Thank you so much for the video. But can you please mention "Pro" in the video title because i was searching for this feature in my free generateblocks and wouldn't want others to do that. :D
Global styles within local patterns is a great idea! I’ve just learned of both, global styles / local patterns when exploring 1.7 alpha. I‘ve been reinventing the wheel the last 4 years building everything from scratch. I can’t believe I didn’t know these features were built into generatepress. Currently I’m looking to build a cloud subdomain on my development domain for all my assets to pick and choose from for future projects. Still figuring out details on streamlining import / export of assets to future sites.
Like these focused topic series. Wish they were longer like 20 mins or so. When is GP going to implement what Kadence has with it's cloud storage of patterns?
Yep, so long as you remember to unlink them. I'm not confident my clients will do that and they will be overriding things on their site globally without realizing it. Both options have their place I think
@@kylevandeusen If they cannot follow the instructions to unlink then I would have reservations about them mucking around modifying or adding pages to the website. This just feels like a solution looking for a problem.
@@kylevandeusen Kyle, If I offended you I apologize, it was not my intent. I was just thinking out loud. As an old-time software developer, I tend to sometimes think differently than web developers do. I have learned a lot from you and would like to continue but from this point forward I will keep my opinions to myself. Keep doing what you do, you are a great resource for the WP community. Thanks
If you want to make a change to the pattern is there a way to push that update out to pages/posts already using it? Or do you need to delete everything and then add the new version of the pattern back in?
Great videos btw. Local Patterns are great but they involve a cut and paste that is totally unnecessary. It would be so much more logical to be in a page / post / cpt and when you have a block structure to be able to select from the GB menu -> Create Local Pattern. SO easy - all contained with where you are at the time. Wondering why they have not done this? Same as creating "Add to reusable blocks". Seems logical - if WP do it why not follow best of breed. Cheers
KVD killin it with the GP/GB content. Keep it coming dude!
Thanks Dave! Sadly this is the last one I had queued up from my batch recording a couple weeks ago... I don't know when I'll have another 😭
@@TheAdminBar BOOOO! What an absolute let down. 😂
Your crash courses are so nice! Thanks!
Up
Finally, I get the difference between patterns & styles. Thanks
Wahoo!

they're not built into generatepress, they're in generateblocks. :)
Keep bringing these crush course series 😮❤
Ant other things you'd like to see?

It seems reusable blocks would serve the same purpose? Each instance is linked globally but can be easily converted into “stand alone” set of blocks

Its more like patterns. Reusable blocks are not intended for the same thing.

@@jimnech5066 sounds like you got it all figured out then - you don't need my videos!

👍 great tip!
Do these GB Local Patterns show up via the + Block Inserter > Patterns?
No, you have to use the Pattern Library block from Generate.
If you want to make a change to the pattern is there a way to push that update out to pages/posts already using it? Or do you need to delete everything and then add the new version of the pattern back in?
Great feature! Is there a way to save and export those patterns to use on other sites like a custom design library?
Yes, you can do this through the native WP import/export feature, or you can just copy paste :)
Do you have any plans to create courses on GP+GB? Whose course do you recommend when it comes to GP+GB now?
Thanks for the gift

Great point - I couldn't agree more! Same for Global Styles (which I think they might make easier)
What do you do if you need a mega menu? Would you use another plugin? I cannot find a solution in generatepress... :(
I haven't built any... yet. But I do have a project coming up, so if I find a good solution, I'll be sure to share!
@@TheAdminBar One solution for gutenberg I found so far is in The Plus Addons for gutenberg. Looking forward to hear of other solutions!
nice. why use local patterns instead of generatepress elements?
Two totally different use cases. I use both :)
@@TheAdminBar a video to clarify the different use cases would be great. :)
Damn i am preparing mine on the same topic 🤬 🤣
😂 You'll do better than me!
