Well done, Michael! I'm looking forward to reading Roberts' The Thing Itself. It's been on my radar for a while. Also, I'll second the recommendation from @SisterBlake of Jack Vance's Demon Princes series of five short novels. Although not quite spy novels, they do involve a lot of clever intrigue by the main character in pursuit of revenge against some very bad people (the demon princes).
I've yet to read Snow Crash, but I absolutely loved 2001: A Space Odyssey! A movie that may match with an AI going rogue, I would suggest Summer Wars. It's an anime but the ideas of familial loyalty, the misperceptions of said loyalty, and the responsibility of a creator for a creation are really deep.
That’s a good list. Neil Asher has AI in some of his books that are well-formed characters, so much so, they’re more like people complete with our flaws and foibles.
Another title with deep politics, intrigue and AI is The Star Fraction by Ken McCleod. I found the political elements really engaging. It is the beginning of a series (which I haven't completed), but could be a good stand-alone for some action-lovers. I also thought of Scalzi's duology, Lock In and Head On. Much more near-future familiar setting, has a "cop procedural" structure, but I loved the explorations of how much humanity is bound up in flesh and blood, and the potential liberations and pitfalls of digitised / cyborgian existence. They are also written with a gender-neutral POV, such that there are 2 audio book versions of each - one set read by Will Wheaton, the other by Amber Benson. Really interesting use of audiobook formats! Interested the read The Thing Itself, once you gave me a philosophical "in"! P.S. Were you not tempted to parody "My Sharona" for your Dhalgren song?
Nice, thanks for adding to the list. For Dhalgren, I had a few songs on my list. I bypassed them though because I knew Delany had a connection to Martha and the Vandelas... some of thebother contenders were, songs from Metalica, Pink Floyd, or Seven Mary Three....
@@FIT2BREAD Delany has sooooo much to choose from! Just started Babel 17 and my brain is being rewired all over again! It's more that I can't stop singing "My Bologna" in my head....
@coleenocasturme ha! I unfortunately did my Babel 17 review before I started adding music. My Nova review has music and my upcoming Beta2 review will have music too :)
Whoa! Amazing editing. Nicely done!
thanks JK, I hope your broken leg is healing
Great video. The Thing Itself and Diaspora bumped up the TBR.
Nice. I highly recommend both!
Great video Michael. I love how this was done. Editing was excellent.
Thanks Dale

Thanks Moose!@
Colossus, by D. F. Jones. (1966) Two supercomputers take over the missile silos of the US and Russia and basically hold the world hostage.
Yeah good call SJ. Thanks for adding
I wish i knew how to write action
Just open a doc and start typing and see what comes out
A good idea for a list. I'd add The Red trilogy by Linda Nagata to your list. Rogue AI manipulating humans to do it's bidding.
Oh geez...can't beleive I forgot to add the Red. Thanks...great series
2001 is definitely more my speed. 🔴
