Hey bro, enjoyed your upgrade video. Given me some ideas how to do mine. Perhaps I'll just tell you what I did differently: I removed the optical drive and bought an adapter for the SSD which fits nicely into the optical drive slot (after transferring the clip ons). So I'm having SSD for OS and a 2TB HDD for data and other stuff.
That’s also a good way to do it! Thanks for watching!
Thank u…. Now douse me while I rewatch entire series of the boondocks.
Upgrading to a higher TDP cpu wouldn't be an issue, might run a little warmer. I'd recommend a CPU with ~65W TDP or lower. My work optiplex has a e7500 (65W TDP), I'm upgrading to a xeon L5430 (50W TDP) soon. Still a good video.
Higher TDP cpu won’t be an issue if you have a sufficient amount of power supply. Thanks for watching and remember to subscribe that will help me a lot!
the general power supply depends on the format of your case and model of optiplex 780. for an MT 780, 255w so ok. for a usff .... it's less
See you soon
Hello what graphics cards do you use for this Dell optiplex 7800 or if you can recommend me something for optiplex 780. Have a good day thank you.
If you just want to use for watching video and do some document work then Nvidia GT730 will do, if you want to play games then go for GTX 750Ti. If you want newer graphics card then GT1030/GTX1050Ti
@@JackyYBT Thank you for the advice
You are welcome, make sure you get the single slot version graphic not the usual dual slots
@@JackyYBT will a 1050 fit inside ??
Can, as long as it’s a single slot version.
hi sir i have an optiplex 780 sff too, it comes with a 235w psu, an intel core 2 duo e7500, two sticks of ddr3 samsung 1033mhz 4gb ram, samsung hdd 160gb 7200rpm, but no graphics card installed. is it compatible if i upgrade it with a q9500 and gt 710 low profile?
Of course you can, no problem on the power consumption.
@@JackyYBT will my 235w psu fail? despite the gt710 needs atleast 300w psu
I was using core 2 quad Q9500 with GTX750 low profile with no problem
I upgraded the one I use as a server to a Q9550
Noice
Thanks! I upgraded my CPU from the current q8400 to a q9400 but when I boot up it still shows the old q8400 as the cpu. Any idea what I did wrong?
It sounds like your system might not have recognized the new CPU properly. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. **Check Compatibility**: Ensure that your motherboard supports the Q9400 CPU. Verify this on the motherboard manufacturer's website.
2. **Update BIOS**: Sometimes, a BIOS update is necessary for the motherboard to recognize a new CPU. Check the motherboard manufacturer's website for the latest BIOS version and update if needed.
3. **Reinstall CPU**: Power off your system and unplug it. Remove the Q9400, check for any bent pins or improper seating, and reinstall it carefully.
4. **Clear CMOS**: Resetting the BIOS to default settings can help. Locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard, remove it for a few minutes, then replace it. Alternatively, use the motherboard jumper to clear the CMOS.
5. **Verify Installation**: Ensure that the CPU fan and heat sink are properly installed and connected. An improperly seated heat sink can cause the CPU not to function correctly.
6. **BIOS Settings**: After booting up, enter the BIOS setup and check if the new CPU is recognized there. Save and exit the BIOS setup.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, there might be a hardware compatibility problem or a defect with the new CPU.
Thank you! I “updated” the BIOS via flash and that did the trick. Much appreciated 👍🏻
You’re welcome and thanks for watching!
what version of bios are you using?
I'm using version A03, does it need to be replaced or updated?
It seems like you didn’t watch the video until the end. You can watch 9:52 and you will get the answer. It’s better to update bios first to avoid any compatibility issues
Hello, thanks for the video.
I want a processor advice please following the heat sink and general power supply (305w no epa) please for an optiplex MT 780 mini tower.
i have an e7500 duo.
which 4-core processor do you recommend (q8300-q9650)? or other possible on motherboard socket Dell origin ?
do I have to change the heat sink? food will be sufficient? I will put an ssd in place of the HDD and add an NVIDIA GT 710 2gb ram card. all with 8 gb ram ddr3 1333 thank you
Just go for q9650 as that is the highest and most powerful cpu for this 775 platform. If you want core i5 series then you need to buy another motherboard.
@@JackyYBT jacky, OK, thanks. in case the motherboard fails in a few years, what motherboard and processor and cooler will you put so that it does not consume a lot of power, so that the dell 305w power supply can support.
If the motherboard fails in few years time, I will suggest you to build a brand new pc using AMD Ryzen platform.
@@JackyYBT hello Jacky. ok. Just one last question if you don't mind. Can we put any processor supported by the socket 775 of the Dell MT 780 card origin , or should we only put a model indicated on the incomplete list of Dell support in pdf, not updated I think?
Check with the official website is the best but yes any socket 775 cpu should be compatible to the 775 dell stock motherboard.
Intel core2 Quad Q9500, it is OK? Please reply I'm planning to upgrade my cpu
Yes you can install that cpu. No problem
@@JackyYBT thank you so much
You’re welcome 😇
Hi, can I ask whats the video card your using on your Dell optiplex. I actually bought the same one but it does not have any graphics card. I was planning to buy one but I'm afraid it might not be compatible. Can you give me some tips please. Thank you.. (-;
Mine is the Galax GTX 750 low profile graphic card
Hi Jacky YBT, do you think it’s possible to put an intel xeon processor on this specific Dell Optiplex"
Yer Tajj I don’t think you will be able to use a Xeon because the chipset is not compatible and it is not the same socket from what i’m aware.
Yer Tajj nope you can't because this is not a server motherboard
Can you pls review how its working now? Bcoz am thinking to do the same .
I will try to do it, if I have the time.

Hi Jacky, so i put an old hard drive into my 780 Optiplex to see if i have any old pictures and videos on it. But i keep getting the "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" message. If select this option will all of my data such as pictures, videos and documents be deleted from my hard drive? How do i get around this problem
Hi Shawn. The message you're seeing, "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu," is typically related to the system's boot process and shouldn't directly affect the data on your hard drive. However, it's always important to proceed with caution when dealing with data recovery to minimize any potential risks.
To help you get around this problem and recover your data safely, here are a few steps you can try:
1. Don't select the "Delete restoration data" option for now. It's better to avoid taking any action that may potentially delete data.
2. Instead, restart your computer and enter the BIOS or UEFI settings. This is usually done by pressing a specific key during the startup process, such as F2, F12, or Del. Consult your computer's manual or search online for the specific key for your Dell Optiplex model.
3. Once in the BIOS or UEFI settings, navigate to the boot order or boot priority options. Make sure the hard drive containing your old data is set as the primary boot device.
4. Save the changes and exit the BIOS or UEFI settings. Your computer should attempt to boot from the selected hard drive and hopefully bypass the "Delete restoration data" message.
5. If you still encounter issues, it's advisable to seek assistance from a professional technician or a knowledgeable friend who can help you troubleshoot the problem further.
Remember, it's crucial to exercise caution and have a backup of your important data before attempting any recovery process.
@@JackyYBT thank you so much for the quick reply! I tried doing making it the primary option but it still didn't work. I have been looking this up online for 2 hours now, tried everything and still nothing. I'll see if there I a PC store near me where I can take it to. If not then I'll just do the delete restoration data option. Thank you for ypur help Jacky! Really appreciate it.
You’re welcome, thanks for watching too. Hopefully your issue will get resolved soon!
current I have Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 duo CPU E7500 can I upgrade? if i can which would be the best?
Intel core 2 quad Q9650 is the best that you can upgrade
@@JackyYBT Hi, I have a question regarding an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 upgrade. Will the standard 180 watt PSU in my 780 MT be able to handle that CPU + GTX 1030? Thanks
According to Nvidia gt 1030 product page, the minimum power supply requirement is 300W
What is the best GPU that is compatible with this system?
Nvidia side will be GTX1650 low profile GPU and AMD side it will be RX560 low profile GPU.

In my Optiplex 780 there's only 7.84GB RAM usable of 8.00GB. How did you get 8.00GB usable in 10:23? Is it because you're using external graphic card?
Maybe. But when I open task manager and check the usable RAM is same as you.
What about the notch’s on the piece I have a cpu that doesent fit the notch’s
What do you mean by that? As long your cpu is compatible with LGA 775 motherboard then it should fit. (Core 2 duo/quad is using LGA 775 platform)
my CPU processor is Q9400, is it worth it to upgrade to Q9650? kindly respond!
I would say you stick with your Q9400, it’s not a big of a jump from Q9400 to Q9650
@@JackyYBT but it's pretty slow with win 10 running on it
@@josiahsaji upgrade your hard disk to SSD and upgrade ram to at least 8GB. These will help a lot on the performance
@@JackyYBT thanks, but can i use the SATA and the POWER CABLE from the DVD drive to use it on my SSD as a boot drive?
Yes you can
Hello, thank you Jacky for your answers and vidéo .
for info, i operated my dell optiplex MT 780 for the first time. Nickel. upgrade core 2 to q9400 and 16 gb ddr3 1333. I still have to buy and install an SSD by first making a clone of my Windows. A real cooler. 58 degree maximum at full load (4 cores, use 100%, seen with CPU-z) with my chess analysis engine.
Just a question if you don't mind. I have another dell 780 to upgrade, but in DT format. The chip will be an e7500 recover from the other machine. Is it better to leave 8gb dd3 in 800mhz, or 4gb ddr3 in 1066mhz, or recover 8gb ddr3 1333mhz from the other upgrade machine? knowing that the e7500 chip has a fe 1066 mhz bus. thank you.
Just get 1066mhz ram to put in since like you said e7500 got 1066 MHz bus
why did u choose Q9500 from Q6500
Can I put AMD Athlon 3000G?
No, the motherboard only supports intel processor that compatible with LGA 775
can i apply a intel i5?If not what would happen if do?
Nope you can’t, the motherboard of this Dell Optiplex 780 SFF only support LGA 775 processor.
do you think its ok to apply a gt1030 ?
Ya definitely no problem if you install a gt 1030
what is the max cpu upgrade i can do without upgrading the psu?
Intel core 2 quad Q9650
Jacky YBT will i3 9100f also work? I could upgrade my psu if needed
Nope. Unless you change the motherboard, only then you can use i3
Does he can support amd ryzen 3
