Don't ever kid yourself, Travis !!! We are all jealous that we aren't there slurping &eating the watermelon with you & Titus... That's the Best part of gardening ~ sampling with your kids!! 😂❤❤❤❤
Never waited to find out if they got sweeter in storage! My birthday week is now, my mom used to use a frosting tube and write Happy Birthday and stick candles on a watermelon instead of cake.
What a time to be alive , tasting all those melons. Some of my best times with the kids in the garden are tasting melons. My daughter brags about being able to just eat the “hearts” out of our melons and chunking the rest. Gonna try my hand at some seedless varieties next year. Thanks for all the tips through out the years Travis
You can place extra watermelons in a cool dark area and they will go dormant and after all the melons in the field are long gone you can eat watermelons for weeks after harvest just by ,etting them go dormant.
A local produce market is selling Cracker Jack seedless watermelons from Georgia and they are definitely a hit from what I’m hearing! After your brix testing I’m definitely buying one now!
That's the cutest, bestest watermelon taster I ever did see!! I love it when the babies get involved. All are precious but sweet TyTy always seems to come up with a good one-liner or two. 🤣 Thanks for sharing and bringing in the professional for us. God bless you all. ~Lisa
I have a couple watermelons growing now. Sugar baby watermelon. It's my first time growing them. We had a lot of rain this year so we will see in the next couple weeks how they taste. Great video Thanks
I have a few hundred pounds of watermelon in the house and many more to come. Too afraid something will get them outside. It’s my first big watermelon harvest. Tailgate and tropical sunshine were my seedless and a bunch of seeded. I had the same deal with all the rain. Lost a few but I’ve been eating huge amounts of watermelons. Thanks for getting me hooked on growing watermelons. I started growing them after watching your old hoss videos but didn’t get serious until I saw your videos with Titus. It’s been a lot of fun. Thank you. I know I’ll end up with a darn brick tester because of you. Smh.
Oh my I'm going to have to buy some watermelon at the farmers market...😮when they are ready on our Michigan summer ☀️ I'd be slurping too with the tasty juiciest watermelon
I have a couple growing that is taking to long to sise up and got ripe, so I bought one at the local farmers market and it is the best watermelon I've had in a very long time. I saved seeds from it and hoping it isn't a hybrid and breeds true to the one I'm still eating on. It probably weighed 20 lbs. I also bought a yellow meat watermelon and it wasn't good as it had gone past the perfect ripeness. You can't beat a perfectly ripe yellow melon, but my hybrid yellow vines never put on the first female flower, I won't be planting that one again and I really fed them with the Agrothrive fruit and flower.
Hey Travis I think all the moisture you have had has made the melon’s not as sweet. The dryer the season the sweeter the melons. Great video, I live in New Mexico And got my watermelons in the ground late hope I’ll get one or two this season. Titus is sure growing up fast. Blessings to you and the family.
I've never noticed that stored watermelons are sweeter. What I have noticed is they taste better cold or at least chilled. A sweeter watermelon isn't always the best tasting watermelon. Travis just proved that point. For Travis' information, sweeter cantaloupes don't always have the best flavor as well. There's more to flavor than sweetness.
My observation is melons are like Tomatoes. If you pick them too early they won't ripen correctly. If you pick them at an appropriate time they will ripen slightly more. That is why I often don't cut open knew melon shipments in a store.
I almost choked on my watermelon when you ate that bad one. My CrackerJack was a 9.5 but it was the first off the plant maybe the next one will be sweeter.
Not really video related, but can you tell me what brand/model is the pocket knife you are using?! Never mind, I watched the video again and saw that it’s a bugout. It looked bigger than a bugout on video. I love watching your videos with your son! My kids are grown am bd live too far away to spend much time with the grand kids. I miss those days!
What caused the "Skunked Watermelon"? Until this year we ate them up to quick to test it, but this year we planted a lot of watermelons. So, I will do some taste testing to see if I think they get sweeter over time. This year my favorite kind we have grown is the Mountain Sweet Yellow. Have you tried it before?
@@LazyDogFarm that makes sense. I have problems with coyotes stealing them or scratching on them every year. Put up an electric fence this year & it has helped.
I’m a first time watermelon grower. I was able to harvest 25+ melons. Not a single one of them was sweet. I wish I knew what I did wrong. Very frustrating.
We don't do anything in particular, as far as growing practices go, to make ours sweet. Usually if the plants look good and they get pollinated, they're sweet. Some years sweeter than others though.
Thanks for replying. At this point I feel as though I’ve watched every video ever made about growing watermelons. And everyone seems to have a different opinion on the subject. I’m going to keep trying, hopefully I’ll figure it out.
Do you know what will ruin a good mouth full of roasted peanuts? It only takes one bad one 🤣 Ty Ty is a mighty handsome young man who could do with a sporty haircut.

One of life’s simple pleasures. Eating watermelon in the summer and it slobbers all over you. Life is good
7 out of 5 lol, talk about cuteness overload ❤. I love the watermelon videos with the kids. Especially TyTy, that child loves watermelon ❤

You two crack me up, can't stop laughing
My gosh Titus is turning into a young man Travis.
Those watermelon slurps made my mouth water. Looking forward to my first watermelon 🍉 tasting this season.

Titus said he was not waiting for you to cut it! Dig right on in!
We bought a "Black Diamond" water Melon two weeks ago...best we've ever eaten.

It would appear that the sweetness test is not really the best measure of how good the watermelon is. Sweetness level is not equal the most flavor.
Good video, my orange crisp was my best tasting this year
I love your taste taster he definitely knows what he's talking about

Please patch whatever it is up and go back to Hoss Tools videos, loved watching you and your dad videos together so much.
Gotta get you some little pigs to help eat melons. Your chickens may be able to eat some but HOGS would really clean up.😊

Looking for the Ducks🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
What kind is the egg shaped seeded watermelon at the back of the tale gate? I wanna grow that kind is it a old watermelon strain?
Sangria. It's a more modern variety.
Sugar babies and black diamonds for high brix. Sun and no rain before harvest they can get to 14.
Bless that jaw jaw education 😂
Don’t forget the ducks. Are they still around?
All but one duck got hit by cars at some point. Not sure what happened to the last one.
@@LazyDogFarm 😢😢😢
Brix level often varies by 3 points edge to heart of melon. Orange melons are sweeter at the edges ime.
* in comparison to reds...., they still have higher brix in the heart.
So what caused the skunk watermelon?
Probably had a little hole or soft spot in it.

Had a tiny hole in it, so it started to ferment basically.

What brand and model of knife do you use?
It looked like the kidknicker by Kershaw.
Benchmade Bugout
Watermelons don't store well they get soggy fast

Where are your duck buddies?! I miss the ducks 🦆!! 😂😂 I bet they’d eat the nasty tasting one for ya!!
All but one duck got hit by cars at some point. Not sure what happened to the last one.
Hey Travis, what happened to the ducks? Did your neighbor eat them or sell them?
They got ran over crossing the road. Not all at one time though.
At 12:25 thought you were going to stab the kiddo.
Travis, how many watermelons did you get from the plot?
Probably between 40-50.
No ducks?
Skunked- rotted?
Do you know what will ruin a good mouth full of roasted peanuts? It only takes one bad one 🤣
Ty Ty is a mighty handsome young man who could do with a sporty haircut.
Just discovered my watermelon suffered from calcium deficiency - just like tomatoes do.
Skunked watermelon?
