Did I think the unserious show about finding a child's missing dick and balls after a weenie gobbling granny drops them somewhere would hit me with a poignant and real depiction of the horrors of a single mother giving up her dreams, dignity, and dance career only for her beloved child and light of her life to be kidnapped and sold off to get eventual death anyway? I'm gunna go for No for 500$ 🤣😭
I am actually not extremely surprised, though I did not expect it to this degree TBH. So far this show has done very well with characters and relationships, to a degree that hints at much deeper stories behind them. Yeah, the show has been fun an goofy, but there has always been a very real degree of humanity behind it.
Every time I see the kid get taken, my blood just starts boiling, feeling like I want to tear those guys apart. But the feeling turns into sadness right after. This has already happened and there's no saving this mother and daughter. This episode is such a whiplash. Love everything about it. Animation, direction, music, voice acting. It's perfection. Even the way they went about her suicide was beautiful and haunting. You'd think it's some ethereal place she's dancing one. But no, that's a rooftop. You see the city lights below and the roof is just wet from the rain from earlier. And that last leap that had too much air-time with the lights flying past her. And the thud after the flashes of her daughter. Masterful.
yeah she was doing lots of work including selling her body, those guys were like handlers collecting money she owed, the daughter gets taken and the scene where the mom is dancing is her throwing herself off a roof from grief
I just wish they didn't need to censor that, it would've made the scene so much more impactful than it already was for those who hadn't read the manga.
One little detail I appreciate about this episode/chapter is that there was no unnecessary fuss about lips touching lips during the CPR part. It was treated with the urgency and desperation it deserved, could've easily been a throwaway gag in some other shows
I think the general consensus is that Acrobatic Silky died sometime in the 70s or 80s. So probably before even Aira's parents were born. It's also implied that the daughter is dead.
The guys that beat her up and took her daughter, was probably something like Yakuza. Based on context alone, it seems like she owed them money (They counted the money in the envelope), but she came up short, because she wanted to buy the dress for her daughter... possibly for her daughters birthday. When she came up short, they took her daughter instead and left her there.
So it wasn't made obvious in the anime but in the manga it shows her very clearly jumping off the roof after the dance. She wasn't dead yet during the dance. And no Aira isn't related to her. She just got her confused with her daughter. When Aira saw he she was already dead. She turned into Acro Silky after imprinting, basically, onto Aira
If you look closely, anytime she got money for doing her night job, she put it in that brown envelope, it was the money she owed her I assume pimp. She used some of that money to buy her daughter the dress, which made her short what she owed, so they broke in, assaulted her, and then kidnapped her daughter
Na they aren't related. The mom was confused from death, she actually suggests she knows Airas not her daughter, Effectively using her to cope for the daughter she lost and never found again.
Trivia fact: The reason she can't remember her past is because she fell head first when she was doing ballet on the roof to take swan dive off of it. That's why she can't recall her real daughter, but she does know she was "looking for her daughter", so she sees Aira as her daughter and cursed to haunt her.
The very first scene in the flashback is her leaving the bed after being with a customer. The alarm that goes off is the time that he paid for. So yeah, naive. She did whatever she could to keep a roof over her head. We saw her mopping floors and working in a convenience store too. It wasn't enough. Those guys weren't just robbers. They were likely debt collectors or enforcers collecting money that she owed them. She was short because of the dress. So they took her daughter. During her dance, you can see the impression of city lights behind her as she gracefully crosses the rooftop to her final leap. A few more flashes of the little girl and then the thud when she connects with the ground below. That's when she dies.
DanDaDan will be 2 cours (parts) with 12 episodes each, so basically 24 episodes for the first season. No idea how long the break will be between cours or if there is no break and it is all episodes back 2 back.
Judging from tweets from the English VA for Okarun, the amazing AJ Beckles, it's gonna be split into two cours cause he called episode 6 the midpoint of season 1, so hopefully we just have a three month gap
Acro silky committed suicide. Dancing battered, and spotted with blood on top of a roof -- then leaping out with a final jump. The THUD! Noise after is her body hitting the ground
the sudden ED song ruined the mood lol. should have continue the credit with the piano track and the 4 characters just silently watch as Acro Silky disappear that would drive in the trauma deeper like Re:zero ep15 ending.
Did you think this show would go that deep??

did not expect it,
studio Science SARU definitely went above and beyond to elevate the emotion
This was unexpectedly jarring, but would have been much worse if the episode didn't start with that frantic scene 1st person pov.
well.... about that.....

Turbo Granny said exactly what needed to be said. She's the reason Aira saved Acro Silky and let her move on with her daughter.

Sadly Silky's daughter was also murdered by the kidnappers. "Take them to a kinder world." Really tragic.

i love that momo has her hands behind, so the only one who couldve given the ghost her peace is aira who is the girl she was first fixated on.

24? So second cour is jiji only story?
