I was in the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi on a very hot day. My brother and I were driving a yellow Mustang convertible north after a lunch in Vicksburg at Solly's Tamales. I saw a black and white photo of Belfour for sale. Never heard of the man, but the lights and the stool and the hat.... I have it hanging in my office. Best part of the trip was coming home to New York and finding out who Robert Belfour was.
This man has feeling in droves! Poorly iIntonated and poorly tuned instruments sound so good in blues at times. Its a reflection of life and hardship. How things dont work out. What a badass bluesman. I love it!
Saw the "Back To Memphis" documentary hosted by Bobby Rush several years back & loved it. Everytime I hear this tune I can't help thinking about how short life is. Great tune, indeed!
I miss you my friend. I still remember when we first met and shared a table on the historical Beale Street in Memphis. Thanks for the wisdom and the long talks; and laughs over the phone. Rest in peace and job well done, Wolf.🏆🍻✌🏽
saw him on beale st. with an amp and that black acoustic just blaring that sweet drone. man it was haunting i had chills up and down me that summer night. he is the real deal.
That must had been an awesome experience! Sadly, me as a guitar player for about 23 years now and love listening / playing Rock and Blues, I've just discovered Robert yesterday.
I've always loved the blues more than any form of music, I just love the groove and the way that it resonates with your soul. I've only just discovered Robert Belfour and he is quickly becoming my favourite bluesman. I love the groove, the droning bass and intricate fingerwork, his soulful voice. He really has something special! Thank you for sharing this video!
Awesome! It's about time someone got a video of the "Wolfman". I saw him a while back in Helena, AR and even got to sit in with him on drums in Clarksdale, MS that night. More folks need to know about him, this helps a lot. Hill Country!
@deltabluesdavidraye......David, you are a lucky man. The next time you see Mr Belfour, tell him John from Scotland really appreciates his music.....superb.
@philoscout you are so right if ya dont like robert belfour then you have a hole in your soul, the first time i saw him it was in billings montana and there were 3 stages i ignored the rest, and stood there letting him put me in a trance i told myself then and there that one day i would open for him and my dream came true last april2010 in columbia mo.
@JoelGustav Actually his tuning is between dflat and d when i opened for him last april in columbia mo. he had me play his guitar when he had to relieve himself i asked where ya at and he said just natural. my first verse was a bit off cause i always tune slack a whole step. This man is the greatest , and so nice.
@kesenwein21 Good i share our feelings once i heard him it changed lot for me i became very determined and became his friend got him in columbia mo. where the locals have their head up the ass, just to show them the real blues , when the event coordinators ( theatre nxs ) asked me to open by saying you are the only one around here who can fill the bill it was a dream come true.
Robert Belvour style is called Hill Country Blues and it is quite different from the Delta Blues. He is one of the last remaining Legends of this Genre.
i played that guitar for him while he taking a break ta pee at mojo,s columbia missouri i opened for him ,an old friend and so good, the damn thing was wore totally out i think it is a ibanez if i remember. lately i wish he would hang it on the wall though cause it refuses to stay in tune nowadays was watching him just last sun at catheads before my gig down the street. i backed up T- model Ford right before my gig, and he is recovering well from his last stroke.
A gem of a performance, and only two drunks half ass clapping in the background for a response. A typical treatment of the best music and musicians this country has produced. A pitiful shame.
haha juke joints musta been awesome, this is a kimbrough cover aint it? also another awesome blues guitarist! check out the hokes english band love the blues! peace!

In VERY loving memory of Mr. Robert "Wolfman" Belfour (1940 - 2015 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
In my opinion, he was the last of the great Mississippi Blues masters. I grew up about 10 miles from where he was from.
Finally found this! I had downloaded it on a computer that died years ago.

Robert is the greatest i know him personally and he is so real in all ways i have learned a lot from him , Hillcountry blues is it! David Raye.
I Remember Buddy Guy did a cover of this song on the Sweet Tea album . This performance was excellent . This is old school to the core .
Wow! Just found this stuff. Better late then never.

The guitar work in this one kinda reminds me a bit of Belton Sutherland. Just a little bit.
John Alex Mason speaks about Robert in the video clip I just posted.

it sucks to get old but the alternative sucks too.
@shiknew My comment was delivered rhetorically, i.e. I'm not soliciting a response or reply.
