Was thinking exactly this line while doing my extracurricular research about the various South Indian kings who established Chola and Pallava dynasties in Cambodia, Thailand and other south-east Asian countries, while reading Ashwin Sanghi- that we only learn about the north history and Mughal invasions where we essentially lost in the long term. What does it do to our collective psychology that we only learn of ourselves as the 'defeated'. I am so glad that this is an idea whose time seems to have come- to explore our histories of being undefeated in the southern and mountain kingdoms. I really look forward to this book of yours!

First of all, you MUST call country as it's own original name i.e. BHARATVARSH & people as Bharatiya & not that meaningless india & people as indian given by greek n implemented by british. Of course, for that people also have to change their mindset & have to become Bharatiya as how were their ancestors. Becoming modern doesn't mean all should change their & country's actual Identity i.e. name. Japan is Japan, Korea is Korea in all languages including english too then why BharatVarsh is not BharatVarsh in english.
There is NO ANY india findia exists in the whole world all MUST understand.

Namaskar Shree Iyer. the Maratha story you are telling is of the expedition of Marathas under the Peshwa's (Nana Saheb) younger brother Raghunathrao (aka Ragho bharari, meaning the flight of Raghunathrao). It was during this expedition that Punjab for the first time after 600 or so odd years was liberated. He then moved up to Atock where beyond which lies Afghanistan. Marathas were now posed to have direct clash with Abdali. It was the letter written to him by Shah of Persia.

    1. Dhananjay Keer is a professional biographer, out of my head without looking up, he also wrote the biography of Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shahu of Kolhapur
    2. It is Sarkhel not Surkhel
    3. VDS didn't take Marathi to any pristine glory, expecially to Shivaji time, the language at the time of Shivaji’s was heavily populated by Arabic and Persian, esp., it was Shivaji who purged Marathi of many such words, he commissioned a Raja Vyavahar Kosh should I say an encyclopedia of political and administrative terns. In this area like many other ones Shivaji had amazing clarity and sense of purpose. The official title of say Bajirao was Pant Pradhan however he preferred the Persian Peshwa, similar Sarkhel is one such. Savarkar took this forward, many words used today are his such as "vyangachitra" or "mahapour" or "adyayavat".
    4. Savarkar wasn't under house unrest in Ratnagari, he was interned in Ratnagari.
    5. It was Raghunath Rao Bhat who wrote to Nadir Shah, let the boundaries of India and Iran meet as it did historically.

Ahoms are ethnic Chinese from Yunnan who adopted local Bengali culture of Kamrupa which is the real name of Assam.
Chinese invasion and occupation of Kamrupa, the real name of north east aka undivided Assam in circa 1200 AD followed by Burmese invasion and occupation of north east from circa 1400 AD to 1800 AD is not mentioned in any Indian history book.
It is only in circa 1800 AD that north east returned to india after 600 years of Chinese and Burmese occupation when East India Company invaded Burma and annexed it to India.
1938 when the British separated Burma from India, they retained north east with India as it was traditionally a part of India but now with majority population of people of Chinese or Burmese origin who have never accepted themselves as Indians.
This is the crux of insurgencies in North East and why Burma and China have been supporting insurgent groups in north east right from 1947.
So, the war between Ahoms and Mughals was not a Hindu Muslim war but a war between Chinese and Turkic people in India.
No different from the war between British and French or British and Portuguese in India. Real history is stranger than fiction.

The idea that Western/Greek/ Persian chronicles were somehow 'more scientific' is anyways a self-certification! 😂. I was listening to an audiobook about Mongolian history, and while this book was good, in other books so much of slander and filters have been introduced in the telling of Chinggis Khan's history and the history of all the queens of that region because of Christian and Islamic religious beliefs, the geo-political fallouts of constant Mongol invasions and the attitudes towards female conquerors. Entire histories of women rulers have been erased. So the idea that Western historiography is somehow 'scientific' is a self-serving myth.

It is such a shame that without reading his book you made a video on his work. How can one interview on the very subject which he is ignorant about.
Why the hurry. Your whole interview is meaningless if you can't interact with him on his book which is the main cause for this video. Shame really!

What is the proof of Cholas conquering Sri Vijaya, Bengal, Odisha etc??
This claim has to be backed by historical and archeological evidence.
Are there any archeological evidence in Bengal, Odisha, Malaysia and Indonesia which prove Chola occupation of these regions ?
From Afghanistan to Vietnam there used to be a Vedic civilization. This changed after Turkic, Mongol and Chinese invasions in this region.
But Hindu cultural and historical artifacts in South East Asia are predominantly those of the Indo Gangetic belt and not Tamil.
The river Mekong's real name is Maa Ganga.
Similarly the names of places in South East Asia are similar to those of Indo gangetic region not those of southern India.
PS: Ramayana is basically vanquishing of a Southern king Ravan by a north Indian Ram. It is highly unlikely that a Chola from Tamil Nadu where lord Ram is not venerated will spread Ramayana in a foreign country.

Needless to say, you have no evidence for any of these ludicrous allegations. I have read all of his petitions, and in none does he apologize. Instead, he justifies his revolutionary activities. You would be wise to consider that, imprisoned along with him were several other revolutionaries, most in their late teens and early twenties. They had their entire lives ahead of them, and nonetheless elected to pledge their lives to the cause of freedom. They were educated in neither English nor the law. Savarkar, on the other hand, was a qualified lawyer. In his petitions, therefore, he acted as a competent spokesman for other revolutionaries, too. Are you saying that they should not have had a voice? That would be rather heartless of you, would it not? And my usage of that word might further invite the trite allegations of Hindu majoritarianism on my part.
Grow up and actually read, for once. It is known to me that anti-Savarkarites despise reading, but that alone is the panacea to the ills that your likes are ever afflicted with.

There never was any country called India.
India, is a Greek name of the region around Sindhu river which the Greeks pronounced as Indus.
Ironically, today we call this region Pakistan, mortal enemy of India.
The Europeans were searching for a route to south Asia which they called India after the Turks had blocked the silk route from which spice used to flow to the European markets.
This is why various European companies were formed with the name India, a mythical country.
East India Company and not United Kingdom occupied several Kingdoms of South Asia and named the occupied region as India.
In other words, today's India got its name from a company named after a mythical country.
