun.
Tamiya Candy lime green - awsome colour either on body, wheels or both !!
Red over Light Grey.
Loved the trip down memory lane. I had a Hornet in the 80's with a Parma Ultra-stock 540, man that buggy ripped!!

Alan Morris HHEHEHE great comment 🤟🏼
Great video! Half the fun of these Tamiya kits is building them. At least the winner gets to see it built.

Bearings is a good startfor them. The Brat body takes a while and has way more detail that you expect.
Another great vid. Thank you.
Tremendous video! Cracking car!
Looking good that's a great chassis tons of fun👍😀
Would look good in white! Great build!
Some nice detail. Always a pleasure!

Did you fit the hop up ball bearings? Or just use what was supplied with the kit?
Bearings :)
@ any good links for hop up parts pls?
Not much needed for a Hornet. A set of bearings and you are set
Love the hornet, nice vid.
I’d have to stick to the original colour scheme I think. Great vid.
Roger Burgess I think I would if it was going to be mine. It’s not very adventurous but still. I do hope someone pics a more interesting colour that I wouldn’t for me to paint.
Gulf Racing light blue and orange was my immediate thought until nostalgia crept in.
