    Now I wish the GIMP team would consider adding this as a preset. It's close enough to allow any photoshop user to get back into a good workflow but is different enough that it doesn't infringe on any particular aspect of the program worthy of legal issue. If only...

    Think you'll swap out the default GIMP workspace for the workspace shown in this video? Plan to make your own custom set up? Or are you just sticking with the GIMP default? Let me know!
    **GIMP Update** GIMP 2.10.18 now includes grouped tools by default - inching it closer to the Photoshop UI's appearance and functionality.

    I dont particulary care to make it to look like photoshop, but I do like the cleaner look and flow of this arrangement because the default GIMP layout is a total mess, at least with a layout like this it will be more comfortable to work in.

    • @LordZontar
      @LordZontar 4 роки тому

      Yeah, I just found the Single Window option for the display space, which is a hell of a lot more convenient. Otherwise, I'm fairly used to the GIMP control layout and I'm used to switching back and forth between different applications for photo editing, DTP, and drawing. I've gone several times between PageMaker, Quark, and InDesign over the years. Once you know how these programmes function generally, it's fairly easy to suss out the logic behind the control panels and which menus the functions are under. So I really don't need to make GIMP look like Photoshop but the tips here do help in learning how to arrange the work window in a nice convenient configuration.

      I agree. When I first saw this I thought how messed up and I could hardly make out what was where...tools that u use the most just were not visible! This layout is much much better!!

    I think GIMP should allow the users to switch between keyboard shortcuts, from the default GIMP to Photoshop. And maybe add some of the most used/popular Photoshop layer effects.

    • @mattcoger641
      @mattcoger641 4 роки тому

      There used to be script that would change all the shortcuts to PS equivalent. It doesn't work on the newer versions of gimp. However if you updated after changing the shortcuts they seem to stick. So I have my main machine with all PS short cuts and my laptop that has the gimp ones. And no easy way to change them.

  • @patlab555
    @patlab555 4 роки тому +1

    Point of view...
    Perso, I stick with the GIMP default UI, it's 4 years I use it on a daily basis at work, and just thinking it will look like PS made me sick, yep I use the dark theme, BUT *with the original icons* (not the grayed ones, but the colored icons) ;)
    But I do understand that *people coming from PS to GIMP* will help them a LOT to learn GIMP as they will see a UI that they are comfortable with if it looks like PS, so at the end of the day it's very cool that GIMP can please a wide range of people by being customizable to the point you're are showing on the video (my GIMP is quite customized to MY own way, though).
    Nice video in all case, where I still learn something, great job and big thumb up!

    Thanks for the video, I've been pulling my hair out all day trying to figure out how to organize the work space to dock all the windows where I want them. GIMP certainly made it about as difficult as they possibly could, almost put me off using the software before I even got started. @@DaviesMediaDesign no I'm not referring to adjustment layers. You can double click on the right side of a Photoshop layer and you will see a menue will open where there are two sliders. With these sliders you can restrict the effect of that layer to a particular tonality. Just like luminosity masks but in a much more easier and user friendly manner. Just double click on any Photoshop layer (after the image and mask thumbnails on the empty space of the layer) and check out. The same effect is available in darktable by the name of parametric masks where you have similar sliders with more options even than Photoshop.
