@@MattsWoodworks Damn that kinda sucks, glass of that size is readily available in my part of the world, but you certainly did an awesome job with what you had.
Absolutely impressive work on that base. Simple compliment but words cannot describe how much I actually loved seeing how this turned out. Absolutely fantastic job!
Brother that is a beautiful root, and a fantastic table… honestly the root would be an incredible sculpture all on its own. I truly hope they take great care of it. Peace
I like how you used the rusted steel rods rather than polishing them so the blend in with the color of the root system and do not stand out or take away from the view of the wood. The wood and metal base is a great feature and looks very nice. I think the acrylic top looks amazing also. Overall. stunning piece.
Loved how you sanded the end grain to bring out the detail. It would have been amazing if you could have sanded and sealed the whole piece, also back lighting on the wood. Despite my ideas the piece looks great.
My husband is getting me into woodworking. He’s been asking me to watch videos with him. This is the first one I watched from start to finish. I love that table. Great work!!
I am speechless! I cannot understand how you can have so much knowledge and skill with all of the different Mediums and Tools, at such a young age. Your Dad has to be incredibly proud of you. Absolutely amazing work and Video. Thanks.
Very impressive! The rods throw it off a bit for me but to each their own. One idea I’d think about on a different topic would be adding some lighting in the root system to give it some cool depth.
Man.. there sits many Judges High on their Horses here on UA-cam? Mostly highly critical of someone’s artistic work? Every artist sees things in their own way, that’s what makes being an artist is so unique!
Great job!! I’ve only been woodworking for 4 years and have a small shop on my property here in Northern California. It’s only 13X13 but I have it full of tools and it’s been great. I’m 65 this week so I figured out a little late in life that I had a passion for woodworking.
You do amazing work brother. If i have to be 100% honest, first ill say that that table is absolutely beautiful there will be no complaints, I know them poles were important it just seems like they're out of place because they're not uniform. But I would have only said that if I was forced to that things just amazing great work you got a subscriber for life here man
Fantastic table, but to me, the vertical steel rods are glaringly inappropriate. Sorry. They clash with the curvaceous base. Plexiglas at 1-1/2" thick is plenty strong enough for the vertical rods not to be necessary. Some straightforward bending strength calculations should have been done before deciding whether such rods were necessary. Good luck with your next one.
I agree, I didn't like the whole build just because of them, I assume he didn't want to destroy wood by cutting in and putting supports, but the way the rods looked from above ruined the amazing table for me
The care you took of this ageless lady and to highlight her beauty that only nature could create, you have the soul of heartwood, she shines in her splendor. Your unique talent and eye for nature's marvel, allows this beautiful lady to shine in all her glorious beauty.
I thought you were gonna set the top directly on the wood i dont like the pipe but overall outstanding job and creativity,i still love to have it great job
One of THE most elemental works of art ever created! All the energies of the earth radiating from the glorious wood -- when combined with metal and "glass" this table actually sings to everyone who sees it.
Left me almost speechless and waiting for it to be turned the right way up - you sure the drawing was not upside down? Nature and art together - fantastic.
I would have chosen a glass top and made it either an oval or capsule shape, to tie in the ancient wood with the modern glass.! I also would have finished the entire root.
Always good to see young folks getting the woodworking design bug. Youth aren't stuck in the mud of experience, hence their ideas are always fresh, new and exciting, even if sometimes a learning experience with materials choices and placement. That experience will serve you well when you're an old schooler to some like me! Pass it on please. I hope you feel the same in 40-50 years. Great piece!
19:10 The AquaDom pictured in the lobby of the Radisson Blu hotel in Berlin. It cost around €12.8m and contained 1,500 fish and over a million litres of water. On the 16th of December 2022 the temperature dropped to a freezing -6C causing the tank to crack and then explode.
My concern would be people sitting around it and kicking at the root network, hanging purses and stuff on the root and breaking pieces off. This would be cool as a display table in an exhibit where it would get proper respect. It looks fantastic tho, you did a great job!
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would have done different is not use the rusty pipe. I'd have suggested Brass to compliment the wood. I'd love to see something like this but fully and completely encased in crystal clear epoxy as one massive block for a coffee table or a massive counter of sorts.
I debated a lot on what to use, I didn't want anything loud to take away from the root itself, to me blending in was the best way, lots of people love the solid rod idea, lots hate it. lol
Stunning piece of work I just don't understand the rust covered metal work , it spoils it in my opinion but then again what do I know as I sure as anything I couldn't make such a master piece ...Great job , excellent
Thank you for sharing this fascinating journey. I know that you did ask to “comment” but, since art is so personal, I wondered how anyone would even consider criticizing this amazing feat of talent, skill and strength. I’ve worked w acrylic and it can be a bear! Art ain’t easy, I LOVED it!

Matt. Simply gorgeous table. I have to say I have never seen a feed attached to a UA-cam video with so many jackass comments. I hope you took it in stride. I'm in NorCal too and have a custom poker table. I can't wait to check out the one you created! Thx for the interesting content.
I love the way you handled the root base, the sanding to a natural polish that contrasts with the rest of the root - true perfection. The steel/wood/rusted rod base fit exactly with the character. You deserve to be really, really proud. Stunning.
I wish you would have put a finish to match the sanded pieces on the unsanded parts. With no finish next to the sanded parts it makes the raw wood look dull. I realize it may look much better in person compared to a screen
Nice landing spot for the finished table. Your fine work and the historical origins of the base will be appreciated by the restaurant owner and patrons alike.
I think the rusted stabilizing pipes on the corners should have been curved out instead of straight. the root ball has curves and twists. the stabilizing pipes should also been twisted and curved, just as nature. Could been done by a blacksmith or using a pipe bender.
I think this piece is awesome, in the sense that it inspires awe.I've read the comments and don't understand the scolding ones. Anyone who can accomplish this major feat certainly knows what he is doing. I am a natural wood lover, have a live edge 6' long 3" thick redwood burl table in my home. Glass scratches, too. Your solution was genius.
I don't get it. The steel bottom and steel rods, why? Instead of rectangular acrylic top why not freeform taking in consideration the redwood root shape?
This was recommended to me but I did see the table there. I couldn't figure out WTH I was looking at, even on a 70' TV!!! 🤷🏿♀️🤣🤣🤣 So when I actually saw the wood I jumped at the chance to watch. ❤️ I'm just bummed out because I'm not a fan. It's such a beautiful piece of woods and I think they wasted it.. 🤷🏿♀️
Hate the steel pipes in the corners, why not use wood for that as well? Or better, leave them out! Give a masterpiece created by nature, give it to a millennial: they miss the industrial, polluting plastics and let's not forget the light polluting with LED. 🤦
I am totally in love with this piece. Redwood is my favorite and in its natural state is second to none. What you did with this stunning piece is fantastic and 5 stars in anyone's book. I am now a huge fan and watching everything you put out.
I caught myself several times, watching w my mouth open in fascination and disbelief simultaneously! Looks great but the rods ruin it… get a branch or some kind of wood and have it drilled out, glue the rods inside of it. And then you can still bolt everything together with a wayyyyy better esthetic
I love it, however, those metal rods really look out of place. Seems like it would’ve been much more appropriate to find some other twisted root to incorporate that would have a look like it grew there.
Absolutely stunning. But, and I hate to say this seen as I do loooove this piece of art work but yeah, the rods, don’t like them in the slightest. They just looked like rusted old rebar pipes, against a stunning piece of wood and top. Still beautiful though and what a job, congratulations!😊
Why didn't use glass instead? It's way better for this application 🙃 specially tempered glass
You can’t get annealed or tempered glass this large, even if I could it would have been double the weight per sq/ft.
@@MattsWoodworks Damn that kinda sucks, glass of that size is readily available in my part of the world, but you certainly did an awesome job with what you had.

@@Anglo-EgyptianMan probably not as thick. But yeah esp at this cost im sure a piece of glass would have been able to be acquired somehow.
@@D3nn1s shower screen suppliers are a sure bet in my area
Those steel rods transform this from a dramatic piece of art into a sickly industrial afterthought. Mind-boggling design choice.
Can you imagine what it would of looked like with some lights in the base casting shadows into the roots ,but an amazing piece of furniture 👌
That what I was thinking like a thin fiber optic or led medium soft white along the base of root the shadow affect would look awesome.
Just as long as it’s not UA-cam presenter pink or blue
I actually want to get some soft/warm light LED pucks to put under there and try it out, I will post an update if I do so!
DEFORESTATION IS THE COOLEST
Yeah would look tacky and cheap 👍🏻
Absolutely impressive work on that base. Simple compliment but words cannot describe how much I actually loved seeing how this turned out. Absolutely fantastic job!
Really appreciate this! It was so hard to come up with something proper, thank you for the kind words!
Wow, so many negative comments… it’s beautiful, you should be so proud 😊
Brother that is a beautiful root, and a fantastic table… honestly the root would be an incredible sculpture all on its own. I truly hope they take great care of it. Peace
I don't hate the rods, but I think redwood branches cut to size would have looked better.
Yeah I agree, a redwood branch would have been much nicer. Still amazing piece though
And someone would have disagreed. Not sure, why people can't just enjoy something the way it is.
The rods did affect the most appealing aspect of this piece which is its 1500 year old wood
The rods look great. They add order to the chaos, same as having a rectangle top instead of having it shaped all crazy.
The rods are atrocious
I like how you used the rusted steel rods rather than polishing them so the blend in with the color of the root system and do not stand out or take away from the view of the wood. The wood and metal base is a great feature and looks very nice. I think the acrylic top looks amazing also. Overall. stunning piece.

I agree 100% the rods are visually disturbing. It takes away from the overall look of this beautiful table.
I love the rods that's weird they almost look like wood

Sorry for the language, but this is fucking fantastic. You've given the root new life and paid tribute to the wonder of nature. Thank you for this.
I cannot think of any words that would be adequate for its sheer quality and build thank you from the UK
Its great to see something that mother nature made used in a way that can be admired for years to come because she is the greatest artist in her world
I'm here for the woodworking. I missed it.
Could you put a thin sheet glass with top side rounded edges on top of the acrylic?
I was surprised that you didn't make the oval top acrylic.
It looks better with oval top, imo.

Isn't that the round aquarium in the hotel that broke in Berlin? Wow now I definitely wouldn't swim in one of those suspended pools!!

That is one of the sickest wood projects that I've ever seen.
The PPF guys do the aquarium in Berlin?
after watching the Acrylic top and rusty metal, I am starting to believe you have put a couple of zeros by mistake up there.
I agree with the commenter who said, "Dude, you don't charge enough."

That is one awesome table, liked how you stod behind your work, it's a one of a kind
I think a lighting system could've brought out the root even more! Just a couple of strategically placed small LEDs to give it more depth

Wow! Beautifully done. It's wonderful to see old wood brought to life and how beautiful it is.
I feel like money was left on the table,so to speak. The wood was so beautiful and original, but the top and base were so unimaginative.

At the time of viewing this, that fishtank in Germany burst 😳
Yup. No-one was killed, which is a miracle considering it was in a busy foyer. Unfortunately, 1,500 fish died.

Why the rusty poles? It cheapened a beautiful table.
