Judo is such a practical martial art that it makes kudo attractive just because of it. Take a martial art and add judo techniques to it, and it suddenly becomes interesting and more realistic. So, Kudo is a martial art I would have loved to learn. Certainly, I'd recommend kudo, only second to judo, for a boy to practice self defense. Good video, Chadi.

I think the helmet ruins any boxing skill, you cannot defend the head in it and nobody even bothers.Youd need to do regular kickboxing sparring for that.Kudo is good for teaching all out attack mentality.

@@scarred10 you’re forgetting about bare knuckle vs wraps and gloves. The knuckle/wrist conditioning as well as the way hands are positioned when punching in karate is realistic for a fight. I had a wrist injury so I trained with my left wrapped for 6 months and when I took it off, that side was significantly weaker and I couldn’t hit the makiwara or bag hard for a while without my wrist buckling.
Not trying to argue and say “I’m right and your wrong”, but just sharing another way of looking at the pros cons 👍

Great thanks for the video. I think, it`s a big thing in kudo - classical gi + gloves with open fingers. All this make good posabilities for making takedowns. If judo as a stile need sport "combat" competitions (as combat SAMBO for example), it must be something like kudo.

This was a montage of ouches. I think the momentum of the strikes really makes the throws so much more powerful. While it’s not the art Aikido, I think it may well be the principle of “aiki,” which is really hard to train for in arts like Judo. It’s not impossible, of course, but the windows of overextension tend to come in much smaller bursts whereas in Kudo it seems like you can really lure the opponent into a flurry of swings and use that to your advantage.. not that you’d want to be on the receiving end of any of those.

The only thing I don't like much about kudo, is the helmet. It's big and a lot heavyier than a boxing / kickboxing helmet. The weight and the size makes it difficult to qickly slip punches. The other thing is the plexyglass visor, it may be good to protect the eyes against toenails (with kicks) and fingers in the eyes, but it makes it harder to breath, makes the head extremely hot, and has a tendency to be covered in fog and condensation. Plus, the official kudo helmet is expensive, nearly as expensive as the far superior quality boxing helmets from Winning, or more expensive than the better Yoseikan-budo helmets.
anyway, Kudo is a great art, and this was a great video, thanks !

As a Judoka learning Karate it took a while to apply throws i knew very well...
The maai and kuzushi were different and the fact I needed to add in kick, punch and throw etc made it a new skill to learn. Also kumi kata is restricted in my experience.
Anyway if you get the chance to study with a good Karate sensei as an alternative to Kudo. You can mix Judo and Karate with your own efforts.

Nobody can take full kick to the head and they shouldn't be in sparring.
Kyokushin has no head punching, that's why they dont need a helmet. The helmet allows you to test yourself and techs full force without restrictions without the risk of broken face bones and cuts and bruises.
