This game was definitely a big part of my childhood. Without it I wouldn't have even gotten into gaming. When my mom got it for me I just became hooked! So this is now my favourite piracy screen.

alright i think i know how to beat the boss FIRST: A little prep before the fight, its proven that you can get quite far in the game before you encounter this thing: meaning your best course of action is to first grind to as high of a level as you can, by then you are potentially next rank, meaning we can get bonuses to help our odds I'm not 100% sure nor am i invested enough to search what skills you can get, but for paper mario at least, you should try for extra copies, which will help during the one turn we have him at the start of the fight SECOND this may not seem so obvious, but it appears you can still access the toad shop here. Assuming we HAD to talk to the toad to start the boss, this gives us more options for the best gear we can get, and as such, after grinding as much as possible, we should grab the coins needed to buy the gear and 1ups. Before we go further, we should clear up what this boss can and cannot to This boss has the same abilities as the king boo fight This boss has the ability to alter timings for dodges* (More on that in a second) This boss also has the king boo noises and same mechanics of paper mario being removed turn two. which leads me to believe this boss DOES have a set limit of health. for what we've discussed so far, we'll say this boss has the same health. You'll notice this boss DOES reach the indicator that 1/2 of its health is gone, which contradicts my latest statement of this boss sharing health with king boo. This is true to some part. We can assume it is at king boo's health... OR LESS.. if this boss has the lowest possible health (being damage done with counterattacks + another turn) it MAY be possible to one shot this boss.. but lets assume we cannot, now lets move on Notice how i said it alters the timing of dodges, not nullifies dodges entirely. Until proven otherwise, i believe that a very late dodge MAY have the chance to not inflict damage on either bro. Also based on what we've seen, as long as paper mario is alive, timings will not glitch. meaning we now have priority for the fight which is getting back paper mario ASAP ACTUAL BATTLE We start off with the boss's turn. We need RNG to pick the invisible reappear attack so that we can immediately inflict some damage. After that dodge them all (obviously) to get to your turn You need paper mario to select hammer, since there's likely an invisible crown considering boss logic and to hit max times. And the bros need to do max damage with fire flower and red shell. next boss turn: The boss needs to choose the same move as last time and everything needs to be counterattacked. *Boss 1/2 indicator, paper mario is gone* This is when our info comes into good use. Another comment suggests having 1ups ready to use, which i agree with, so thats why we need one ups. make sure to use bro attacks for full damage, and here comes the fun part. in THEORY rng can choose the same move AGAIN, but it may be a guarantee that it uses the other move. in either case you need to hit the dodge late but not too late. Both marios should still be alive, and you also have another enemy to deal with. Knowing the fight is normal with paper mario back, you need to target the paper boo? (idk wth that thing is) Knowing fire is x2 effective on it, luigi needs to use fire flower, and mario needs to jump on the paper boo since its immune to green shell. Assuming its gone now, rinse and repeat, make sure paper mario gets copies back. and since it cannot have unlimited health, you will win.. BUT WAIT! The boss also has a chance to use an attack that targets all 3 in a boomerang segment. but from experience, sometimes it never uses it at all. The game will likely crash from this, so RNJesus save us now! Whew and thats my strat to beat the knockoff king boo boss
UPDATE: So i did some searching, and i learned that this boss is basically the same boss as king boo in the arcade Since there is a full stack of the paper things, you actually need to survive a few more turns to defeat them and get back paper mario. I also have reason to believe that battle cards may be usable after getting paper mario back, because the game is programmed to have paper mario come back with one copy after defeating the boos, the game may also auto enable battle cards, its just a speculation but it may work... Oh or just skip all of this and do the paper mario exploit which involves not dodging for mario and luigi so that paper mario is left solo to dodge every attack, considering the speed difference, you would still get hits off either way considering what we know.

Only Mario actually died by the player’s fault, Luigi was killed by an unavoidable attack (as the short glitch meant that he could not counterattack), and Paper Mario was straight up taken away and killed. This implies that even if Mario had been playing perfectly to survive, an unfair attack would have still resulted in game over.

Curious, how much of these videos is just clever editing, and how much is actual modding? I've been wondering about sprite editing in the 3DS Mario and Luigi titles for ages.
If you're asking about sprites and textures, I used Citra's texture loader. Enemy data (stats), text, and music were modded. For all these videos I've used a hybrid of editing and modding, as I've found modding to appear more convincing as real. Unfortunately I don't know how to edit the actual sprites in the romfs, as I can't seem to extract them, so that's why I used Citra's texture loader. I am interested in editing things in Mario & Luigi, so I'm glad to hear people drawing attention to the modding aspect.

It can also do some stuff with Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story, but it's very limited.

this game is very glitchy and you can clip out of bounds pretty easily, so I went to the forest to mess with how the game makes you play as Luigi for a bit and managed to get to the king boo fight. I actually beat the king boo fight at like level 5, it took forever.
I think i know a good way to win this fight has in my steps. Step 1. Beat all the enemies in the sunbeam plains Step 2. Go to The gear shop and buy the best gear there Step 3. Whenever its paper Mario’s turn try using the hammer because in the normal king boo fight the king boo has a crown on its head and trying to jump on it causes you to take 1 damage Step 4. Make sure to perfectly dodge all the attacks and make sure to perfectly dodge the unfair attack that kingboo does Step 5. Whenever you perfectly dodge the attacks you should revive luigi and then spam as many bros attacks as you can And then you will finally win the fight and be able to beat the piracy system
