Props for helping the Silver Z out when he was in a jam by giving him a tow and letting him drive yours home. That'd prob be one of my biggest fears of driving the drift car to the drift event.

For a while I was towing a mini tire trailer to events with the Z and people kept telling me I was crazy for that. Eventually decided it made sense to trade the daily in and get a truck and trailer. Still have yet for the Z to break down to a point where I couldn't drive it home, but the truck has been awesome because I can just send it without any worries.

Thanks again for sharing all this. Although I think you’ve managed to persuade me and my kid to stick with AC for a while! The costs are substantial and I’m married to a young lady lol.

Yeah its expensive but as I'm sure you know from the racing days, nothing beats the real thing.

Modifications? Gonna do a video at some point but basically the full front and rear suspension was replaced with adjustable. Angle kit, hydro, coilovers. Mostly stock power, made 290wheel with a tune.

Was the 350Z an obvious choice for a drift car, or did you consider many other car models, before deciding to buy yours?

I was pretty open in the beginning, looking at BMW, S13/14, 350/370z, and G35. Wound up setting on the 350z becuase it seemed to be the best set up from the factory for the money. That and parts are really plentiful.

I was wondering a few things, as someone who drifts only on Assetto but who has spent quite a lot of time doing it, in the hope that at some point I'll scrabble enough cash to do it irl(bear in mind that I don't drive yet so some of these questions will sound very dumb):
    1. How safe is it to clutch kick? I mean - doesn't it damage the clutch to use it like that in a real car?
    2. Why are there four pedals? Or at least it looks like there are...
    3. I have a three pedal setup with my Fanatec pedals: from left to right it's the clutch, the brake and the throttle. Is this the normal arrangement from left to right in a real life manual car set up for drifting?
I ask because I've only just had to completely rewire my brain with gear shifting...see, I spent the last two years thinking you push _up_ on the sequential gear stick to move up a gear and _down_ to move down. Learning that it's actually the opposite meant I had to completely reclibrate my muscle memory. I still shift in the wrong direction when I'm not thinking. D'oh and double d'oh. So please tell me I haven't set up my pedals wrong.
Cheers, like your videos, they've got good vibes.

      1. Clutch kick definitely adds some stress to the driveline, but how much depends on a few factors including how sticky your tires are and how much power you're making. I've got at least a few hundred clutch kicks in at this point and still going strong. Have only seen a couple of guys destroy clutches at events so that's probably more rare at lower levels.
      2. There are only 3 pedals, the one all the way on the left is a foot rest.
      3. Yes, you've got it right... left to right is clutch, brake, throttle and that's standard across all manual transmission cars.
You'll build up the coordination over time, just keep practicing!
