Im convinced our defense contractors hate or definitely short change us not having all our toys needed for war is some capacity. You never know when you’ll really need a plane like this.
I've actully been in a Tomcat and let me tell you it's an amazing experience if I was a multi billionaire I'd make sure that Grumman would build the ASF 14 Stralthcat and I wouldn't care how much it cost just to put the F14 back where it belongs on Aircraft Carriers. God I love this aircraft

No, we don't need a 70's design with modern avionics. It would be a waste of money. The F/A-18, F22, F35, and F15's are way better planes. Why do we need a 4th better plane?

Such a beautiful airframe, yeah Top Gun made me love this incredible bird as a kid, here in Ireland our military are working on a Stealth tractor that cannot be picked up at all on radar....because it can't fly but can your aircraft cause tailbacks of traffic on country roads? 😂 we have a woefully poor defence force here but we do tbf have one of the best SF units on earth the Irish A.R.W, please look them up, best sniper team on earth, first to beat American teams on US soil in the SF games competition, blessings from EUSSR occupied Ireland, I hope they do one day to make this again, the YF23 would especially with todays tech be one of the finest aircraft on earth, people say it's not as maneuverable in low speed dogfighting as the also amazing F22 and that is true but only slightly but it beats the 22 on everything else, a true stealth aircraft, almost invisible even with todays radar and is imo the best looking jet fighter to take to the skies, imagine an F22 and F23 together, that would certainly concern SU57 and J20 fighters.
The F-14 has always been my favorite plane with the SBD Dauntless dive bomber coming up second and F4 Corsair as my third favorite. I would love to see the F-14 come back into some kind of existence.
Got no love for the Spitfire, the Mossie, or The English Electric Lightning? I kid - I like your choices. Personally, I love seeing Varks at full AB. Or hearing a Bone spool up before take off, but there's some about watching a Lighting unrestricted takeoff thats visceral to me.

So much money has been spent and appropriated for the F-35, it's amazing we can even think of building another fighter.
If these new F14D's would be just as good as the F18 Super Hornets but cheaper, then I say go for it
the f-14d already exists and has been retired fully as well.
Honestly, the plane has a place in the current geo political environment that goes beyond money. Neither the F-18 nor F-35 have the top speed necessary to play the intercept role once needed for fleet defense. With the changing situation against China and Russia we actually do need a plane like this again. Which is something the Navy hasn't had to worry about since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 91.
The F14d was better than the slower weaker f18's it was politicians pocketing millions to have the weaker f18 to replace F14d.

The F-14 Tomcat is an awesome aircraft just like the F-15 Eagle, the F-16 Falcon/Viper (whichever you prefer), and of course let us not forget the not so pretty but still beautiful F-4 Phantom. These are 4 of the most legendary aircraft the US ever produced.

Miss the old 80's when at Nellis they had a packed ramp with the 474th and Red Flag going on with Navy F14's and F18's and mix in British Tornado's and German F4's. Loudest ramp on earth. US needs to get back to that ASAP !!!!
Old fighters sitting in the desert could be refurbished to be unmanned A.I. controlled attack aircraft used for one way missions into heavily defended enemy territory.
They shredded the tomcat inventory, because Iran had a handful left, and they wanted to starve them for parts, so they couldn't be used against us.

There are reasons why no variable geometry fighter aircraft designs were considered after the F14 program. All the successors have been simpler and more cost effective.
why do you use foot of aircraft other than the F-14 Tomcat? why do you use footage of the F-15 Eagle, E-6 Intruder, F-18 Hornet, F-111 Aardvark and Russian MiGs ??
the f18 looked very wimpy in the topgun 2 movie, it wasnt until the ancient f14 made its debut that we had a movie. The iranians have been trying to replace there tomcats but havent found anything better.
Most of the pictures are of F111s not F14s, what gives!?

The F-14 was designed partially off the F-111. Kind of related due to the swept wing.

Even if we wanted the F14 to come back, it can't Grumman no longer exists. The Navy, when presented with the Super Tomcat, chose to go for the cheaper F18 Hornet. Wonder why they keeping showing the F111 Ardvaark shots.

I hate to bust your' bubble, but airplanes using variable geometry wings were too maintenance intensive and made the planes too heavy. The last plane still flying with this old tech, is the Air Force's B-1B, and it too will go the way of the F-14 when the Air Force retires it sometime in the mid 2030s.....
What's with all the F-111 footage?
I am not surprised as RAAF F111 were going be modified for stealth features with raven EW tail but like stealth idea F14 it history but both jets should been produced.

I would love to see an F-14X, what mission would it full fill, currently? The F-14 Tomcat's main advantage over other fighters was its ability to fly 400 miles from its carrier, patrol for several hours (with an improved Pheonix / AMRAAM type missile) and kill enemy missile carrying bombers before they get within launch range of the carrier BG. When Soviet aviation failed the threat to the CVBG was greatly reduce the need for the F-14, so it was forced it to be retired. YES, the China's naval aviation is gaining in its ability to destroy USN battle groups but, the number of "us" who are looking to preventing this are very few. I have not heard of anything that would change the US Navy's or the national will or opinion on the topic. Can anyone foresee the USN or anyone in congress trying to find any money to re-start any program like the F-14 program?? (The F-35C can NOT fulfill this mission.)
The way things are progressing the PRC will get the capability to invade Taiwan within a decade into the future and the USA / US Navy and, UN will just spectate!!

Can it be improved, after all of these years? Sure. I think that the F-14 was a WAY
BETTER fighter than the F/A 18. Sure, the F-14 might have been a higher cost
fighter, but it was way more capable.
So, Grumman, design and build a "newer" version of the F-14, keep the costs down,
make it work, and keep it effective at taking down our enemies. Lower the weight,
give it more armament, increase the range, top speed, ceiling, and climb rate.

FYI, the F-14 was discontinued solely because of its maintenance cost which are three times that of an F-18 Hornet. Grumman has a long history of this tactic when selling it to our government.
Hate to be a "Negative Nancy," but this isn't happening. Stealth is the new thing and a "Super Tomcat" would (probably) not be sufficiently stealthy.
Not exactly true some missions still require full load out of weapons that stealths aren't suited for that's why the F15 hasn't died yet and stealth planes cost more I agree that the F14 isn't coming back but that's it

Why would we need it? It would be the biggest waste of money. The F/A-18 is a better plane. The F22 is a better plane. The F35 is a way better plane. All three of those are better planes. Why would we want a 4th better plane with a 70's design with modern avionics? It DOES NOT make sense. The F14 was specifically designed to use the Phoenix System. The Phoenix System is now outdated and antiquated. Look, its a nice plane but thats all it could ever be and become is a nice plane.
Unfortunately, you’re right. It’s merely wishful thinking. The F14 was a beautiful plane but as you stated, it just wouldn’t make sense financially or from an air superiority standpoint.
F-35 is a junkheap and the F-18 excels as a multirole figther but doesn't have the range to counter China's new weapons when fully loaded .The Tomcat will never return but a clean sheat design to take the role of the Tomcat to counter China and protect the zone of control around a carrier battle group is what is needed.
US would make the best decision if they decide to make a stealth super F-14 with the l as test technology available with electronic radars and weapon controls and engines it will be one hell of super fighter jet, and it would be saving billions in development and testing of the air frame and flight testing.
NOT AS LONG as you csn keep 2 F18,s flying for one tomcat. The F14 has always been overrated and way more expensive for its own good. THE COLD WAR IS OVER. LONG LIVE THE F15 AND F18 SUPER HORNET.
