Cool. I thought I was the only one who was interested in these types of tests. Those 380 motors are surprising. The Traxxas 380 motor really has some power.
The 380 sport tuned is a Great upgrade for grasshoppers. What probably no one think about is the handling of grasshopper / hornet. The 540 Will add weight to the rear gearbox suspension combo, that again will narrow the weight ratio between the shassis and suspension. To make a car handle the best, the suspension must be as light as possible. So a grasshopper will handle better with a smaller and lighter motor. I use a nimh to ad weight to the shassis too. These old cars are constructed for that weight. You can see that on other vintage cars too. Stoffer Springs bc of heavy bateries and electronics.
That was interesting! The 540 got lots of torque but the 380 Sport Tuned wins with rpm it seems, when up to speed. Thanks for the great video. Got a shout out for you today on my new little channel (at the end of the video, if you want to see it). Ohh, and subscribed :-)
Just as you said, the 380 sport tuned motor needs enough time to get the top speed. Thank you for everything you've done for me. Later I will visit your NEW!!! channel : )
Just brought this motor for my brother's 1:16 HSP Red Wolf trophy truck along with a lipo and full ball bearings, seems to be a nice upgraded without going brushless especially after wearing the motor in, the top speed increases. Stock 380 motor use to get very hot, this one is faster and stays cool, very good quality brushed motor. There seems to be alot of good Chinese brushless motors out now but for brushed motors it seems you still need to go Japanese.
@@cagemanch.7567 Update on this motor, now it's warn in, even more impressive. He has also now done a short run on 3S on a very short grass oval, very fast for a brushed motor. My son has a Grasshopper with the std 380 motor. I love the fact that with a 3000 battery it lasts for around 45mins to 1hr (beach/park) If I wanted to upgrade without impacting to much on run time would the 380 sports tuned be a better option than a 540?
Depends what you want, the 540 motor has more torque so better for sand. The 380 sport tuned has lower torque but more RPM higher top speed. If it was up to me, I’d buy the Tamiya 540 Sport Tuned motor for the Grasshopper.😎 With a ball bearing set, if you haven’t already done that.👍🏻

Probably, you can swap out simply. I think that it is the easiest way to improve the performance. Can your car's motor mount adjust backlash? If so, you can replace the pinion gear. Thank you for watching : )

OP.1393 has a pinion shaft adapter, so you can use a pinion for 540 motors.
Was the plain 380 motor a Tamiya also? What brand was it?
380 motors in this video are TAMIYA brand.
Is this 380 motor powerful enough to handle the 1/10 RGT rock cruiser? It saids it comes with a 370 stock motor
This 380 motor is low torque high speed motor. I think the motor is not suitable for rock crawling.Thank you for watching.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on motors. I think the 380ST is a good motor.
Tamiya holiday buggy is very popular in Japan, by the way.
Is the yellow or green wire negative on the tamiya? Also can the tamiya handle a 2s lipo?
Yellow wire is positive.
About a 2s Li-Po...
Many Tamiya products are not suitable for lipo use.
