Must buy for me. I love 7WD and LOTR. Can't wait to play with my daughter who also loves those things so this will be a blast! Slightly simplifying the game is perfectly fine. Points and counting how many resources your opponent has when buying said resource was always a bit annoying in the original so this might have a better flow to it.
So it’s basically 7 Wonders Duel without the point victory, but with the senate victory from Agora. You just don’t get any benefits from the map board like you do with the senate board. Some small economy adjustments, but no mechanical changes. The biggest change I see is that the wonders are now public instead of drafted.
For those wondering like I was, the cards are larger, 54x80 vs 46x68. There are less too, 69 vs 73. Can anyone speak on the card quality? I like the original game, but for some reason the card size and quality just really bothered me.
I'm also annoyed about the nonstandard card size but I just finished sleeving mine with Catan size sleeves and it's good. Also, they mentioned how abused their copy is already - should be a testament to the card quality
We’ve played twice now. When I bought the game I was not going to sleeve the cards. After handling them, yea, they are getting sleeved. Far too thin for my liking.
@@mrsteve4569 Thanks, mrsteve. Recently I've taken to sleeving my games before I play them and I was considering not with this game because I don't have sleeves that size, but now I'll wait... I so wish publishers would spend the little extra for good card quality.
Oh that's good to know. I (Chris) wish I had caught that, but I only have one person to blame for that blunder. And that is Tom. It's Tom's fault :) Thanks for watching. I'll be more cautious with my bonuses next time!
Thanks for the reply. Now knowing where the wizard card was, you may have been doomed regardless. It was awesome to see this game come right down to the end though!
Am I the only one who finds this underwhelming? It's also not that thematic. And it seems the resources are less tight and the money strategy is gone. Or did they just play wrong? The wonders with drafting and the importance of the turnovers/extra turns was also a major part that made "7 Wonders Duel" good. I don't see it in this version.
Same here. I really want to like it, but I feel everything is too accesible, money is easy to get and you can pretty much buy any card with it. I may be missing something.
Maybe u didn’t watch the whole video. Thematic is subjective, but I think they implemented well enough for a duel game. The turnovers/extra turns are now on the “science” bonuses, blue track, and the stronghold cards. And money is tight, although maybe not as punishing as 7WD, but players will still find themselves discarding for money. The only thing I can see is that military might be the dominant strategy here.
@@wh3elson It is my understanding that in Duel for Middle Earth each missing resource costs 1 coin without exceptions. In 7WD the cost per missing resource is 2 coins + as many of that resource symbols your opponent has. In this way the cost or buying something you do not have resources for was more punishing in 7WD.
It is definitely is a simplification, namely to the economy/mathy-ness of 7WD, lack of guilds, and the tug-of-war military track now being a race to 14-symbols track. Can see how some might prefer 7WD, although personally I like this more because my least favorite aspect of 7WD was having to constantly calculate and track how much each resource cost each player (which is why I usually stuck to playing it on BGA). There are several alliance tokens that provide extra turns as well as one spot on the ring track, and whenever you build a landmark it essentially flips turn order, so I feel like that’s pretty similar than in 7WD.
Hmmm, more a pair of dudes who don't know the game bumbling their way through without making the effort to learn the game first than a playthrough. Sub-par for a professional channel.
I helps me learn the game because they're better at games than me so if they're going to ask a question/look something up, I probably was going to as well.
44:13 They forgot that for playing a blue card, an additional unit was supposed to be placed in any region. This was actually not a loss just yet.
The 3 cards for each chapter start the discard pile, they could be seen again if you have the ability to search the discard pile!
If the yellow cards don’t help with income and income is purely one coin per age that’s a major difference from duel.
"Tell me, where is Gandalf? For I much desire to speak with him."
- Tom Vasel 2024.
The 3 unused cards in each chapter are also discarded.
Easily missed rule that also makes the token far more powerful.

14:13 As a Canadian, "they're a little bit slow, eh?" absolutely killed me. I have no qualms with being compared to an ent! 😅
Played this for the first time today. It's really good. The main board, the ring track and the ease dealing with the money is pretty huge.

You should have included the 3 discarded cards from setting up each chapter
Yeah I agree with Tom... this may kill 7WD for me... so much for all of the deluxifying
Until this comes with expansions. 7WD + pantheon/civ is great!

Thanks for the live play
7 Wonders Duel Revised
Chris didn't use his blue ability on his last turn
He could have taken out gray havens and stayed alive another few turns!

Was Tom supposed to pay a gold for the card he takes at 22:00 ?
Great game!
More - Door and Jangalf... The audacity.
Gandalf is pronounced like GIF
Glad I pronounced it correctly in the video, then 😉

@@TheRASDEL83what is the difference between that and regular 7WD? lol u can buy anything with money as well, and money is quite easy to gain too

This whole series is about learning a game live rather than presenting it.
This is cool but original is better
Would like to own both tho
Nah. This one blows 7WD without expansions out the water
Agreed, this one’s fantastic
Can't you play the game after you know the rules
Some streamers just like to waste viewer's time
