I get the feeling about how repetitive the games are in terms of strategy.
I really dislike how people have gotten the wrong message from the AI. To the AI it's not just about territory, they're looking to create weaknesses they can attack in the later middle game. But if you don't know what's REALLY going on it looks like "I can just invade and then reduce everything!!"
So games have a really similar flavor, and it's hard to spice things up when every game you're given impressive influence and the task of eventually killing the thing they make to try and make your influence into zero.
I think the most annoying part about it is the fact that go is a game of balance, so the idea of "I just get more than you" is the correct thought process, but this "I get it all and you get nothing", despite being completely incorrect, works WAY too often for comfort.

If you don’t want to take influence from a 3-3 invasion, you can let it out on one side and build on the other.

Thank you for your brave and valiant sacrifice of playing and posting these repetitive games you loathe!
It's really frustrating getting this style of play thrown at me myself, but seeing the various ways you deal with them makes it way easier to fight off and defeat. So thanks once again!

The three three is very annoying I agree, but I do like me a nice big center. I've lost more than once betting on the big center but it is so satisfying when it happens

I thought that maybe your opponent was trolling you but every time he is black he plays as many 3-3 as possible, so an honest game.

i think there are a lot of players who have high natural strength. they sit down and play from the gut, and it sees them through. just being able to brute force the game CAN get you to SDK or even low dan ranks, especially online. when you can just stomp all over everyone, out-read everyone without trying, why bother to learn the fundamentals, right? a lot of players see the AI recommended moves, and they just kinda take that and wing it from there, counting on their ability to be able to crush you. and, frustratingly, they're mostly right. they get away with it a lot of the time. until they play someone who sees through the bullshit, haha.
i recently admitted to myself that i'm not one of those players. i need to study, i need to stick to fundamentals. i don't see the crazy fancy moves. i have to work lots of tsumego, and play lots and lots of games to stay sharp. constantly reviewing my games, constantly striving and struggling. and sure, it's taken me years to get to 9k. but i've been growing steadily the whole time. and sure, AI helps me review, but I know I'm not an AI. I often don't have that raw power to be able to follow up on the aji later, so it's better to play something that builds and profits right away.
i think these low dans that rely on crazy complicated strategies and brute force tactics will probably plateau there indefinitely. they might be able to bully me now, but i'll surpass them someday, slowly but surely. and i'll play go my own honest way the whole time. there's no rush.
in buddhism we say that if you're born as a god, then you don't suffer as much, and consequently you have very little motivation to achieve enlightenment. i'm not a god player. i'm a hungry ghost. and i'm going to slowly, slowly, eat up all their stones. every step bloody. every rank earned the hard way. and that's okay.
anyway all this is to say that i feel your pain here, lol. for all the players out there like me, who can't counter this kind of play (yet) and just get pushed around, thank you. your work is appreciated

You are right, not basic at all. Entertaining and informative as always.
Way back in 2016 I watched on a Livestream the legendary 5-game Challenge match between Lee Sedol and Deepminds AlphaGo. I took one look at the way the AI was playing and decided that I would never attempt to mimic it. Because my brain is not a supercomputer.
To my knowledge, Lee Sedol is the only human to ever beat a single game against AlphaGo (Game 4 of the challenge). And to this day, I am convinced that the only reason he won Game 4 was because AlphaGo knew it had already won the Challenge match, winning the previous 3 games out of the 5, and therefore "not caring" about the game so much at that point? Ish? There had to be some meta-game thinking going on there. Anyway done rambling lol. Great game.

You're genuinely convinced of that? Please explain your reasoning

Alphago is not an general intelligence bot. It's not a sci fi movie. It uses neural networks and optimization in order to find the moves that maximizes the chance of winning. it doesn't choose to "not care".

The score estimator is the worst part of OGS, hands down.

I believe it relies on Chinese scoring rules, which often gives weird results, especially if there are handicap stones on the board.
