    one thing I would check for sure, put the tractor on a level flat surface make sure the loader and 3 point make contact with the ground evenly, so you know it hasn't been twisted in one way or another, same for the axel spacing front to back, side to side and corner to corner basic alignment cause it is hard to know how forceful one may have used it or over loaded it, it is also much better if they have a service record for said machine, which honestly any owner should keep anyways

    Very good video, and I like that you stressed the point again of the legalities of buying a product, whether it has been stolen or may have a lean.
    I remember your video about the problem you had with the tractor you had bought at an auction, and at that time I was shocked. I had believed any auction would safe guard against such things, and have been extremely careful with any purchases I have made since then. Yes, it did save me once that I was over cautious, it seemed too good to be true, and shortly after I found out the person was charged with theft of that product. After that I have been even more cautious.
    Just recently, not too far away a women bought a car from a residence. The gentleman passed away, and the vehicle was advertised on FB. She went, it was a good deal, bought it, they gave her the title, the next week, she was pulled over because of a problem with the plate and vehicle not matching. When the police ran the VIN, it had been stolen and they forged the transfer of the title, even sold it out of the deceased mans home. Of course she was shocked that anyone could possibly do that to anyone, and is having to defend herself in this as she is in possession of it. Luckily she has the texts, and FB messages of the transaction to cover her, but more than likely will never recoup the money she is out.

    No problem with the content today. I think something you could add is that the buyer should be comfortable with the amount of work they will need to do. I bought a project tractor, Kubota BX 1500, that needed major repairs with the engine. Half of the engine was missing. No parts, just a lower end and that's it. It did come with a mower deck, but no loader. So, I thought about what I would use it for, and how much my skill level would match the project. It was a little stretch, but today it's running with a new-used engine and I'm working on putting it back to better than it was originally. I'm adding hydraulics to use a snowblower and sweeper\thatcher.
    It's what I want it to be. I have spent a fair amount of money, but I don't think I've exceeded the value in usefulness. I remember this guy on the internet who bought a little tractor and said it was just right for those little jobs where big tractors just wouldn't fit. I have two larger tractors, and they both have their jobs to do, but this tractor just fits. 😉 God Bless and keep doing what you do.

    Enjoyed the video and the comments about possible issues with a private sale, ie; whether the tractor is stolen or has a lien on it, etc.... I was looking to buy a zero turn mower recently in a private sale when I ran into a possible scam. Too many things didn't add up and I smelled a scam, so that's when I started looking into a tractor like the 1025R. My brother had bought one several years ago and it made sense with all the things he could do with it besides mowing his yard and property. So, that's kind of where I'm looking now. Thanks for the advice and I'll be watching more of your videos.

    I’ve been noticing some good deals recently on very capable tractors. For example a used 2019 Yanmar YT359 ROPS with 500hrs for $27K still with 6 years of power train warranty left. That’s a 60hp premium tractor for less than a new 1025R. Also saw a 2020 Kioti DK5310SE Cab with 200hrs and a 6ft mower for $32K. You’re right the used tractor market has leveled off. Might go used for my next tractor if buying new continues to be so expensive.

    Very good video for the novice owner. I own a heavy equipment company primarily engaged in highway, road and bridge construction. My equipment, 32 units, range from the smallest ( B26 Kubota BHL ) to the massive ( Cat 395 excavator ). I buy virtually every piece used at auction saving literally millions of dollars over the years. Depreciation is always the buyers advantage, the sellers pain. I follow two simple rules. First, I hire an independent inspector for the pieces I’m interested in. For $1000, sometimes more depending on the complexity of the equipment, I get a thorough, expert inspection. I know exactly what is good, bad or indifferent. Secondly, I know the market and never up bid over what is reasonable. There will always be others and I never buy out of desperation or impulse.
    For a tiny subcompact tractor, it only makes sense to buy used. The spread between new and used is often 50% or more. Buying direct from the owner is of course an option, given that they will allow the inspection and hopefully have all the service logs.
    For the novice, unless you plan to use the tractor .. no matter the size, on a weekly if not daily basis tackling jobs that normally would be contracted out, skip buying and rent. Much less painful in the long run.

    New prices just keep going up. 1/2 ton pick up, just your basic "work" truck listing for 40 grand +. A 1 ton you can do something with 80 grand to 110 grand for the fancy ones. It's insane. I just bought a 940 hour JD 850 1980 model made by Yanmar (love Yanmars) for $5140.00 and it was a deal. Internet shows same tractor at $7500.00 to $11,000.00. 5 years ago that tractor would have been $3000.00....

  • @ricksanchez7459

    Prices will probably trend down but not return to "normal" on used stuff. Probably settle at the typical 80% of new price. And new stuff is definitely not getting cheaper any time soon. I believe people bought subcompacts and compacts only did so because they have bought a home and acreage. Most of whom are probably semi-retired or settled in their career. Those units won't be resold unless the owners run into health problems or this nonrecession recession gets way worse.

Prices sure have jumped. Similar with pallet forks the set I picked up at the dealer was under $600 in 2019 now I’m told by other looking for a set can’t touch em for under a $1,000

  • @Platinum1812
    @Platinum1812 Рік тому +4

    Don't expect used prices to remain constant much longer, that's my two cents anyway, the new price increases will drive up used before long. The truth is these tractors have a lot of life left at 1000 hours. Or even 2000. It is a real piece of heavy equipment just a very small one, and most all the late model ones have at most a few hundred hours which means they are really almost new. Not saying nothing could be wrong on one, obviously.
    Also, I think 50k will be the going rate in terms of value in 10 years. Demographic changes in the US and the lack of work ethic has prices for capital goods slated to double or triple over 10 years. 50k in today's dollars to be clear. The worth of equipment will go up, not just the inflated dollar price.

My concern on both of those are parts in the long haul and resale. However, a lot of people will probably buy them due to their new price of 19,500 on the Summit when it is already equipped with 3rd function, a rear hydraulic port, Rim Guard loaded rear tires, a custom seat and a self leveling loader.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  5 місяців тому

      I get what you are saying, but I think you are jumping to false conclusions. I think this is a very unique situation.
      There was a huge ‘fad’ towards gardening and homesteading during covid …2020, 2021,etc. combined with the government payments, this resulted in an enormous number of tractor sales. The biggest numbers were 1025r’s…folks getting their first tractor ever.
      Fast forward to now.
      Inflation has taken a huge bite out of discretionary income. …and discretionary income (play money) is what funds these small tractors…not agriculture, or other profitable endeavors.
      So, new potential buyers cannot afford to purchase.
      …and current owners cannot afford to continue making the payments ….from the zero percent financing deals.
      So, supply of used tractors is increasing due to folks selling to get out from payments, while demand is decreasing since others cannot afford to buy.
      We do NOT hear folks complaining about reliability OR function. The only complaints are financial.
      That is my take….others may have a different opinion.

    Okay, Tractor Tim, it's time to tell the real truth about the John Deere. Yanmar tractors are going to be taken over pretty nice piece of equipment and a lot of times they're priced. A third less than what the John Deere's are sometimes even up to half. So John Deere's are Getting a little pricey. P.S. COVID money spoiled them.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  8 місяців тому

      I’m not sure what ‘truth’ I avoided. Significant differences between Yanmar and Deere tractors. Engine and front axle is about the only thing the same.
      Transaxle is different. (Even though 50/50 joint venture Deere/Yanmar)c Yanmar tractors do not use that transaxle.
      I think I was pretty straightforward about the pricing in this episode. There is another auction video (from December) which goes into more detail.

    The used market is starting to come back down to earth after the astronomical price increases that occurred during and after the pandemic. While the used market is coming back to earth, the new tractor market is still on a steady rise. What once was a $20k tractor is now costing $30-35k.

    A friend has got information on a “free tractor” in up state New York. Story is that a deceased farmer requested that the machine be given away to a deserving cause. You only need to pay for shipping. He got pictures via email of a Kubota 3 series with a loader. Shipping cost would be around $2,000. The lead came from a local John Deere dealership. He was encouraged to make up his mind quickly and pre pay for shipping. He didn’t fall for the scam.

    I'm looking at to purchase a Kubota 2200 $5,500. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. 800 hours on it. Drove it for about 10 minutes, and everything seemed normal for the condition it was in. The only issue that I noticed the pedal seemed to stick a little bit. But other then that seemed pretty solid. No leaks or anything like that. Looks pretty clean not beat up. Going to have a more experienced guy take another look at it when I pick it up.
    I also looked at a John Deere 650. Unfortunately, it looked like they spray painted the engine, the belt was frayed and painted green, the coolant resivor was Jerry rigged. Even though it looked and ran good there was little warning signs.

    Great video, and sound advice. I was all set to buy new, package from either Deere or Mahindra. Am fortunate that am very close to three good dealers of Red/Green/ Orange. But I ended up buying from a private party, a 2019 Mahindra with 120 hours, loader, belly mower, titan forks, rotary cutter, post hole digger, tiller and seeder for 16K, all same age. The caveat was an electrical issue, that the owner got frustrated with his dealer on. Long story short the local dealer verified serial number, checked ownership through the dealer he had bought from, always check to your point Sir. Owner had Stored inside but found out through the dealer when this was new sat on the lot outside for an extended time… moisture had gotten in the loom. To your point, first time new to tractors should walk away labor at the dealer is ave 120/hr, but am fortunate with mechanical skills was able to diagnose and find the issue, corroded connections…a little rewire, GTG, great running little tractor. Little long story, but these types of videos are educational/entertaining and of value to folks like me, imo.
