As if the North of Spain couldn't get any better, we're introduced to Picos De Europa, the first National Park in Spain known in English as the Peaks of Europe. The highlight of the park could be the views, the greenery or the full blown wildlife floating around - but it's all about the glacial lakes. Theres 2 enormous glacial lakes at the peak, or there abouts, the National Park that really have to be seen to be believed.
Heading to Picos De Europa from Asturias was a pretty easy trip and a nice day of travel through the mountains. In this vlog we also travel to Gijon, a popular Spanish coastal town. The Peaks of Europe are obviously massive and take up a lot of ground, so having a car to explore and visit Gijon in the same day was vital.
This was our first time seeing the North of Spain and we loved it - it feels untapped, there's less people, less tourism and so much more to appreciate without the hustle. For a full read on what to do with 48 hours in Asturias check out our blog post: danegerandstac...
Northern Spain Tours should be the next thing you Google, find a way to get here soon!
Thanks to Spain Tourism and Turismo Asturias for inviting us to explore the North of Spain and share how amazing it is!

@@DanegerAndStacey we are a bit like the "forget one", regions like Asturias and Cantabria (Galicia and País Vasco have more tourism) are regions of Spain that the government do not promote. The typical "sun and beach tourism" is so much powerful that we simply cannot compite. But we are different here, when all tourists that come and visit Asturias have only good and nice comments of the region, we must be doing something right eh? Come back soon!!

Those mountains are where most of the ancestry of spaniards hid and fought against the moors, starting the Reconquista. They are very symbolic for me, not just for that but also because I'm from the north and I know how beautiful they are. Very interesting to see people from other countries visiting and admiring these lands, since I think that
they are very far from the stereotype of what people usually know as Spain, even though is safe to say that it is where my country originated. Great video and cheers.

The most impressive place in Asturias may be this (to activate the 5 senses): ua-cam.com/video/LzkajnckHag/v-deo.html
It is a few km from Llanes (you spent a day there). You have to go on a day with rough seas and high tide, preferably between autumn and winter. The tricky part is predicting the right day ahead of time.

The Universidad Laboral de Gijon never was a University as all people think what a university is. I studied there high school, never was built as orphand. The dictator Franco, built two "universities" one in Gijón and other in Murcia (I think..) as a replic of El Escorial. My father lived and studied there and I studied there. Were great times and met my best friends during those tines. Otherwise Asturias its a great country, awesome landscapes, good food, and good people who loves to make you comfortable if you are kind (with very bad temper if you dont). You can see how Gijón was in the early 80s , if you watch the Oscar awarded film 'Beguine the begin' (Volver a empezar), that talks about a couple who were lovers in their teenage, war and dictatorship separated them , and they decide continue romance when they are elders.
And if you watch Woody Allen's Vicky-Cristina-Barcelona, you can see a part of the film happens in Asturias, Oviedo overall.

They are not Celts. No more than any other part of west, central and northern Europe. There is no celtic language, no monuments no celtic culture in northern Spain. It was diluted by Roman/Latin influence. Also Scotland isn't any more celtic than England. Most of lowland Scotland was settled by Angles. Many of the places in lowland Scotland are English in origin, such as Edinburgh. 'Scots' is an anglo-saxon derived language. England has more celticness than Northern Spain.

Tourists are always welcome here in the North! We have landscapes, old churches and cathedrals, and great food. Because the weather isn't all that great, and the sea water is cold, tourists who come here are usually well educated and cultured, so we don't need to worry about the usual drunkards that frequent the South, fortunately.

Would you like to know the origin of the Industrial Revolution of Spain? Do not forget to visit the Nalón Valley, in Asturias, a valley that has everything, just 15 minutes from Oviedo and 20 from Gijón.
In addition, in the valley we have 11 museums, El Museo de la Siderurgia MUSI, El Museo de la Madera y de la Madreña, El Museo de la Minería, La Casa del Agua, La Pinacoteca de Langreo, El Museo de la Apicultura, la Casa Museo de Palacio Valdés, el Centro de Experiencias y Memoria Minera (CEMM) el Centro de Interpretación del Parque de Redes (CIPR) the star culmination for the museum inside the Pozo sotón ( only for brave people who really want to go down and walk through a real mine, where, dressed as miners, they will be able to chop and take their own coal stone) EXCLUSIVE IN ALL EUROPE, there is also the spectacular and new “Ecomuseo del valle del Samuño”, where you will be able to travel in a mining train through some beautiful landscapes, and then get to “La Nueva” village and see its museum there.
The Nalon Valley, presents many untapped possibilities, where the entire industrial revolution of Spain began, from there came the coal to be able to supply and move the whole country, or the Duro Felguera, where the metal was worked and today, is still preparing in silence all that area to make it known to the world.
Know that in a few years, if their neighbors propose, will be very powerful, nothing has to envy “Cangas de Onís”, as it has so many routes and places, such as the "Ruta del Alba", (the most famous) the Ascension to Peña Mea, the Coto Musel, La Camperona, La Faya de los Lobos, La Trapa The route of the L'Tabayón waterfall and thus with 49 routes that if they organize, they can promote them separately one by one for each activity, for horses, for Quad, for MTB, Trial, Motocross and Enduro, to go on foot, for climbing, caving, kayaking, fishing ...
Oh and if you walk along the path of the “La ruta del Trole” and carry a lighter, I will tell you a secret, you will find The “El Mechero de Saus”, IT'S SOMETHING UNIQUE IN THE WORLD !!! (look for information about him)…
In the area we also find various Roman bridges which are not at all jealous of the "Cangas de Onis" bridge (as it seems that this is the only one which is promoted in Asturias) the first of these is in "Puente de Arcu" in the "Pola de Laviana", a village in which there is the fantastic "Descenso folklóriko de Laviana" is a awesome Folkloric Descent of the Nalón river, an emblematic party and declared of national tourist interest (look for it on youtube and you will hallucinate) or the "Concurso Nacional Charangas de Sotrondio" party. In addition the whole valley has several Roman and medieval watchtowers throughout the valley from "La Colegiata de Santa María la Real" in “Tanes” next to the reservoir, the "Torreón de Villamorey" in the village of "Sobrescobio", the "Dolmen de la Campa L'Escañal" and the "La Torre de La Quintana y la Casa de los Solís" in "Ciaño" village, the hermitage of " El Carbayu" and more...
They have the National Park of "Redes", the “Tanes” Reservoir, where it would be beautiful to finally give the green light and make it navigable and can enhance the rural houses, in "Langreo" are waiting to give the green light to the project to make two river beaches on the river Nalón (the longest and most emblematic of "Asturias") and that would be nice once and for all, you could go down in a kayak, because it is a beautiful river, (and besides, the Sella River is overcrowded) Nearby you have the "Ruta del Alba", with several waterfalls, and there the Restaurant el Molino, where the little ones will be able to fish their own trout and eat it...
If you come to see one of their Rallye ("Santo Emiliano Rallye" without going too far) do not leave without visiting the new park of "La Felguera", which is beautiful, with its pond and full of ducks and its birdhouse, there you will be surprised, city where beer is made in the emblematic bar "El Brew Pub Espumeru & Curuxera Brewey of "La Felguera", which is the only place that sells, along with "Sama", to be able to see all its streets clean and well cared for, along with old buildings restored, The square of the City Council of “Sama” where it is cared for in the smallest detail and increasingly full of life.
The Valle del Nalón offers excellent cuisine (Menus of the day with three plates of food and homemade dessert for less than 10 euros), and to be able to lower the food, you will have at your disposal a whole walk of more than 20km along the riverbank of the Nalón river (the largest in Asturias) and is practically flat, very careful and paved to run, ride a bike or skate. When you arrive at the "Sotrondio" park, you will see that it is one of the most beautiful parks you can visit in "Asturias", and when you decide to go up and get lost in the mountains, you will find yourself at the top of the hill "El Alto de la Colladiella"... What a beautiful, unspoilt landscape... Go up to the "el Carbayu", observe the views of the valley from the chapel, visit “La Falla de los Lobos”, or the “El Picu de los Tres Concejos”, go up to the "el Mayau Solís", in all of them you will be amazed by the views, You can see mining villages like "Pampiedra" in "La Nueva" village or "La Hueria Carrocera" in "San Martín del Rey Aurelio", see the famous "Pozo María Luisa" in "Ciaño", or the emblematic bridge of braces that crosses the river Nalón in "Sama", and the local shops in their towns are full of quality... Visit “Canzana” and be amazed, what views, what luxury gastronomy they have and cheap, the star dish of the area, the “Cabrito”, which can be order “a la estaca” or asado, delicious .
For having, they have four theaters that if they know how to move, they could give great shows, to a shopping center called “Alcampo Valle del Nalón” where they allow us to enjoy several large and spacious cinemas, and the best ¡¡¡For only 4 euros you can see all the premieres !!!
I think that this whole area is a success to discover it and that it is still preparing in silence to launch it in tourism in a few years, take advantage to visit it now that it is still virgin and know that you can today, buy a house or apartment for 40,000 euros onwards, or if you want to create your own business for tourism do not miss this area, it is incredible that nobody has yet discovered this part of Asturias.

Hi Daneger & Stacey, in a past video you said that you prepare most of your evening meals at home, so how do you deal with the the cooking supplies in the Airbnbs? Ive noticed that cooking equipment is usually minimal and often times there are not even basic cooking ingredients such as salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oil, spices, so do you buy those things and take them with you from location to location? Im staying in an Airbnb in Budapest right now and there was not even one sharp knife..... and zero ingredients of any kind. I had to make a trip to IKEA to buy some basics.

It can definitely be a little frustrating - When we stay for long periods of time we often buy our own supplies and take what we can with us, otherwise we just find ways to make it work depending on what's available.
