    Didn't look too bad. I wonder if a can of brake clean would help slipping or engaging issues? Without any way to get the dust out these clutches essentially baith in their own filth until something stops working.

      Yeah, if you pull the clutch out and blow it out, pull the forks out and clean them, and the clutch housing, maybe a new slave cyl, perhaps thats a viable option!

    Ben, after taking one apart, can you see any way to determine where the balancing mark would go if one is not marked on a refurbished clutch pack?

    Just a thought .
    These suffer from Severe dust issues in the bell housings as we all know .!
    If a 12mm hole was drilled in the top of the bell housing and a 6mm hole was drilled in the lower bell housing .
    Then Brake n clutch cleaner was funneled into the top hole while car was idling .
    Btw Remove A and B solenoids beforehand .
    This I think is worth a try if you have no other option of removing the gearbox .
    This might work to clean out the bell housing .
    Your thoughts ??
    Replies taken onboard .
    Cheers 😊

      Hi, I've seen people do that for cleaning clutch forks, but not for the clutch. That's an interesting idea, might get rid of some shudder. Just gotta seal up the holes good.

    Thanks! Ben So why did they go from 1 plate to 2? I had 185,000 miles on a 1985 Cougar and never replaced the clutch plate.

      Hi! I'm not sure why they went to 2 clutches. If I had to guess it's for cost savings and fuel economy

    What Manufacturer brand would be the best replacement kit?

  • @Reformed1611

    The question i have would be, how many times would you have to replace the clutch and forks etc. to get to 250k, let alone 500k or more? I have a 2014 Focus SE i bought like 2k miles ago. It's at 161,600 currently. I don't think i could do the job myself and I don't have $1,000 to $4,000 to spend every how ever many miles. The car is fine at the moment. I replaced the battery, it had corrosion on the negative terminal, and i replaced the mega fuse that has the yellow wire attached to it. I had no idea about this car until a month or two after i got it. I just hope it works long enough for me to pay it off so i can trade it in.

      Aside from the auto trans its an outstanding car. With a new clutch, forks and slave cyl (LuK kit) properly installed you should get 100k between clutches. Youll need to learn to live with clutch shudder

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles I've learned the shutter, that's for sure and I've watched every one of your videos on the Focus and about the Luk kit, at least the free ones. I need an obd scan tool, but can't get one right now. Money is tight. The car still does what i need it too.

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles also, keeping in mind that it is a Manual transmission with the computer making it an Automatic helps. Drive and Reverse do nothing until you hit the accelerator, you're basically in Neutral until you hit the accelerator.

    Thanks for this ,I do have a question. I’ve replaced a few of these but I have one after 20 thousand miles started making a scraping like clutch noise only in sixth gear and if I let off the throttle or take it out of gear stops making noise? Any ideas as it’s still driving shifting great.

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles 4 місяці тому +2

      Hi! May be clutch chatter. It's something I've heard on many of them. It's just a noise from the clutch and won't hurt anything else. You can try driving it hard to scrub the clutch and it may mitigate the noise

    Hey Ben, my car started shuddering at 110k miles and its now 119j miles on it, it does shudder all the time in a stop and go traffic, how many miles i can expext on the same clutch?

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles 4 місяці тому

      I'd drive it as long as you can handle it. It'll shudder and eventually all the dust will cause the clutch forks to stick. That's when you'll need to do something
