But the message is actually a fabricated declaration of war sent by some unknown party. Upon learning that Hinata is heading for Tempest, Rimuru makes a decision... Spent his time sealed away in a cave. Gets to spend the rest of his time in a cave. The difference is he gets a salary.
And he doesn't have to hold back his power, he's been struggling for a while
And he gets to leave the labyrinth whenever he feels like it. So it feels more like a home then a prison.
It's more a 9-to-5 job that comes with a house, all comforts, everything paid and the opportunity to unleash his inner chuuni.
He can leave any time he wants except when there's adventurers in the labyrinth that are approaching him. It's just that when he leaves, he has to restrain his aura, which is annoying. Like a chronic nudist having to put on the world's most annoying pants.

I cant wait for the scene where he finally unleashes it all and how even with all the prep they did to contain and use it, it still nearly overwhelmed the labyrinth. He gets treated as this goofball joke, but the dude is still a calamity upon the world given sentience.
