I want to thank you so kindly for turning me on to “Let’s Boogie”!!! I’ve loved ABBA since I was a toddler, and have always followed everything they’ve done ever since. However, this true GEM of an album is truly enjoyable! I had no idea that Michael had made this album! So again, thank you so much Bobby’s Brother!!! 😍😍😍
@@bobbysbrother137 I also really appreciate you and all that you do for ABBA and us fans!!! I’ve followed your page since the very beginning…I love it! 😍 You’re most welcome!
Only heard this album for the first time about a year ago. It's a real little gem. So much care is taken with the quality and production of the music which is unusual for what is basically a comedy album. If anyone hasn't heard this, the whole album is on UA-cam. Thanks for another great video BB
Thank you for giving me something new to discover! I already adored the craftmanship and the genius of Michael who was a part of ABBA. He was one of the pieces that fitted so well together, it was catching lightning in a bottle. Like it was meant to be. The older I get the more I appreciate that fact and that magic that was and still is an important part of my life. I don‘t know what man I would have become without the music from ABBA.
Fascinating video. I do have this cd being an Abba music collector, but must admit haven’t given it much time, thinking it was all a bit silly, I didn’t get it.. Time to play again… Great video BB.
@@bobbysbrother137 I’ll listen again with an open mind BB. Can I ask you a couple of things, my go to Abba man.. Did Abba do a demo of Funky Feet, and if so have you heard it? It was a hit here in Australia by ‘The Studs’. Also, who is Billy G-Son. I see that as extra tracks on the deluxe edition of the Ring Ring Cd. Any info would be appreciated.. thank you..
Being a die hard ABBA-fan from Waterloo and so on, I remember very well in the summer of 1976 Swedish Radio P3 had an episode every week of how to record a pop-song in the studio. It was part of the weekly radio music show “Record mirror”. In each episode the listener got to learn how overdubs and other effects were created and in the last episode we got to hear the finished production of Paper Dolls. They even did some interviews with the musicians and we got to hear them doing instrument overdubs and got to hear the song background taking shape. It was fantastic to hear and we got a glimpse of how ABBA themselves developed their songs and experimented with new techniques. Thank you Bobby’s brother for the revisiting Let’s Boogie!
OMG. I just listened to the entire album on UA-cam. Such a fun musical event. I never knew this existed. Its Corny and Yet clever. The Ladies are so prominent in the background and sound awesome. Thank you so much for bringing this to Abbaholics like myself. I've shared it with my Abba Friends as well. Well done Bobby. 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much for this great story! What a lot there is! The Abba universe is really huge. It's great that you share it with us😍. By the way, my favorite song is: Doc Mcgurgle's Babylonian Lizard Tooth Oil. For me, that's a pure ABBA song from the period 1973-1975. Wonderful! Wouldn't it be great if you/we all listed all the albums that were created around ABBA? For example, this one, Lycka, Gemini, BAO and so on and so forth. That would be our ultimate favorites list!
Thanks so much for reminding me of this brilliant album. Michael is a genius...so hilarious. Haven't listened to it for ages ...can't stop laughing 😂😂❤
The album is beautiful! It is nice to see how ABBA worked as a family with other Swedish musicians. I feel like these songs can be used in a musical. I wonder, will any artist or actor today will like to take that opportunity?
I love this album. My Belgian friend introduced me to it and we found a copy at ABBA day in Roosendaal. Robot Man and Dr Mc Gurgle's real favourites. Apapa
I bought "Let's Boogie" back in '76 and still enjoy it very much. It's a long time ago, but "Paper Dolls" was a hitsingle here in Denmark and I think that the album did spend a week or two in the top 20 sales chart. Killer backing vocals on Robot Man and Doc McGurgles Lizzard Tooht Oil. If ABBA had released Paper Dolls themselves, I believe it would have been a big hit. Mr. Tretow a very important piece in the puzzle of the lasting success of ABBA.
I literally only know about this album because of the other video on this channel about ABBA's secret sound and Michael B. Tretow, the main presumably behind much of it. At the very end of the video, Let's Boogie was briefly shouted out. And yeah, it's a great album. I'm baffled how secret and unknown it is. It's not even mentioned on ABBA's Wikipedia article or their discography article. And on Spotify, it has a criminally low stream count. This record is the epitome of obscurity. Tragic.
Of course I knew that Michael B. Tretow was so important to the AꓭBA sound in how the music was mixed, and I think I had a vague notion from somewhere that he had recorded/released something of his own but somehow it never actually connected beyond that so I was completely unaware of this very interesting album and that AꓭBA actually perform (along with other familiar names) on the album. Thanks for pointing it out. I do have to ask though… is there a copy of all the lyrics somewhere? I looked around online and found lyrics for only a few of the songs and sadly the album doesn't seem to be available for purchase in the US. It would be cool to see the complete lyrics (especially as the different effects on the vocals can make them a bit difficult to figure out in places - plus the audio I found to listen to them isn't the best). Thanks again for this great video.
I'd heard about this album without actually listening to it. Thanks to you, I've rediscovered it, even though I'm not convinced it's a good album. I did enjoy the backing vocals by the girls but I find the tracks a bit dated. Sorry if I don't agree with your feelings and the other comments. Thank you Bobby's brother for this New video !
Interesting! The album is very unknown in Sweden too - while his later (1981) comedy album together with Ted Gärdestad under the band moniker Caramba is reasonably well known, I had never heard about this one before. Several of ABBA's sidemen also worked on the album "Smile" by Swedish pop singer-songwriter Harpo (on LP in 1976, never re-released on CD), for example Jan Schaffer, Mike Watson, Roger Palm and Ola Brunkert. That one's a really solid album with great production and well worth looking for.
I've got this album and I agree it's full of fun and catchy songs! The ABBA sound is there now and then. My favourite track is "Keep your hands to yourself", that sounds like something by Weird Al Yankovic.
nice job cool video ! I was wondering if you ever got any footage of any of those early abba concerts you asked for? Anyway people who take offense I'm sorry but I have to comment that @ 4:08 my God agnetha can she be anymore beautiful , to me she is the prettiest women i have ever seen
It’s not that’s it’s “forgotten “ it’s just nearly impossible to find. And you can’t even play any of it. It is finally available on streaming services now.. I had “bootlegs” for paper dolls and moonbeams for years.. I’m sure this video will bring more attention to this hard to find album.
Robot Man - became a hit for Swedish dansband Vikingarna under the title Robot Romeo. Btw. MBT also made fantastic childrens stuff. Trafik Trolle. Where he does Voluez- Vous into a song about Volvo..
Interesting, That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles sounds like an early state of Ted's Magical Girl & Chapeau Claque which later became Take Me Back To Hollywood.
Bobby's Brother do you know Moviestar ? and who sings in the chorus? Im sure you do :) I saw a movie here on UA-cam the other day, its called MOVIESTAR DOCU ( yes in capital letters)
Ok Bobby's Brother...I LOVE your content! I'm a huge ABBA fan. But boy do we have a different reaction to Tretow's Let's Boogie album! Please avert your eyes now if you prefer not to see a negative assessment. For me it's utterly intolerable. I can't even get through any of the songs, and may be the single worst album I've ever heard. I'm actually shocked that someone as talented as Tretow, who was working in such a rich musical environment with ABBA for so many years, could have come up with something by turns so banal and ugly. I was hoping I'd hear enough Frida and Agnetha to let me enjoy at least one song but never found it. But I sure agree with you ABBA are top class! (And I don't mean to discourage anyone else from seeking the Tretow album out. Hey, it may be to their taste).
This is fascinating BB!! I had never even considered listening to it, even though Tretow was so important. Thanks for sharing this!! Have you ever commented on the missed Abba hit Funky Feet, finally recorded by Alcazar? It boogie-worthy!!😂😂
I have not, but "Funky Feet" was first given to Svenne & Lotta, after ABBA abandoned it. S&L recorded in 1976 as the opening track for their album "Letters". Amazing version! Thanks for the kind feedback.
Just listened. Tretow was being unfair to himself. His voice was no worse than Bjorn's - and, Indeed, if anything, it was warmer and more characterful.
I must be in the minority here, because I thought that album was very bad. The silly songs to me are not funny though they sound like they're trying too hard to be funny. The album cover itself is ugly and it should have pictured Tretow with ABBA in the studio. Only Doc McGurgle was interesting since it had a ABBA-like chorus. Other than that, it's a very forgettable album, one that can be filed next to another bad album, The Nashville Train "ABBA Our Way".
Let´s get this right. This is not an ABBA-album at all. None of the songs were written by B&B. Tretow wrote all of them together with Thomas H Minor (swedish composer for a lot of swedish artists). Even if A&A are featured they are just background singers as well as several others from the Polar studio + musicians. Tretow himself is leadsinger on all tracks. The intention of this record is just a funny bunch of songs (made in the spare time in the studio sessions: mentioned in newspaper interviews with Trerow in the 70´s). All songs are in Tretows caracteristic style wich he in Sweden are known for - Caramba band (with Ted Gärestad), The Professor and several other projects). Nontheless a brilliant album full of "craziness". But an ABBA-album? NO!
I did not know and I am incredibly happy to find a whole new album of Abba sound that I never listened to.
Me to! Thank you so much BB! How can I buy it?
“Arrival” or “the album” can be considered the sergeant Pepper of ABBA because every song was just great on those two albums.
Love that album, bought a copy in the 70s and the expanded cd as well. Shows Michael's studio wizardry and humor. His albums from the 80s are fun too.
