I could feel my brain become a little smarter as I listened to you guys. I'm not sure how to stumbled on to your channel, but I'm glad I did. Keep up the great content.
In regards to becoming a debtor as a company, I have lots of experience in this. As a child, I recall my mom not going into a department store when me and my sisters were teens. The reasoning I got was that they offered her a credit card and she got a couple thousand in the hole. She loved the store but associated the loan with predation and decided she couldn't shop their anymore. Secondly, when I was in retail management at a local and district level, the credit card was pushed as a management evaluator. My push back was always "do we want to be associated with the pain these people will feel later? Sure, we get a 15% bump today and next quarter, but do we want to be hated alongside Chase bank, etc.". My point being, offer a card, but don't let it be your brand associated with. I think it's long term bad for Apple
Love the pod. Scott, how do you not mention that one of Tesla’s strategies is to get as many cars on the road in prep of FSD going fully online? Then the potential of owners paying for it brings the margins back retroactively.
Let me start off by saying, this show is amazing and a literal life saver. Weirdly enough, I was going to ask about the Netflix situation this week in office hours (swear to God) and you talked about it today. My question was going to be in disagreement though, personally I have been done with Netflix for a while now. Living in Brisbane AU, we don't get the same content Scott gets in the UK or ED in the US and to me, Disney+ is so much better. The only reason I still pay for Netflix is because my brother, who is on my account, uses it. So the minute they enforce this ban, I am cancelling my subscription. I would imagine there are more people like me out there because I would only watch Netflix if there are new episodes of a show I like. In fact, I realized recently that I had forgotten Netflix was installed on my TV until yesterday when a new episode of Indian Matchmaking came out. I honestly think this will be bad for Netflix.
And he doesn't really make sense on that topic. Anyone can tell Google to not crawl (index) their site, but nobody does that because Google is sending them traffic - it's not at all like Spotify playing your song or the other examples he gives. Now with Generative AI everything changes and there Scott is making more sense but otherwise he seems like someone who is just jealous of how much the big tech companies are making and trying to invent logic for why his companies should get some of it.
that password sharing crackdown was the final straw. I coudnt figure out how to make my xbox be apart of the home internet so i just canceled the subscription. My life has significantly improved.
Having lived in NY, London and San Francisco, I can tell you that London ranks last in quality of produce. Waitrose is considered a high end grocery, and it has a meager produce offering - they excel in ready-made meals, and even those are quite sad. They grow almost nothing on the island and have to have everything shipped in. A large amount of produce is pre-packaged in plastic so you can't pick the exact fruits / veggies you want individually. San Francisco has not only more quality, but significantly more variety of types of fruits, fungi and veggies.
Sometimes I feel like I'm listening to the mainstream media with this weird anti-Elon sentiment. How would you feel if you bought a Tesla last year and watched its "value" go down 30 percent.....you still get the same award winning driving experience Scott. More accurately: imagine wanting to buy a Tesla and now you can for 30 percent less, you know, because as Tesla scales up it lowers its prices, which is exactly what they said they would do 7 years ago.
I’m watching this 6moths later -there is an advantage to WATCHING THINGS IN RETROSPECT as it gives you an ADVANTAGE AS A TIME TRAVELER and one gets to see things through a the “CRYSTAL BALL OF FUTURE “
Re: Tesla…could their price drops be about their goal of taking more share in the EV market? While there are so many more models out there from traditional oems, most of those lose money for those companies. Seems like they may be pressing their advantage as they ramp production.
Don't you think Tesla's other product lines like solar panels and ev charging stations to name a few, make Tesla more valuable then other 'car manufacturers, 4 wheels and a couple of seats competitors' would be interesting to analyse Tesla value streams.
I love how pushing the poorest and vulnerable people into homelessness to make room for immigrants is highly supported, but now middle coass jobs may be at risk everyone is freaking out.
Could a solution to the AI Ip problem be id the copyright and patent office allows citizens to signfy all of their digital data as intellectual property? If our data is considered intellectual property, then the companies would have to pay us to use it for their models. If music, video, and writings can be protected, why cant the rest of our data that falls in that category.
if apple is paying a higher yield then all the banks, wont apple have a lower margin for this service? or it doesnt matter because theyll make up for it in scale? also does apple have access to the same low rates that the banks can borrow at? or do they have a better rate potentially? anyone know?
Hertz corporation is staying away from from Tesla EV as those vehicles breakdown so much for them and it’s KILLING HERTZ BOTTOM LINE fixing the TESLA FLEET which is very very costly :so much for Tesla
So I scrape the Madonna catalog and have AI write a song and it becomes a hit. Madonna sues. I countersue. She says "Turn over the training models". I say "Proprietary business secret I will not". I created something new while standing on the shoulders of giants - which is what we ALL do. Apeing a style isn't a copyright offense - see Microsoft Windows/ Mac OS/ Xerox Parc. Gonna be fascinating in the IP courtrooms the next decade...
Thank God for the comments about Chat GPT this goes for DALLLE-E2 also. People talk about these algorithms like they're alive. Human beings created them. Human Beings control them. Machine learning my ass. " Good minds copy, great minds steal." A.I. takes this to a whole new level. Additionally I don't know what Chat CPT he's talking about. One of the first things I did was ask stock advice. GPT told me no dice. No can do.
I think what your saying about content being crawled and then an AI outputting something “inspired “ by that content is bunk. Artists are creating work that is always inspired by other work. Just because an AI does it shouldn’t change that principle. “ inspired by.” is different than copyright infringement.
It's not necessarily that people don't have money for food it's that they're wasting their money on other things and therefore they have to borrow or choose to borrow for food. It's a mindset.
@@TheSaxophony LOL . If you're going to borrow money for school make sure you get a degree that pay for the loan. Live below your means. Beans and rice rice and beans never hurt anyone. Of course we should help the most, but we've gone way beyond that.
Nobody should be paying for digesting content, which also means AI shouldn't. But using your personal IP for output and making money from that should be charged, which would mean only user that publishes your content should be paying, chatGPT is just a tool and should treated as we always treated tools and companies who make them.
The notion that the reason we don’t pay contributors to websites because it’s hard to track seems wrong when talking about AI. Too hard to track Scott? More like, if they had to pay for it, the house would come crashing down. It used to be that people would value their time. “Time is money”. Now people seem fine with giving it away. Imagine the market for “read-only Reddit”
Prof G podcast just keeps getting better and better
my favorite part of monday

Yes please video podcast is great. Just listened to this while cooking today, great to watch too

Mindblowing. Have been listening to Prof G since the beginning and Ed looks 1000x cooler than I expected. Always imagined him with a bowtie!

The commentary has always been great - and the new design tones are looking great.

Shhh
"...we need to shut off the crawlers to Google..." oh if I could get a dime for every time he mentions that story LOL

Waiting for the book. Got any signed copies?

Always watch news BACKWARDS as it tells you how much truth /accuracy the given platform holds ✅
I just want to learn how to speck publicly without getting nervous.
You guy's are funny and smart.

To much information Scotty! But it's the first time I've seen you smile that big.
Wow, Carlin ftw! (I'm reminded to be excellent to each other, don't wait for a mandate, just be excellent now.)
I need caption’s please 🙏
Jack Grubman was the telecom analyst Scott referred to
I love how they are both geeking out laughing before the show even starts
Forgot about SpaceX.Thanks.

new book sounds decent. What does scott think about the concepts behind 'four thousand weeks' and 'die with zero'?
Podcaster suggested looking at the overall market share of Tesla not the EV portion.
Scott put some money into Queen of the South. Cheers.

Can AI peruse legal libraries and give legal advice?

Tesla: Revenue 1st Quarter ‘21 $10.3 Billion ‘22 $18.7 ‘23 $23.3 Total Annual Revenue 2019 = $ 21.9 B And that is with only 4 models!
Wealthfront has been doing a 1:1 increase in their savings rate with the fed rate. And they're currently offering 4.3%
I don't really understand how some people don't have money to eat, but they have money to buy guns
Jaron Lanier covered payments for web content in “Who owns the future?” Which more people should read.
Scott doing a Norm Macdonald joke at the open.
Followed by a Carlin clip later, good stuff.

The music industry is absolutely crazy, licensing for whole classes of sync things is a true nightmare 😂
If any entity can figure that out. It's the music industry for sure.

Yes, wasting their money on things like their own or their children's education and paying their rent or bond.

Maybe it can figure out how to get legislation and. Congress to act on gun violence
