    Love this format you're doing - the walking, the photo, sharing your thoughts about the creative process. As a beginner "street photographer" I find this fascinating and valuable. Many thanks!

    Our club was doing this for a topic last month it has a name Picception. It was great fun to do and we also got some wonderful effects.

    It's amazing how you took great pics so effortlessly.
    Between the warm or cooler version, I find myself liking the warm version just a bit more.

      thanks, i took millions (probably) of pictures and in the end you can just see shots pretty fast i think, although the street photography is pretty new to me so im working out what i like still, thanks for the comment.

    Just goes to show that if you follow your own taste faithfully without over-thinking it, you'll produce something that will have lasting appeal, obviously to yourself, but also to people with similar leanings. Good stuff !

    Great photos. The EP1 sensor has a certain particularity and offers a saturated image and its black and white is also very attractive. I have an EP1 that I combine with a M.Zuiko 17mm 1.8 (silver color), resulting in a very attractive combination (it looks very aesthetic) and perfect for street photography. Although I have an EPL7, an M5 MarkII and an OM5, I sometimes like to continue shooting with the EP1 because I think it offers different tones and color saturation than the later 16 and 20 megapixel sensors.

    The Olympus E-P3 was the last Olympus mirrorless camera to use a Panasonic sensor.

      I have a Panasonic gf1 that renders colors like this ep3 and the ep1. Now I know why.
      Something special about the older sensors. Gf1 also produces very filmlike raw images.

    Stunning pictures Martin I love my street photography and using layers, especially with reflections in windows. Just my personal opinion but I think the warmer tones work better, but you know what they say about opinions every asshole has one.

    Hi Martin.
    My favourite image is the staircase with the numbers reflected in the glass with those gorgeous tones resulting from the settings you chose. It's impossible to just glance at it. You have to give it time and exam the contents.
    Your commentary about why you took pictures at this wonderful location full of juxtoposing shapes, styles, and eras of architecture should inspire others to get out there and take photographs.
    I felt the warm tones of the picture containing the metallic artwork beckoned me into the environment, and it's surroundings, more so than the version with the cool tones (It would be interesting to see a b&w version shot early in the morning. André Kertész comes to mind).
    Sending good vibes and have an enjoyable start to your week.

    Great video pal, and fab street shots. The answer to your question regarding the temperature in the photo, definitely the cool one works the best for me, as the details look more pronounced and clinical 👍

    I took some of my favourite photos with this camera and the 20mm Lumix pancake. Sold it. Eventually regretted it and bought the Epl-5 and 20mm pancake again this year, to compliment my 6D. Didn't know until this video about the EP3 using this particular sensor and makes sense now, seeing the photos I'm taking with the combo I now have. They're not worse, just different.

    Warmer and colder temperates. That is something I've been trying to figure out since I started shooting photos. Changing the temperature from warm to cold and vice versa completely changes the mood of the photo. But I find that isn't a problem in most cases. It's the inability to choose which one I like more. Which one I want to show to people. I often go with the one that shows better how my eyes saw it first. So, in the case of your photo, the warmer one.
    The creative part of this is one of the hardest parts I find in digital photography. An option to create many many versions of the same image with slight variations where each could turn out amazing...

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Рік тому +1

      the creative part is always the hardest, the cameras are easy to use and can be mastered in a few weeks. the creative side is the constant battle and the only way is to do lots of it.

    I think that the warmer version of the sculpture image works better as a whole because the sculpture itself gets more attention, though I prefer the colours in the colder version, maybe bump up the exposure (and maybe a little contrast increase) a notch on the sculpture and surrounding "car obstacles" (don't know the proper english word) to draw a bit more focus to those elements in the colder version.

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Рік тому +1

      yeah i think your editing comments are correct on the cooler one, i didnt do any additional editing as i wasnt sure and just wanted to see the reaction to the overall look, but for sure the cooler tone needs more work.

    Re: mid range MFT zooms. The Olympus 12-40 2.8 is amazing and it has a focus clutch. It might be unbalanced on that EP3 so if that’s too chunky the Panasonic 12-35 2.8 (ver 1 & 2) are smaller.

    • @kimc5750
      @kimc5750 Рік тому +1

      Great suggestion, I use my12-40 on my E-P5 frequently, its not too bulky imho. It has really dropped in price of late as well.

    Thanks, Martin. I'll see what I can manage at night, or near nightfall, around Belper and Derby with my Olympus E-P3 with a left-over E-PL1 kit zoom, the former of which was...wait for it!...£1.00 in a bargain box at my local London Camera Exchange. Like many commenting I'm both ways with that warm or cold image. Overall, the latter looked better, but there was perhaps too much going on to concentrate on the details, where the former shaded it.

    That is an excellent video. I prefer the warmer version of the one with the sculpture. The choices in editing were excellent. I wonder if you prefer fewer people and emphasizing them less because you desire the architecture and look of the light on that as the most important subject and consequently the people are a distraction from the things you want to emphasize. I would agree with that choice in the setting you were in. It is a rich environment. Your photos were all excellent, your discussion and thoughts most intelligent and useful and you can go back again and again, and things will look a bit different each time. I have one tree I have been shooting for years.
    Best wishes. Really good work. God bless!

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Рік тому +1

      Thanks John! yeah i think you are right that i like the architecture side more than the people, i think thats just me and im trying to focus on just doing what comes naturally to me and photograph what i feel genuinely interested in. Im still working out my style and what i like with street photography as ive hardly ever done any of it so im just working instinctively at the moment. I agree with you shooting the same tree for years, why not, things change over time as you say and you that need to photograph it again.

    Seems to me that, like myself, you’re a bit of a Bauhaus boy.!! Clean lines and shapes lit to show the use of materials such as glass, concrete, and steel .. very design led structures .. London is full of buildings in this style and artistic movement.. Boss work as usual.. think all your images are keepers to be fair..!!!

    Nice video, some very interesting shots in there. I’ve been meaning to ask you what’s your opinion on smaller APSC or M43 cameras for walking around the city.. I have a Canon M50 for this purpose but would like to know what you think of those kind of sensors and overall smaller package with relatively great quality.

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Рік тому +2

      i really like that they are small and makes me feel like a non-pro again, i enjoy that feeling and feeling like a tourist, the quality is fine except low light could be a bit better on the m43 but this camera is really old, i dont even really care though they are good just use these cameras and dont worry.

    Hi Martin
    I think you said that you were in M mode, auto ISO, f1.8, 1/80s, -0.7ev (hope I heard correctly). But with the E-P3, there is no EC available with these setting, as far as I can see. I don’t think this option came in until much later. If the ISO is set to a value, then you can obviously adjust the A or SS to get the underexposure, but no floating ISO. However, there is a work around that I read about, ISO bracketing: the camera takes only one exposure but outputs three files, (+1, O, -1), simple, but takes a little longer to store them to the card.

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  Рік тому

      ive been thinking about this, i need to change lens first i want to use probably a 24-70 or equivalent but i will probably mostly use the 6d for this with a 24-70

    I’m tending toward your warmer settings. I love the compositions! I’ve been studying Saul Leiter for his reflective work.
    Since you like the E-P3 I think you may really like an E-M1.1 if you move to a 12-40mm f2.8 PRO zoom. I commented about the E-M1 to you before, but now that you’re thinking about a zoom this lens would balance better on the E-M1.
    An excellent condition body can be had for around £280.
    I really like your laid back delivery style BTW.
