Thanks for posting. I've had my 2003 John Deere 790 since 2018 and it had 1000 hours on it when I got it. Now, 200 hours and five years later, I have this gear problem that your video addresses. I am going to dig into it. Wish me success.
Thank you. I'm hearing a significant clunk in the left front wheel assembly of my JD 790 when in 4-wheel drive. Don't know if I'm man enough to dig in there, but I use my tractor every day, so a fix is needed.
Is the pin gear always suppose to spin freely ? My front 4wd is grinding. Gears look like they have been grinding but gears ok. Pin gear does not spin when i try to move it

This known issue finally caught up with me in 2020. I'm wondering if the repair is worth it or should I trade up to a 3005 that fixed the design flaw.
I believe you should keep it, but keep your eys on the 4WD, and dont use it all the time. I am happy with it.
There is another gear up there, was so long ago I don't remember how I did it
OK Cool, thanks for your reply

I think you need to dis engage rge 4WD lever on the tractor in order to get it freely turn
how did you get the shaft back up in there? I'm having trouble. looks like another gear moved blocking the whole where the shaft goes up into.
I think I had to assemble the outer assembly before bolting it back to the axle
They’re always breaking on me.... they need to make it more heavy duty....😩
I suggest you sell it as fast as you get it together , cause it will break again ...that was a piss poor design on john deeres part
I wonder if you could put another different type of differential on it ..... like from a kubota more heavy duty
Where’s your design?
