Last week I paid for my Denoise, Sharpen, Gigapixel subscribtion update fees. I found that Photo AI was a free download to me. After download, I ran a test very similar to what you have done in this video. My results were very similar, my conclusion is that Denoise provided a better less crunchy result than photo AI. After all if you are pixel peeping that is what you are comparing.

Thank you for the video! Lately I’ve found myself using only Photo AI pretty much most of the time. It’s been getting better and better. When I need a bit more control, I may dip into the others. And I know Photo AI is just going to get better and better. It’s still lacking a few controls that we really need.

You can now send raw images to Photo Ai from Lightroom classic by going to File/plug-in Extras/Process with Topaz Photo AI. Works seamlessly and returns a processed raw image back to LR for more processing. Big time saver.

    Dear Anthony,
I am a loyal follower of your channel and have already learned a lot from you.
The method of noise reduction and sharpening that you show in this video use a variant on. The first step, after basic adjustments, is noise reduction in Topaz Denoise AI. The next step is selective sharpening in Photoshop where I apply high pass sharpening. I am very satisfied with this method and it gives me control over the degree of sharpening without introducing noise again.
Keep up the good work .
    Djoser photography.

Thank you! I’m happy that you used a bird to compare Photo AI and Denoise AI. I did the same comparison with my own pictures of birds. At my side, I still use Denoise over Photo AI because after comparison, photo AI is always making the image (for me) more oil painting than Denoise. Especially at the peak and for the eye. The sharpening in Denoise is also softer. In Photo AI, even at low, the sharpening is too much 😢
I still cannot move from Denoise AI to Photo AI… Photo AI is still not at the level of Denoise (again for me). The cons are that fact that Denoise is no more supported and there are some artefacts in the export of the raw images (some meta are deleted, the windows explorer thumbnail is destroyed, there is no direct raw import from Lightroom classic etc…) I discussed all these problems with Topaz support and they advised me to wait… so that’s what I’m gonna do 😅
    Thank you again

Thank you Anthony for all your great videos, I'm a big fan and I have a suggestion, you always prefer to make a comparison with Auto settings ( Apple to Apple as you say :) ) which is a great method, But I'd like to suggest that you make a comparison for any two apps with a manual setting for each and try to get the best you can from each one, because Auto is not always the best and it's not fair to rely on it because most of us try to get the most of the app and doesn't use auto, with this method we can know to the most possible power of each one. I hope I explained my point well with my poor English :)

      @granthartley Рік тому

Yes, I complete agree with you. I would never ever use auto, just as I never would with any other editing software. Great video thank you Anthony, but manual would definitely be a much fairer and real world comparison. Cheers :)

I would have liked to see how the image came out after Denoise + Sharpen AI in comparison to Photo AI instead of sharpening in Lightroom. Thanks for the video, I've learned a lot by watching your stuff.

For what I do with my photos I have found the Photo AI satisfies my needs as it generally produces a great result in a shorter time.

Thanks--I have both options plus DxO PhotoLab 6's DeepPRIME XD (and non-XD) and it depends on the image which I'll use. I generally prefer the DxO look (to any NR product out there, plus PL is my preferred RAW processor) but it only works on RAWs, and I have some archival low-res (and I mean low--like down to 1MP) JPGs and Topaz can do amazing things with them. I do like having more options and assume that Photo AI will eventually incorporate all of the features from the Topaz "suite." I still consider it a beta but they've been pretty good about rolling out improvements and bug fixes.

Thanks Anthony. Appreciate the videos. Yet, I don't see any responses to questions. I know your busy, but a quite response would be helpful, as i also have some of the same questions. After having Topaz products for awhile now, I am not happy with the results. I always seem to get lots of artifacts in the processed pics. That is why I came looking for your tutorials.

I find Photo AI is useful but frankly, I don't trust it to yield the type of quality I desire when I am going all in on a project and leaving no stone - adjustment imaginable and possible - unturned nor invoked!
If I am doing an image that I want to improve, noticeably, but don't want to work on it too hard because the intended use isn't critical nor needing to be of fine art print quality - I will use it.
I will also use it - just to see - if I can get an improvement, even if incremental - on a finished file that I feel is as far as I can get it. Sometimes, it does indeed give it a boost and helps.
As one sees from your tutorials, making an image as good as we can is part inspiration and as much, if not more, perspiration and painstaking attention to detail - speaking in the digital sense!
I find that the auto adjustments in DeNoise, Sharpen and Gigapixel are a good starting point, and sometimes I just go with them because I can't eke out anything more by my fiddling around with the settings manually, but usually even with those standalone products it requires my input but, that's a level of attention to detail that is strenuous in comparison to the ease of Photo AI - for when doing a demolition derby is not warranted.

Thank you Anthony. Question, should you do your editing first then send to photo ai or denoise and you did say send in tiff or jpeg, right?

Hi Anthony! I noticed that after you processed the Denoise version the metadata icon showed up in the upper right corner of the thumbnail. Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t you have clicked on that icon to import all of the Denoise metadata/changes into Lightroom? Appreciate the comparison.

Thank you for this Anthony. Two questions: 1. shouldn't you send the RAW-file to Denoise or Photo AI with a minimum of changes in Lightroom? I only do WB and Lens Corrections in LR, and then send it over. On very rare occasions, I adjust some of the elements in the basic tab (exposure, blacks, highlights etc.). 2.: Can you throw DxO Pure Raw in the mix?

Doesn't Photo AI work only the RAW file without any LrC changes that may have been applied when activated from the Plug-in Extras menu and return a Linear DNG that can be edited in LrC?

I also have done a similar comparison and have not noticed a difference. I've noticed that whenever I select "edit in" in Lightroom to use a plugin there are multiple versions of the same plugin especially in the Topaz family of plugins. The On1 photo raw does not appear to do this. Is there a way to clean this up?

It could be interesting to see which of them, Photo AI or DeNoise AI, is the better for fur and feathers? AI seems to change subtle hair patterns into synthetic looking Barbi features - contrasting plastic.

Somewhat sporadically Topaz Photo AI changes the original date and time on an image to the date and time Photo AI was used. Has anyone else seen this?

Problem, at the moment, is that you're running catch-up with photo ai, as Topaz are releasing updates weekly, so you're going to have to update the video at least monthly 😎
The latest release, as I'm sure you know, has vastly improved the masking ability; although there's a long way to go yet.

Why make a comparison video using a method which is not your normal workflow or indeed the recommended (RAW) workflow? And if it's six of one and half a dozen of the other it doesn't really need a 15 minute video at all.
