    I've broken three forestays and one upper shroud at sea, but I've never pulled a chainplate! I'm impressed by your repair at sea. Good job skipper.

    there is an advantage to having a wooden masted boat where it goes through the deck and onto the keel. One advantage is it is almost self supporting, and it takes a lot of stress off the stays and chain plates. I have a 38 Seafarer Javelin. 1961 built in Amsterdam. Some of the hull is 2 inch thick glass. It weighs nearly 16000 lbs. Wood mast as mentioned to keel. Enormous wooden boom with low aspect sails to keep it flatter under heavy winds. A boat designed by Bill Tripp, and none of his boats have been known to have lost a rig. Good sailing, it's always the things we don't check, that fail us.

    This video popped up in my recommended videos, instead of watching it, I first i went back watched all of your videos from the start today, in spite of the fact that I don't speak dutch!
    Your sense of humor made them enjoyable and your boat is really nice, but I couldn't help thinking that if you added some English translations that your videos appeal would be broader and that your audience would grow, you seem to have come to the same conclusion.
    I was subscriber 75 and now you have 91, if you stick with this format i think you will have 1000 before the end of May. Regards, Dave

    What, exactly, is a 'chainplate'?

    • @johnlord7854
      @johnlord7854 6 років тому

      Hi, They are steel plates, bolted to the hull. The wire stays are attached to them at one end, and to the mast at the other. The stays support the mast.
      If the Chain plate had completely come away from the hull, the whole rig would have come down. Very serious, and they did very well to repair it on the fly.

    No windvane in your boat? Why?

    • @BolleSailing
      @BolleSailing  7 років тому

      I wish we had one. A vane on a double ender with a tiller rudder (Colin Archer style) isn't easy. It's a 61 year old boat...

      Still there are feasible solutions. look here: www.windpilot.com/n/wind/en/foto/heck/colinarch

    chain plates need to be serviced / replaced , at regular intervals

    • @BolleSailing
      @BolleSailing  6 років тому

      I've never seen anyone cutting an undamaged, good looking chainplaint out of a metal (aluminium in my case but steel same same) boat, just to service / replace them. Nevertheless, you could be on to something and start a new trend.

  • @timlamarre8680
    @timlamarre8680 6 років тому

    I really like your boat. It is not clear to me what happened to your chainplate. Did it break in the middle? Are your repair straps connected to the remains of the plate? Are your plates internal? How old are they?

    • @BolleSailing
      @BolleSailing  6 років тому

      The chainplates (deck fittings) are made out of 3/4inch thick aluminium flatbar. They go trough the aluminium deck and are welded to a substructure under deck. Obviously they are welded to the deck as well, to make it watertight and pretty. One chainplate broke loose from its substructure and was just holding on to the allready cracking welds of the deck. Please watch ua-cam.com/video/oiuRZQh708Q/v-deo.html for the repairs and some more explanation.

    • @timlamarre8680
      @timlamarre8680 6 років тому

      Thank you for responding. It seems odd that the plate was not secured by a series of bolts below the deck.

    Almost every video I have watched of people sailing ths oceans, there has been some sort of mishap. Somd even resulting in having to cut short their journey, or finding so port for repairs to needing rescued. Does not look like relaxing fun to me.

    • @BolleSailing

      Nee, het is geen Lemsteraak. Toch net een wat andere bodem. Ben wel nieuwsgierig of er mensen zijn die met bijv. een Lemsteraak over zijn gestoken. Hier een link naar wat meer info over Bolle, de boot - bolle56.nl/de-boot/

    The Captain is not careful and works with metal tools around electrical circuits without
    properly protecting them.
    Metal aluminium shavings from drilling may cause future electrical/electronics failures.
    Take care.

      Thank you Blugrasssful for your reply. What kind of music would you like to hear on our video's?

    • @blugrasssful
      @blugrasssful 7 років тому

      I like the natural sounds or ambient sounds. The mechanics involved. The technical parts that a wishful sailor like me like to hear and see. The wind ,water commentary from you folks that help create the pictures you take so well. Music is fine and I watch many sailing vid's and whish I could be there but sometimes the music's far to heavy for the whole 15 or 20 minutes. Don't worry about me. It's your adventure and I'm just happy to chill in the evening and watch them. Keep up the great work and be safe. Thanks.
