I am old now, so this song makes more sense than ever! Thank you Harri. nothing better than Chicago as they are the closest thing to "big band music" that we had back then. Such a complete band! Allow me to give a shout out to Toby Keith, may he Rest In Peace and Splendor!
Sang along with it like I did when it came out in the 70's. A timeless nugget that encompasses all that is Chicago. It's like Chicago met Barry White with those strings. This has Imadrummin written all over it. Great song and reaction. Thanks, fellas!
Chicago is so good. I didn't fully appreciate them until I saw them live about 20 years ago and realized how many of their songs I actually knew. Love your reaction to them💕
I absolutely love Chicago. You often forget about their songs that weren’t played as much as some but they’re just as good if not better. Thanks Imadrummin and Harri.
From the 1975 album, Chicago Vlll, this beautiful soul stirring track, reaches nostalgic thoughts and memories, that reminds us of the inherent beauty of treasured memories. The instrumentation is the best with Terry Kath's great guitar licks on the wah-wah guitar, the Hammond organ, the sax, the strings, the trumpet, the drums all producing an incredible arrangement. Then we have Peter Cetera, with the most beautiful vocals that exude pure joy into this mastetpiece.❤ 100 million albums sold, enough said. One of the greatest bands. Great reaction Harri. 💎💎💎 Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
You have been so busy lately! Your journey through the 40s and the Big Bands has been fun. This is another fantastic era. So nice to see you enjoy the journey.❤❤❤
Love old Chicago...one of my go-to bands back in high school and college. Got to see them twice, once with Kath and once without along with the Beach Boys. Drums are going at it in this one as well. Had this group with the band sound and ELO with the orchestra, couldn't go wrong with either, and then a little Moodies and Doobies thrown in as well with some Beatles and Bee Gees.
It was the beginning of the end and a far cry from the previous album. Lamm was burnt out and his days as a songwriter were finished. Next studio album "X" and the success of "If you leave me now" was the final nail in the coffin to their creativity. The Record Label demanded nothing but Fluff going forward and Cetera was happy to oblige. It became his band while the other writing members were too busy self medicating. Kath's frustration with the direction of the band along with personal issues led to his untimely demise. Game over....
@@billiondollarbaby3276 Good points, however, I must say that I found some of the tunes on X and XI to be quite good. I think David Foster was the death of the band myself, with his emphasis on Cetera to the detriment of the others, the use of over the top 80s production, etc. Of course, few bands could have survived at all after the death of such a talent as Terry Kath. It saddens me still....
Sixth grade memories! I loved Chicago VIII so much! I used to sit in class and just write every band member's name to practice my cursive writing. Pankow paints such a vivid pic of "Old Days" and what they were to him. Love this song! ❤
I would have been twelve years old when this song was released, so I really didn't relate to the "old days" that they were singing about, but I loved the song, especially Danny Seraphine's drums. That was almost 50 years ago, making the song all the more relevant to me now. Thx to Imadrummin' and Harri.
Great song! Chicago is such a great band from the 70's-80's. I like their blend of rock & roll with horns, classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Make Me Smile", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 & 68", "Where Do We Go From Here?", "Free", "Lowdown", "Saturday In The Park", "Make Me Smile", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Feelin' Stronger Every Day", etc.
Everything is great about this...including the message! I love the nostalgia! Takes me back to the 1970s! I can relate to it most of it! Another #5 on the Hot-100 smash song by Chicago! It's from 1975.
I love your Chicago reactions can you please do Chicago hard habit to break from Chicago 17 from 1984 it was Chicago biggest album and it was Peter cetera last album too and he was in his prime vocalist at that time ty
Leonid and Friends also does a great cover of this Chicago song. I found it interesting these Russian and Ukrainian folks singing lyrics reminiscing about American culture for kids growing up during the Cold War.
This song is a nostalgic anthem that became a fan favorite. I recommend "Brand New Love Affair, Part I & II" which is another standout track from VIII, an excellent album subtly and seamlessly blending various styles.
We used Chicago's Old Days song as one of our most popular pep-band songs at basketball games. We played several other Chicago songs as marching band songs.
Thanks for all you do Harri. You really help me deal with my depression. Can you please react to the studio album version of Beautiful Goodbye by Amanda Marshall ? And if you already know that one then can you please react to Do What You Have to Do by Sara MacLachan from the live Mirrorball album. Thank you 🙏🥰♥
@@reallymysterious4520 I love Pink Floyd,I think Breathe is my favorite because the lyrics really touch my soul. Are you crying because you're sad,or are you like myself? Some songs make me cry just because they are so beautiful. Like Breathe, Time by Pink Floyd and Time by The Allen Parsons Project, Reminiscing by Little River band,Save a prayer by Duran Duran and My cheri amour by Stevie Wonder to name a few. Just last week I watched a reaction video for Hello by Lionel Richie which I probably haven't heard since the eighties. It made me cry a little. Hey,it just means that you have a soul and feelings. Which I understand is both a blessing and a curse. But it's better than being heartless scum 😁 I never got into drinking, but I've definitely done a shit ton of drugs in my life trying to kill the emotional pain. Guess what,it never really helped. Probably made it worse. I try to stick to just weed now,but occasionally stray to other things. Sorry, not trying to make you read a book. Some people get annoyed at me for saying too much! I hope you get through whatever is hurting your heart. I can definitely relate.
@@garyclark9618You are definitely a very kind soul. I am crying because I am sad and because some songs really move me - such as Great Gig in the Sky, Wish You Were Here, Goodbye Blue Sky and Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd, Ordinary World by Duran Duran, Time for Mercy by Jann Arden, Farewell my Friend by Yanni and so many more
@@reallymysterious4520 Yeah, I really like Ordinary world too. I've played that quite a bit the last couple years. One day my older sister stopped by and heard it playing. My mom said she told her she didn't know that I liked Duran Duran. I was like hell yeah I like Duran Duran! How could I not! I'm not sad right now, but definitely stressed. My poor thirteen year old Jack Russell terrier poodle mix dog seems to have an overgrown claw that's curled around and digging into his leg,but he won't let me really look at it. Been chewing at it for days and I'm afraid it's getting infected. He's my baby boy and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. Well,it's close to midnight where I'm at so I need to wind down and try to go to sleep. I really do hope your sadness will fade away. I know from experience that it's no fun living in perpetual depression. I'm sure judging by the music you like that you are a good person and deserve better. Unfortunately most people don't get what they truly deserve in life, but maybe you'll get lucky. Try to make the best of what you have and try to find something to think about that makes you happy 😁 I know it's not easy, but give it a shot. Take care and have a good night or day, depending on what part of this wacky world you live in. I'm in west central Illinois, which is actually not too bad. For now anyways. Bye.
Hey Imadrummin, it’s been years since I heard this song and had forgotten how great it is. Love Harri’s input. Thanks for requesting and reviewing Imadrummin and Harri 🌺✌️
This song is from their eighth album (aptly called Chicago XIII) from 1975. Next year it will be *50* years old! So hard to believe. Lots of great music performed by this band both before and since this came out. They just celebrated 57 years as a band together yesterday and still have three of the seven original members. Pretty darn amazing! I'll be turning 60 this year and it's been incredible having this band in my life for all intents and purposes my entire life. I expect that they'll finally call it quits within the next few years, maybe once they hit the 60 year milestone. It'll be a sad day once that happens, but they've given the world so much great music that will live on for many generations to come.
Isn't it great to remember the first album you ever bought? Probably better than remembering your first kiss! Music is way more fulfilling to the soul. Mine was Journey Frontiers. I loved it 😍
Their CHICAGO VIII album was not well-received, but all these years later it is a fine effort from the group. Many different styles, all performed solidly. This is such a great blend of brass, rock guitar, and drums. Where all the singers join in around 3:26 is a magical moment.
That album, 8 the great, was a great album. I remember taking out the transfer (basically the album cover) and pressing it onto a tee shirt. There are other nice songs on that album, including Harry Truman.
First time I heard ANYONE on any reaction mention Danny Seraphine. I find his drumming super-clean and loaded with captivating fills. I've watched recent videos of Chicago, with their new drummer, and it leaves me dry.
@@christopheryochum3602 I was lucky enough to see them with Danny on drums. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Same with Boston and Brad Delp singing.

chicago was my 1st ever concert(1973) looooooved them even before that but after Kath stupidly shot himself they just weren't ever the same again for me....sadly.
You could basically call this their last “great” hit. Their next big hit after this was the almost unbearably sappy “If You Leave Me Now,” and that was basically the beginning of the end. Then their guitarist/co-lead vocalist, Terry Kath, accidentally fatally shot himself just one album and a year-and-a-half later, and the band has never been the same since.
