  • The crowd was cheering loudly when dual cups winner, Master Mood, surged past Alpine Fella with 450 metres to run, and didn't stop cheering until well after the horses had pulled up. Master Mood was set alight by Kevin Williams with 1300 metres of the journey left and was up measuring strides with the pacemaking Alpine Fella around the showgrounds turn. Master Mood went to the line untested and ran a 1:58.8 closing mile. Luxury Liner flew home late to take 2nd from Lord Louie with Australian visitor Pala Royal next home.

    I used to hate having to choose between Master Mood and Luxury Liner as a kid. Inky Lord and Skipper Dale were other favourites in that era.
