Why is it so hard for matchmaker to balance the tonnage? It obviously ignores the mech weights in favor of something else; maybe it's looking at balancing player weights instead?
@@vincevassallo5385 Lack of a large playerbase. They've had to do all sorts of things to expand out matchmaking as fewer and fewer folks play. Not that MWO is *dying* or anything, just a lot less people playing nowadays. We also see that tonnage doesn't matter nearly so much as folks like to claim, right? It does matter, but we see all sorts of what should be one-sided stomps go exactly the opposite way, due to player's skill, luck, etc.
@@jtcbrown Since the Euro server went down, I definitely agree. More and more matches are now unbalanced due to player tiers so radically different. Played for 2 hours and kept seeing the same Tier 1 groups over and over in my Tier 3 matches.
@@jtcbrown The game IS dying. PGI already stated they hadn't been making money on mech packs for quite some time now and that was over two years prior. The issue is that the game feels more like a big solaris team brawl and doesn't offer anything particularly unique between matches. Instead of adding a huge number of mech options, they should have worked on more maps and variety. Seriously, if you omit the variations of each map, you get a total of like... 5-6 unique options. Unique doesn't mean you count Hibernal Rift and Canyon Network as two maps. One is a cold rework of the original map and offers no real difference. So many new players I've brought into the game all complain about how it's the same map rotation, and it's always the same 6 maps every time, best part is that they're almost all cold maps too, which is even worse. If the game isn't dying, then why did PGI sell themselves out to another company? They had nothing. They've HAD nothing for the past couple years. MW5 was a sham because of the EGS debacle and the lies about people being allowed to keep steam keys. I remember Russ saying they'd made about 20,000 sales which was about what they were hoping to manage. Let that sink in, TWENTY THOUSAND SALES WAS THEIR EXPECTED NUMBER. Lesser, unknown games manage higher sales than that, which shows how tiny the playerbase actually is. I enjoy MWO, but I'm also really good at the game. Doesn't mean I can't see the writing on the wall for the company.
Honestly in a vaccum your heat management SHOULD be worse since radiating away heat requires a medium to radiate it into (air or water). People say space is cold, and it is, but even in the shadow of the earth you would overheat rapidly due to being unable to regulate away your own body heat (ignoring the fact that you would suffocate and pass out in about 30 seconds to a minute).
In keeping with Cunningham's Law, conduction of heat or convection of heat requires a medium to transfer the heat into. Ironically, radiative cooling does not require a medium to transfer heat and works (albeit terribly) in a vacuum.
@@randombloke82 Eh, maybe. Again, the heat needs somewhere to transfer to, and evaporative cooling might just result in superheated particles all hanging out around the point of exhaust - depends on the exact mechanism there.
Just keep in mind that a vacuum is the absence of atmospheric pressure, not the absence of everything (light is energy, the same as heat and it does travel.) I agree it may not work nearly as well but certainly would not cease to transfer at all.
@@uialion1740 Exactly; it just does so very, very slowly. Look at how the ISS does it; that thing is almost 20% heat sink surface, using liquid ammonia routed through radiators along the solar panels (kind of.) And ISS is actually skimming upper atmo so it would have an easier time with this than in a "true vacuum." Simply expelling the heated ammonia would actually be worse than what they do; you'd have a cloud of superheated ammonia hanging around the vessel for some time after venting.
Great vid as always. It's nice to see some of the less-used mechs in your videos, and as a centurion pilot I approve the idea of you featuring one soon. 👍
Ah, the Zeus-9S! It can be pretty fun with triple LPL in the torso mounts + triple ER ML in the arm, and it'll even fit a TC2 if you use Baradul's 300 light + light ferro choices. But that's a lotta beaming going on in this video!
The Zeus is a wide fat mech with large hit boxes and insufficient armor for an assault class mech. Still, I don't have one so I might try this out for kicks. In Game 2, the enemy team called out the location of an active player in order to shorten the match. That's unsportsmanlike and should have been reported as toxic player behavior. This has happened to me as the last survivor when I didn't want to stroll in and get massacred by a clearly superior team. That's part of the game play. Suck it up and let everyone play their game. If a flea wants to dance around the battlefield to avoid the enemy, let him. Beside, it's good practice for the enemy to hunt it down. My job is not to make it easier for the enemy, but the opposite.
