Dancing with Kicks: Mastering the Korean Martial Art of Taekkyeon

  • Taekkyeon is a fluid, full-body Korean martial art focused on kicks, leg sweeps and acrobatic lower body movements. The practice, which dates back 2,000 years, is rhythmic in nature and-to those who master its spellbinding techniques-can feel like dancing.
    This Great Big Story was inspired by Genesis.

    In addition to this Taekgyeon, there is a fight Taekgyeon. Fighting Taekgyeon is very aggressive and pricks, scratches and pulls There are also quite strong things, such as heading. Some of the masters who honed the technique of Taekkyeon, called Nakham, harden the back of their hands and palms by hitting stones and trees, and striking a person's chin with the stone-like hand.

    I heard of this art when researching tang so do, because tang soo do has such great and fast footwork. The taekkyon fighters look like a harsh ballet, both beautiful to look at, and very intense. Stunning. I’d love to learn it or tang soo do.

    idea is similar
    even kicks are similar.
    both utilizes 'push' often.
    also,
    brazilian kick is known for masking the angle. so is tk kick. except its varying horizontally and brazilian kick has more vertical change.

    • @barrettokarate
      @barrettokarate Рік тому +1

      Taekwondo never had stand up grappling. Taekwondo comes from Tang Soo Do which comes from Shotokan. Shotokan had removed most of the grappling techniques you see in Okinawan karate and made it basically striking only art. When the art was introduced to Korea (renamed Tang Soo Do), the Koreans gradually began to focus more on kicks. When the kwans unified to form taekwondo in the late 1950s they continued this and further developed their kicks. Taekwondo basically began to turn into what we see now in the 1980s as it was attempting to be included into the Olympics.

    Taekyun was a dancing game. What you see here is as young as TKD. This was created out of marketing to justify the "korean roots" of Shotokan based TKD. Taekyun is not documented at all, even nationalistic North Koreans never heard about it.

      Wdym I'm pretty sure that taekkyeon has been mentioned at least as earliest as during the reign of King Jeongjo (so roughly late 1700s?). But the thing about it also being a game is also right, one of my grandparents are from just outside of Seoul and she remembers taekkyeon as a fighting game that boys played, not a dancing game. However, she also said that she heard of 택견꾼 (or I guess, 탁견꾼) living in Seoul so I'd presume that taekkyeon was also an actual martial art from at least the 1930s. However, there is some debate about whether it was a folk game first, or a martial art, so you are right kind of.

    • @trex1448
      @trex1448 2 роки тому

      Lol north Koreans also never heard of scorpions or pansori. Doesn't mean they don't exist. Subak, taekyeon are recorded in Chosun records including the royal annals. What are you talking about? The late Chosun dynasty as well as the Japanese expressly banned it which means it was practiced. You are a flaming weeaboo moron.
