  • In this first video I did an upgrade to my sound system from my 2022 Ford Maverick XLT with the FX4 package. Install the JBL Components Speaker in the front and 4inch JBL Two way speakers in the back with the new 10 inch Kicker Hideaway Subwoofer. I kept the stock radio so I can continue using all of its features. This is the first of many videos I will be posting about my new truck. Just added a new video talking about how to connect the remote wire from the woofer amp to the rear speakers instead of connecting it to the fuse box. The reason for this was that the battery charge was drained over time. Click the link in the description box to watch that new video. I hope this works for all of you. Thanks you all for your support and comments!

    FYI to anybody working on their own, you don’t need to remove the stereo head unit itself, you can just pull out the ac control unit without removing anything above it

    • @RaffiRed
      @RaffiRed  2 роки тому +5

      That is true, you don't need to remove anything from the the head unit.

    As a professional installer I would rate this install a 5/10. Lots of issues here. I just did basically the same spread of gear in one of these today. For the love of god, this truck already has factory tweeter locations, please put the new ones where they belong! I could see he had one exposed, you just have to press a couple tabs and they pop right out. Also no need to remove the radio at all, just get the audio signal from the rear speakers while you change them. Also no need for a remote wire at all when your sub/amp combo is signal sensing. The rear speakers should also have been sealed to the panel, that big gap is doing them no favors. As well the power wire should go through the rubber grommet not around it! The last thing is the sub needs to be mounted solid for proper bass, not floating in space. These are the most crucial issues I see. One other tip, if you are changing front components and the factory tweeter is not in the door but on the dash, get speakers with separate crossovers. It will make your life much easier. For example Alpine R Type. 6.5.

    • @alexestrada7528
      @alexestrada7528 2 роки тому

      Hi Marcus. I found the Alpine R-S65.2 (coax) And the component R-S65C.2. Which one do you recommend for the Maverick? If using components, do I use the existing wiring in the dash with the included xover? Also, you mentioned feeding the sub with the 4" rear signal. Is this full range to get proper bass? Thx!

    • @koreykreiter304
      @koreykreiter304 Рік тому +1

      I don't think tapping the rear speakers is a great idea. I highly doubt they have a full-range signal. I'm sure the bass is filtered. It would be best to tap the front door speakers. Also, the stock tweeter location is crap. I hate the sound of highs bouncing off the windshield. That's just my taste. I would never cut large holes in the door panel either. I unplugged my OE tweets, and installed decent coaxials in the doors. I agree with everything else you said.

    Appreciate the video. But those magnets are smaller because they're neodymium- which is much stronger than ferrite. Side note: the stock system isn't trash. It actually measures very well. It just doesn't have any low end without a sub and may not be as loud as some would like. But just swapping speakers (that are likely less sensitive than the OEM) isn't going to help with output.
    My advice to anyone wanting to upgrade is to just add a sub first. A speaker swap without adding amplification isn't going to address whatever issue you have with the stock system.

    • @Florida_Man_Film
      @Florida_Man_Film Рік тому

      Nah I replaced the door speakers and there is much more mid and low bass then what the stock has. Way worth it to replace even just the door speakers

    Nice work. I always spend $100 and add dynamat to the sheet metal behind the speakers. It really helps with the acoustics and makes the vehicle a little quieter. Great work. I tap my amp remote at the fuse box. People will be looking at this vid for decades, lol.

    At the 28:08 mark on the video, we can see that the power wire is being pinched between the rubber bulkhead plug and the metal that the plug rests on. The metal will eventually wear through the insulation and the wire will short out and blow the fuse. You should have run the wire through the rubber plug by cutting an X into it, then run the fused wire through the cut X, and then put a little bit of RTV over the cuts to weatherproof it. Or cut the wire and run it through a small hole you make in the bulkhead plug then reconnect the wire once it's routed near the battery. Other than that, this is a great tutorial video. Thank you for posting it.

      I just used a drill bit slightly smaller than my power wire, taped the drill bit to the power wire, then reached from inside the engine compartment and pulled the drill bit (and wire) through…. As snug a fit as you can get

      I wasn't a fan of speaker wire as a power wire for remote either nor duct tape on the splices... but meh. Not my truck. I like the choice of speakers and seeing how to get at everything. I'm still waiting on my hybrid xlt. The battery is actually under the seat so that part will be easy.

    Thank you for taking the time to make a video, you did an alright job on the install but there are a few things you did that i wouldn't recommend. (1) Duct tape makes it look like a horrible hack job, and please don't tell me the wires are just twisted together under the duct tape as well. (2) Clip on wire splicers should never be used on anything ever, they are trash. (3) The power wire for your sub going through the fire wall beside the grommet makes no sense, that will eventually rub through on the metal and ground out you should really just poke a small hole in the grommet and run the wire through the rubber that way its protected from grounding out. (4) Shoving the amp remote turn on wire into a fuse slot is terrible wiring practice (which i see your updated comment this has been changed but only because it was a constant hot power). There is also a factory sub location for the B&O system I would have checked to see if there was any amp remote wiring etc for that to use in the back. I'm not trying to bash you at all I'm just thinking about people with less skill trying to do the install with some bad practice suggested it could cause damage to the electrical system and sound system connection issues later when things rattle loose etc...

    Hey Raffi, thanks for the inspiration. Although your post is 1 year old, I'm sure many new Mav owners will be looking to improve the sound system. Just wanted all to know that if your looking to put the Kicker sub behind the seat, it won't fit in the location you used if you have a power back window. There is a motor for the window in that location. I installed it under the driver seat. 😉

    Thanks for the video-very informative. You mentioned that the amp doesn’t turn off? That unit has DC offset. The system will sense the current coming through the speaker leads on on the high level input. There should be no need to wire a 12v remote wire. Try disconnecting the 12v remote wire and flip the turn-on switch in the amp from 12v to DC. The amp may stay on for a minute or so when you shut off the truck but it will turn off when the truck powers down completely.

    I am not a audiophile but I wonder if the new tweeters are getting enough signal. There is probably a cross over somewhere up stream that is pushing the high frequencies to the stock tweeters on the top of the dash. The speaker wires going to the 6.5’s on the door most likely only carry lower frequencies. I could be wrong so please correct me if I am. I am looking at PowerBass OE65C-FD front speakers because they are pretty much plug and play and would be a better match to the low power output of the stock system. They also use the factory crossover.

    Is the sub you used placed where the optional factory B&O subwoofer originally goes? How much did it cost to do this? I think if I don't end up getting the Maverick with B&O I will just add a subwoofer like yours to give some bump. I plan on getting the XLT with Luxury package but you can't get the B&O unless you get the Lariat with luxury package. I have heard the B&O in the Maverick and it's an amazing sounding system! It's very clear and has lots of thump. I think it's the best sounding system I have heard in a Ford, I think it's due to the cabin design and where the speakers are placed.

    Thank you for your very detailed work. Nice t know what clips, etc. to look for. Just curious, has anyone looked into the stock Ford subwoofer, and would there be a factory connector for it? I doubt Ford would have different wiring harnesses for every model, but I could be wrong. And being a factory part, the price might be outlandish anyway.

    • @RaffiRed
      @RaffiRed  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. I love reggaeton and spanish trap too and love the bass as well. You can replace the speakers only but it won’t give you the bass you might be looking for, but with that upgrade it should be pretty good. However, if you feel you need more bass you know that dembow drop then you might need to upgrade and add a subwoofer.

    Thanks for your video, very helpful! Question- I’m planning to install a coaxial 6.5 inch speakers instead of component. Do you think the tweeter mounted on the coaxial speaker would fit without touching the door grill, or would I need to drill a hole in the grill so that the tweeter can pop through a little bit?

    • @RaffiRed
      @RaffiRed  Рік тому +2

      If I remember correctly the space on the door panels was not enough to put a coaxial speaker. But try to put it together outside and see how it fits and if it does then put on. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for the comment and I am glad the video helped you out.

      Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciated a lot. I will be doing a video soon about sound test and how everything came out. Stay tuned and subscribe to know when I post that video. It should be this week soon. The cost of this is could be around $400-$600 installation not including the speakers and woofer. That is what I was quoted one time I took it to a place that install music. That way doing it on my own it was much better, not only to save money but to make sure no one messed up anything or damage anything or do a poor job at it. It felt pretty and satisfying doing it on my own to my own truck.
