    Brilliant, that Lex could get him on. Cue the genius donkeys in the comments that will second guess him with their 2+2=5 math.

    Realness is what instruments can measure with the caveat that the instrument is apart of the very reality its measuring and is therefore subject to inherent bias.

      It’s a fascinating thought.

      I almost agree, but I don't know how to think about phenomena that can't be measured at a specific moment, such as radio waves, which were not always measurable. Are these cases what your caveat implies?

    • @TactileTherapy
      @TactileTherapy Місяць тому

      @@francis5518 Thats a great point. Im mostly positing that with the assumption that all we know either is, or can be, measured. Fast forward 1 billion years from now and assume we've reached the pinnacle of knowledge, then what constitutes reality is all we can measure. Anything outside of that (like Qualia for example) isnt realness but something else - like panpsychism. It's reality but not realness. Realness = measureable or capable of being measured. Reality = incapable of being measured but still exist.

    “Objective reality” is honest. Science is honest or it is not science. Being wrong is not a failure for you are honestly wrong and admit it.

    Can the past be real? All our thoughts and feelings are already past, because they are observable. Only the observer is non-observable and therefore real.

      Perfect example of why comments should not be open. Really, some of you guys are so closed off (thick as S almost) that I’m surprised we made it out of the dark ages. The likes of Carroll, infinitely over the top of you or I, work on observation and solid math. IT IS NOT GUESSWORK! 😴 Grow up!

    ~1min: I would expect a scientist to know when to say hypothesis and when to say theory. Reinforcing the common misuse of the word theory does not help.

    as someone that loves this topic and reads a lot from many different people, sean carroll has the absolute worst views and explanations about what he’s talking about. he’s so adamant while constantly contradicting himself. he can’t be consistent for one second. i seriously believe his popularity comes from his personality, explaining things like he knows what he’s talking about, and people listening that aren’t as well read on the subject.
    sean carroll is a physicist. he is not a philosopher. his philosophy and his physics do not match up no matter how hard he tries
