I actually like the roots grabbing the mulch. The only real issue is when you have wood chips. But if you feed ur trees the mulch is a non issue. Those surface roots are feeder roots. Its worst if the sun cooks them
I mulch them all but only use pine bark mulch. Read up on it alot and bark is better for plants because it has more nutrient value. If everything I read is true😂
@@sweetfigs1 it believe it’s like mixing mulch into garden soil, can’t explain the science but apparently it’s a no no but I’ve changed my mind I’m going ro mulch because the pots are drying out fast. Just need to try another mulch or sift the fine particles
Did you list the varieties you've chosen for your in-ground or potted varieties? I've got around 50 right now but I'm cutting down to 20 next spring. It's gonna be a brutal cull.
@@paulm965 lol In ground chose White Madeira #1, black Tuscan, i258, aubique petit, saint rita, lsu tiger, black Celeste, smith, lsu strawberry, and borjissot Blanca negra Those are also in containers plus blue Celeste, borjissot gris, a striped fig that hasn’t produced, consellera negra, lsu thibodeaux, lsu gold

@@Batchat2352 thanks ya your right, the sun is cooking and drying out the pot. mulch is the way to go. I’m going to sift it or try something else

why does the nitrogen is stolen if the roots grow into the mulch?

@@cjolly259 Cool. I have a few of those. A local grower here in AZ named BBN as his favorite. Totally different climate--figs are amazingly adaptable.
