Khatwenge was hardly 10 years old when Tom Mboya died. Therefore he definitely was not directly privy to intelligence matters at that time. It blows my mind that despite numerous accounts of the era from historians and journalists, this is the first time somebody is stating that Mboya wanted to kill Jomo. I can understand Mr Katwanjo's desire to get traction for his youtube channel. However, decency requires an acceptable level of truth in presenting matters with such historical significance. Has it not occurred to you that as an Inspector at the SB from 1982 to 1993, he interacted with Senior officers in the Agency who were his bosses and who may have passed over the information to him or that he had access to classified files that not all SB officers had?
Katwenge's are just cock-and-bull stories, otherwise referred to in Kenya''s parlance as story za jaba. These are the fellows who were doing the dirty work under Jomo Kenyatta's and Moi's of this world. His conscience is just eating him up and he is probably trying to clean up himself through these stories za jaba. I even spotted him stating somewhere that JM's killing was accidental. Katwenge is either senile or he is being eaten up from within himself.
@@ericmayaka7040 Neither is Katwenge. His stories don't add up at critical points. He has stated elsewhere that JM's killing was accidental. That there was no intention to kill him on that fateful day. I asked Katwenge how one could reconcile the so-called accidental killing with the fact that few weeks before the killing, there had been a bomb explosion in an OTC bus, a bus which JM had booked to travel on to Mombasa but which he cancelled in the last minute. Then Katwenge went mum on the subject. Katwenge should stop throwing around words without substantiation under the veil of former intelligence officer. It is only strange to those who are thick enough to believe Katwenge's fairy tales. Mboya had no plans whatsoever to kill Kenyatta. Decision to kill Mboya was not made abruptly at a zebra-crossing. Evidence of such plans appeared immediately after Kenyatta and Mboya wing had sidelined their common enemy ie Jaramogi. His sentry fired at his car and later the govt explained the incident as a case of temporary insanity. By February 1969 (the month when Argwings K'Odhek died in a mysterious road accident) it was already in the public domain that Mboya was a target for assassination. He shared his concerns with his close friends including Scheinmann. Read widely and stop following Katwenge like a blind man. Katwenge is also blind. He can't guide you to any destination, for he too, cannot see.

You are very correct on where Mboya was killed. He was shot at the door of Channis chemist as he was walking out, then pulled back into the chemist shop as he collapsed. But I differ on your assertion that Mboya was killed by Njonjo. There is a concept of the bearer of maximum responsibility for a crime. Neither Njonjo nor Kenyatta fired the shot that killed Mboya. Assuming Njonjo is the one who planned Mboya's killing and assuming that Kenyatta was not a part of it, then Kenyatta ought to have caused Njonjo to face the law. He didn't. Kenyatta cannot escape bearing the maximum criminal responsibility for the many political assassinations that took place during the 15 years of his blood thirsty and murderous regime. At each stage, he covered the murder planners because he was at the head of those assassination plans.

The best that could have happened to this country was Tom Mboya succeeding Jomo. With Jaramogi aligning with USSR ended his ever ascending to power. The West would not allow it.
Tom Mboya was never going to succeed Jomo. Those around Jomo had ensured that by constantly increasing the minimum age for one to run for President to lock him out. His frustrations must have led him to contemplate killing Jomo and taking over the presidency with American support.
I started by doubting this guy's Tom Mboya Narrative, but it seems to be true considering the story around the Bulgaria trained guy. His name is Nahashon Njenga. Guys you can google this guy. He is the reason George Morara Kebaso, MP of North Mugirngo dies afyter giving a 48 death altimatum. His grandson is the morara Kebaso we are seeing today. One of the witness to the case (Njenga case) was Mary Njeri, a cleaner at Kamiti prison that had met Njenga at a bar in Ngara. She wrote a statement at the police that Njenga had said, Tom Mboya was a very bad person. To make things interesting, Njenga was spotted two year later sipping beer in Lusaka Zambia yet he was supposed to have been hanged at Kamiti. Gius, gistory that we know, might not be the history that is TRUE. Also, however good a person his, his intentions are not always outright. So to learn be open-minded. The West would not allow what? Tom Mboya was eliminated by Kenyatta and his cronies. Kenyatta and Mboya were on the same ideological wavelength. Their strong differences arose from local political struggles, particularly with the common enemy (Jaramogi) having been sidelined.
@@edwinndirangu659 .That is very much inaccurate. Tom Mboya was the darling of the Americans, while the British preferred Jomo. Both were capitalists to the core.Tom Mboya had no socialist leanings .Never.
@@edwinndirangu659 You are absolutely wrong. I know that you, just like most have watched Mboya in some you-tube video clip extolling virtues of AFRICAN Socialism. That video was recorded in 1965 when Africa was becoming the playground of East vs West. This was the counter narrative to Socialism that was spreading across Africa like wildfire. Every leader was outwardly acting as a communist or a socialist to appear to be standing apart from capitalism whose bearers had just been thrown out of Africa. To claim to be a capitalist was tantamount to be siding with former colonialists/oppressors. It couldn't sell. Africa was an ideological battle ground and Kenyatta Mboya wing could not claim to be the capitalists that they were. At the end of that heated debate Kenyatta tasked Mboya, Kibaki, Njonjo to develop a sessional paper for presentation to Parliament. They were assisted by a bunch of American economists. The document was the famous Sessional Paper No 10 of 1965. The document was launched by none other than Jomo Kenyatta who declared that with its launch, the ideological debate raging in Kenya was expected to come to an end. It was one of the most hotly and ideologically debated documents in Parliament. The same document formed the foundation for Kenya's capitalistic and centralized development that changed only a little after the country adopted Sessional Paper No. 1 of 1980 by Robert Ouko, that brought in some element of DISTRIBUTION with growth. Jomo Kenyatta is the one who tasked Mboya and group to lead the ideological battle against Jaramogi and group in the political and economic direction the country was to take after independence. And he put everything into it ending in the sidelining of Jaramogi.
@@georgeodhiambo598 Thanks for the clarification. Funny enough I have a Tom Mboya book at home which I struggled to read because the editors did not do a good job with it. As the economic ideologies exist on a spectrum, it is safer to say Mboya was more free-market oriented and leaned more towards Kenyatta's political and economic view. I wrongly assumed that because of his pan-Africanist views similar to people like Nyerere, Nkurumah and Gaddafi that would automatically have their socialist tendencies. What do you suppose were the local political differences that would lead to his eventual assassination?
@@edwinndirangu659 Exactly. Mboya and Kenyatta were very similar in political and economic thinking. The only major characteristic difference between Mboya and Kenyatta was that Kenyatta was a kleptocrat to the core, while Mboya had a very dim view of the practice of stealing of public resources. Nkrumah and Nyerere were their ideological opposite. I am not certain how their political differences arose but I have read from other sources that right from the time Kenyatta,Mboya and Odinga started interacting closely, Kenyatta was uncomfortable with both Mboya and Odinga. But he was aware of some simmering low level rivalry between Mboya and Odinga. With Odinga the differences were ideological because Odinga was leaning towards the East. But with Mboya, it was his sheer brilliance and eloquence which bothered Kenyatta. Kenyatta's plan was to develop a strategy to eliminate/sideline BOTH of them. To him the most immediate danger was posed by Odinga. Therefore he deployed Mboya to lead the charge in sidelining Odinga, which Mboya executed pretty well. Kenyatta's second strategy was to eliminate or sideline Mboya. A sidelined Mboya could still have been a danger to Kenyatta due to Mboya's organizational powers, wide support across the country and vast international connections. So eliminating Mboya became Kiambu Mafia's choice. The plot to kill Mboya commenced in 1967, hardly a year after he had led the charge in sidelining Odinga. The sentry at his Nairobi home fired at his vehicle only for the Govt to explain that the sentry had temporarily lost his mind. Kenyatta and his cronies were also uneasy with Kenyatta's dwindling health and succession politics. Such were the dynamics in local politics that led to Mboya's killing.
He wasn't working for CIA. But Mboya, among many others were getting support from CIA, just like Eastern leaning politicians were also getting support from Eastern countries. True non-alignment was just on paper. All Govts, and all significant leaders in Africa were aligned to one side or the other. If you were aligned to a country, be it in the East or in the West, you ended up getting into the network of their secret agents. CIA was abundantly present in Kenya.
Jomo Kenyatta, Tom Mboya, etc who were leaning to the West were working with (not for) CIA. Africa was a battle ground between the Russia KGB and USs CIA. There wasn't much space left for fence sitters. Mboya's killing by Jomo was not based on ideological difference because they were on the same wavelength ideologically. Their differences arise from local political squabbles.

@@Mzalendo2295 Where has it been? In which document was it ever covered? This was one of the cover up and responsibility transference attempt by Kenyatta Govt in the very early days after the assassination. Immediately after the assassination, and even before the identifying or arresting the killer, Moi rushed out with the first Govt concocted story that Mboya's killing was the work of communists! Just like he did when JM disappeared and he told Parliament that JM had travelled to Zambia! In the case of Mboya, there was an uproar by Parliament and the story died out. Provide the source of this Katwenge story. It is actually a stupidly concocted story. How could events that had taken place in Ethiopia a day or so earlier lead to killing of Mboya on 5th July? A high level assassination takes some scenario planning because of potential backlash. There is so much credible and peer reviewed literature on Mboya so that anyone coming here as an intelligence officer with questionable stories will be questioned and critiqued loudly and clearly. Katwenge is well know for posting even self-contradictory reports to attract views. He is on record as having stated that JM's murder was accidental. That there were no plans to kill him! Tom Mboya was killed inside Channis pharmacy he was not meeting anyone else, i think this guy is being paid to misinform and distort history. i have listened to him and whatever he says any intelligent person can actually deduce and make an informed conclusion. Let him stop
I guess he has to put food on the table by all means
There are intelligence files in the restricted archives. He may have had access to them.
Has it not occurred to you that as an Inspector at the SB from 1982 to 1993, he interacted with Senior officers in the Agency who were his bosses and who may have passed over the information to him or that he had access to classified files that not all SB officers had?
He was an intelligent officer and probably he has gone through numerous files ...Mboya was not a saint...
When I pointed out that there had been a bomb explosion at OTC on a bus in which JM was to travel to Mombasa, and therefore the intention to kill JM had been put into motion long before the fateful day, he went mum.
If he wishes to debunk any records regarding Kenya's dirty past, he ought to do so with some evidence.

Hehe.
Full of inconsistencies.
That is very strange. Tom was planning to kill JK. Then somebody betrayed Tom. Luos don't easily plan assassin
There is no evidence anywhere that Mboya planned to kill Jomo. It is just an outburst by Katwenge who is just being haunted by the many crimes against humanity that he, together with his colleagues at Special Branch visited upon Kenyans. The man is hallucinating. Damu ya binadamu ni mzito.

You can't just go around throwing words aimlessly in the name of new information. T the time of independence and soon after, many young Kenyans were sent to foreign countries to learn all sorts of skills. They were not sent out there to come back as tools of those who sent them. Mboya oversaw the famous American scholarship program. Beneficiaries of those programmes did not become Mboya youth wingers. Nahashon Njenga was a Nairobi Kanu Youth winger and was among the many beneficiaries of Odinga's Eastern program. Others found their way to Israel. Nordic countries too. This senile Khatwenge should be more serious.
You never know what Tom Mboya was thinking.
Read widely and keep clear of Katwenges story za jaba. Njenga was sent to Bulgaria together with many others at around the same time of independence. That's public knowledge. And it was a part of the group that were sent through Odinga's patronage. Read widely my friend.
The West would not allow what? Tom Mboya was eliminated by Kenyatta and his cronies. Kenyatta and Mboya were on the same ideological wavelength. Their strong differences arose from local political struggles, particularly with the common enemy (Jaramogi) having been sidelined.
Ideologically they differed quite a lot. Mboya had Socialist leanings, though not the communist kind that Jaramogi was into.
Moi killed him not his power hunger
Moi had no capacity to kill Mboya and get away with it if Jomo Kenyatta hadn't approved of it. The buck stopped with Jomo Kenyatta.
In retrospect…was Tom Mboya working for the CIA ???
