Hi If 5x = 2y then x : y is 2 : 5 ... This is because if we divide 5x = 2y by 5, we get x = 2/5y .... so we can write x : y as (x : y) 2/5 y : y (because x is 2/5 of y) And then divide both sides of the ratio by y to give (x : y) 2/5 : 1 If I then multiply both sides by 5 (x : y) 2 : 5 Quite complicated!
Hi - it's 6 x -20 ... to factorise the equation. Here's a playlist with some other examples, and hope it helps: ua-cam.com/play/PLPglScc3TJ-Ov7F1_VRLUQ7Ecf5PrQ-T3.html. All very best S :-)
hi sir why does the vales at the end switch around to make the ratio?
Because imagine it as a fraction
X/Y = -4/3 and if you cross multiply you get -4y = 3x
if x = 1/2y then 2 x's go into y so it'd be 2:1
Hi
If 5x = 2y
then x : y
is 2 : 5 ...
This is because if we divide 5x = 2y by 5,
we get x = 2/5y
.... so we can write x : y as
(x : y)
2/5 y : y (because x is 2/5 of y)
And then divide both sides of the ratio by y to give
(x : y)
2/5 : 1
If I then multiply both sides by 5
(x : y)
2 : 5
Quite complicated!
wait are these predicted questjons for edexcel? which exam board
Hi - I think this one came from Edexcel, although I've seen very similar in AQA ... All best S :-)
Hi Where does the 120 come from?

Hi, I hadn't seen these, that explains it - thanks for your reply
