Some people say that CSM was overhyped but the reason why it's hyped is cos of everything that comes after this arc. Season 2 will be miles better and way crazier than this season ever was.
Honestly idk how they top season 1 that ending with them teasing gun devil and eve's fight song was too fire imo ( when I say teasing gun devil they literally say they can find him now that they have alot of his bullets
ppl really are stupid for comparing csm and jjk. JJK had 24 episodes but CSM had only 12 episodes, the other 12 episodes would've slapped if they animated them in s1 but yeh it's mappa things
@@dx315yep it was amazing. I just don’t understand how these so called csm fans can hate on the cinematic approach when the manga itself is quite cinematic in its own way. I believe fujimoto himself said he enjoyed the adaption. So I don’t see why everyone is hating
As a manga reader Chainsaw Man anime goat class, they adapt 98% to max 99% adaption, CGI perfect blend with 2d, super gorgeous smoth clean animation and story good. Season 2 is going to be amazing to look so cool!
And the way people talk like the creators missed the point and it was supposed to be wacky and crazy and im like…..YOU MISSED THE POINT OF THE ENTIRE TONE AND PHILOSOPHY OF CHAINSAW MAN
Definitely not goat tier. It was above average and executed well, leaving room for future development. However, season 1 wasn't anything mind bending or unbelievable that had you at the edge of your seat. We'll have to see what future seasons have in store.
THANK YOU!!! I was so pissed by all the knee-jerk reactions and overblown expectations... This anime so incredibly well executed, just an amazing work of art. Love it, can't wait for more.
That poor director, he made an absolute SS+ adaptation. I love the anime so much. The added scenes were genius. The people complaining just don’t deserve great anime. It didn’t do JJK numbers but JJK got 24 episodes which fleshed out the series more. Can’t wait for part 2
Jjk still has less numbers on crunch Both 2 jjk openings still can't beat csm op1 Rumbling had 59 million for 1 year Csm did 65 for 1 MONTH jjk is for shonen addicts who watch anime just for battles When csm is for wierdos like fujimoto))) Csm will never surpasss demon slayer Because KnY is for damn KIDS
I always thought CSM was bound to be a “”disappointment”” ever since I learned it would have only 12 episodes. Whenever I think of the first part of this series,I kid you not I don’t even think about the content the anime adapted, always what comes directly AFTER. What got me hooked in the series was the Reze arc and from there on it just got better. So people hyping up the series with those contents in mind was bound to make anime only feel like it was overhyped, even tho it was an amazing adaptation
I think hells paradise is good, nothing more, maybe a little less. But it definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the animation as JJK and chainsaw man, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad it’s just good, which kinda stinks but also (I’m pretty sure it’s mappa) MAPPA has been doing a lot lately so idk if that has to do with anything
Jigokuraku lacked both time and talent due to mappa handling the majority of the “big” anime like jjk, csm, aot, vinland saga and they even had movies in production and a few other lower priority anime that will air at some point in the future So the first half of the series (which is imo the least interesting) ended up not having the standard quality we are used to in mappa anime I think the second part will be a lot better since the major production will have been concluded thus allowing for both more time and more talented/experienced staff to come and provide assistance
Apart from the opening - which is abstolutely and stunningly gorgeous - Hell's Paradise defonetly got the leftovers from CSM snd JJK. However, in terms of adapting the feeling and story it definetly scored a bullseye. Voice acting, soundtrack, breathtaking backgrounds and added content (Tenza's backstory) are all incredible. It's biggest sin is the animation (which is basically just proper) and somewhat weird pacing - many transitions between scenes were rushed as if they were scared to leave a shot static for 2 seconds to let people breathe and digest what has happend. My guess is that MAPPA pushed it to less experienced staff and cut some of the budget, because the manga has already finished and there is no more need for the adaptation to build up the hype and advertise its source material in order to increase the sales. Honestly a bummer that my favourite of the DarkTrio got the short end of the stick but it always could've gotten the Nanatsu no Taizai or OPM season 2 treatment, so at least we can be thankfull Jigokuraku escaped such HELLISH (ba dum tss) fate.
If i didn't know it was done by Mappa, i would have thought some studio like J.C. Staff did it. That's why i don't like Mappa. They take every hype thing possible and then they don't have enough resources to treat each one equally good. So as a result you get such a contrast like between JJK and Hell's Paradise. You can't even tell it was done by the same studio.
@@Elariesel really, as I said in my comment above, jigokuraku lacked time and talent due to all the other anime mappa was working on But I’ve also said this multiple times that the first part was inevitably going to be average in terms of animation quality, not only because of the lack of time and talent but also because of the first part being far less interesting than what comes after They did improve the animation quality in the final two episodes since that was basically the first major fight of the series. And after that, things get a lot more complicated, both in terms of narrative and action Thus I want to believe that they’ll do better with the second part since, as I said in my previous comment, the major productions will have been concluded and the story itself will demand higher quality
Gonzo should have animated hells paradise in my opinion they were more equipped from an experience standpoint to handle that time period and Gonzo lends its art waaaay better to Yuji Kaku’s art style.
I never got the hate for the movie style of the anime. Like, not only is some of the manga shit just hard to do, it also works as a reference to fujimotos love for movies. It is definitly a different experience, but that is why I like it. As long as the adaptation is good, I don't care if it changes some smaller things. Also the added scenes felt so natural and in my mind could have been in the manga if I had not read that yet.
Dude, the timing of this is wild. I literally finished watching it today, and immediately went "What were all the complaints about? It's great." - I was very satisfied with how everything turned out, I love the cinematic style they went with. (Quentin Tarantino vibe) The music is great, the VA's are great, the animation is great, The CG was good, I can't wait to see how they'll approach Reze and the rest of Chainsaw man! Plus the amazing (movie reference filled) animation for the OP and all the different endings, so many of my favorites popped up for an ED song. All in all, very happy and hope they keep this style for the next sesaon.
Having also watched CSM only like last week for the first time and becoming obsessed. Perhaps because I don't really dip my toes in the anime discourse so I didn't know all that much about it, but I found it amazing, the tone, the music, vibrancy of colours, the epic shots, the nuances, absolutely beautiful. So I read the manga, up to date, in 3 days, and mind you I'm a slow reader. Honestly I found the anime adaptation more approachable than the adapted parts in the manga. But as many have said, what comes next is the real meat and potatoes and if the quality of season 2 and beyond is the same or dare I say even better than 1 then ho boy will this become probably one of my all time favourites.
Glad to hear you finally watched chainsaw man and enjoyed it bro, since the stuff in the anime really expended Aki and everyone else and showed a lot of their personality.😺
I watched the anime before I read the manga. My mind was blown when I found out that the entire season is like 5 books in. There is sooo much to love about the anime and tons more to come.
Great video, we share a lot of the same opinions and it's kinda refreshing seeing a discussion of the adaptation that isn't just dismissive and nitpicky. CSM is in my top 3 manga, and, honestly, to me the adapted portion was better than the manga, even tho the manga was better at most of the comedy bits (to me). I have a lot of faith in how what comes next will be portrayed, I just wish some of the feedback is taken into account and we get less muted colors overall and don't get too hung up on the cinematic feel at the expense of the comedy.
People complaining that the Western movie style "doesn't feel like Fujimoto" really don't know jack shit about Fujimoto lol. _Especially_ if you've read Fire Punch, where film buff bullshit is a major motif in the story. The guy's as much of a Hollywood Westaboo as Hideo Kojima, maybe even _moreso._
Thanks for making this video man. I am absolutely in love with the direction of S1, and to see someone who really gets and appreciates the story of CSM actually defending S1 because this is supposed to be the "chill" setup is refreshing. The crazy shit comes later. People need to fucking get that.
i LOVE how much they invested in all the animation, including the day to day stuff. just watching power walking down a hallway or aki pouring himself a cup of coffee looks amazing! this is what anime should be like! i wish all anime (and animated stuff in general) had this level of animation in *everything*
This was such a great season I read the manga after the anime and I feel the anime matched the vibe and that it felt like an experience. The music and the direction are big stand outs and I feel so bad for the director
THANK YOU!! The Chainsaw man anime single-handedly made me want to go into film and animation, that’s how much I love the direction. I definitely valued the more melancholy aspects of csm so that might be why but I was so confused about people hating on it, like what!?
Hell’s Paradise was dope. I didn’t read the manga, so my opinion is as an anime only watcher with the series, but, I loved it. I think if you like the chainsaw man adaptation, you’ll like Hell’s Paradise.
@@4getmenot182 The anime after the first 3 episodes was pretty much a slideshow. The still frames were so jarring and it took away from emotional impact of a few scenes, i mean they didn't even bother to animate a character crying. only redeeming thing about the adaptation are honestly the beatiful backgrounds and the op i guess. You just can't give a battle shonen slideshow animation
@@arsong9723 They legit had amazing fights between gabimaru and one of the tensen I don't know what still frames you're talking about. You clearly didn't finish the series
Thank you! Appreciate that someone stood up for the director. He did a wonderful job and doesn't deserve all the hatred that's been thrown his way. Love the manga and anime, really hope that mappa decides to move forward with season 2.
I also feel like this is how Fujimoto envisioned his series. He is a massive movie lover so i'm sure he loved the cinematic ass shots that the anime added in. CSM actually felt like a movie.
I don’t see why CSM is so incredibly popular. Watching the anime, they basically haven’t explained anything or gone anywhere. I can see that they are building up to something good, but season one itself isn’t good on its own. They’ve just left a bunch of unanswered questions. It’s not told us why the gun devil wants Denji so bad. It hasn’t explained what Makima is planning and why she is acting so suspicious. What is she using Denji for? And the thing at the end about the house/city mouse makes no sense. I hope the next season actually is amazing and doesn’t leave us asking questions like season 1 has done.
MAPPA decided to adapt the first 38 chapters of Chainsaw Man for the anime. To give you some context, the manga is divided into three parts, with the first part already completed and the second part currently ongoing. Part 1 covers chapters 1 to 97, while Part 2 continues from there and is still being serialized. We’re likely approaching the last 10 to 30 chapters of Part 2. Additionally, there will be a movie titled Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, which will adapt the "Reze" arc, (Chapters 39 to 52). The movie has no release date but will probably release in 2025. Following that, it's expected that Season 2 will be announced at the end of the movie. This second season will likely cover the rest of Part 1, adapting chapters 53 to 97. The upcoming episodes should address many of the questions viewers had from the first season. However, it’s possible Season 2 won’t be released until 2027 or 2028, so you may have to wait a few years for it.
The bit " western cinema style doesn't fit chainsaw" is just so insane to me. Are we talking about Tatsuki Fujimoto ? The dude who will never shut up about how he likes this western movie or this one ???? His love for cinema and specially western cinema is felt throught all of his works. This style that people seems to hate is THE perfect fit for an anime adaptation of Fujimoto's work.
@@funaccount7665people who think the cinematic direction are bad are literally just judging the manga by its colorful covers. Csm, although can be chaotic and wacky at times, is still a very character driven and grounded story. And it's more visible in part 2
@@envybe248 it's like Nakayama just heard fujimoto was a fan of movies period and that's it and didn't bother to look into what type of movies he was a fan of,chainsaw man has a huge b-movie feel like a troma movie or something like evil dead 2 and the tone should have reflected it.
Yo dude!!! Just wanna say because of you, I’ve been reading much much more manga. Been reading more Seinen lately & I’ve been enjoying it so much since it’s been a huge change in genre. Thanks dude!
I never understood the complaints about Makima's VA, like sure even some more mature voice would work. But I think this one is way better fitted considering that she is the... well let's not spoil but it fits her manipulative personality so fucking well!! Very soft, monotone and emotionless voice works extremely well with her character, it was a great casting choice, together with the rest of the cast, they all killed it.
The voice acting got a lot of complain in Japan cuz many people simply couldn't tell what was said, that most character talks in low, mumbly way. It doesn't help that based on interviews and comparison of the same lines and same va in collab games/ other media, that it was most likely a directing choice.
Before the anime happened, I thought the biggest problem was going to be the amount of simping for Makima lol The real problem is that CSM's greatest strength is how unpredictable it is, so if you already read the manga and know the story then that's already lost lmao That said, I think it was a wonderful adaptation and pretty much agree with everything in this video. And I hope that they keep this style since it would be perfect for what's going to be adapted next
"The real problem is that CSM's greatest strength is how unpredictable it is, so if you already read the manga and know the story then that's already lost lmao" I disagree. If you already read the manga it elevates all the stuff you like about CSM. And it's still unpredictable in a sense... because you don't know how certain scenes will be adapted, how much of that impact you'll feel while watching it.
@@sericsson1996 That's basically how the anime felt for me What I meant was that the " chaos " of CSM comes from how unpredictable it is. So there's not much the anime can do there if you already know the story lol
I also waited a little bit to watch the anime adaptation while avoiding most of the discourse and it was so worth it. I just finished episode 12 today and honestly the anime just multiplied the love I already had for CSM from reading the manga.
I never read CSM manga, so I have no panties thoughts on it as an adaptation, but as an anime itself, I LOVED it. And I watched with my six years old bro, he loved it even more (his fav was Pochita, as he just said). That just shows how good this was and how much of a nitpicker some people are.
The adaption overall was really good to me even now and Mappa kicked ass especially the music was so top notch every ED being different like damn and wish there was only more episodes it felt too short for sure but I see why they didn't.
I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with a anime review more. Incredibly well said on so many fronts, love your nuanced take on things, and your ability to actually keep things in perspective. Glad you ultimately really enjoyed what they wanted to do with the adaptation, as did I.
the people saying that the western movie vibe not feeling like fujimoto is stupid. fujimoto grew up loving western film and incorporated it into his work
@@funaccount7665Dont have to. He borrows a lot of elements from western movies by the way he draws his pannels. Even the mundane moments have a very Tarantino vibe to them.
Hells Paradise was done perfectly. Literally the only difference was the lack of CGI that Mappa is known for. People who complained about Hells Paradise are the same ones that thought AOT had bad animation
"Ungrateful bastards" that's the best way to describe those pseudo-fans who had so much expectations about the anime that ended up feeling that the anime was not a good adaptation of the manga wich is, in all honestly, the biggest BS I've read about the anime. Bunch blind weirdos would never been able to witness a masterpiece even if they were at gunshoot to watch it, I pity them. Let's just wait for the movie to be a success so we could see the climax of the show wich is the international assassins arc.
I love the director’s work, changing Fujimoto’s more wacky, balls to the walls style and adapting it into something that feels more realistic and down to Earth. Now i’m just wondering how they’ll do that with some of the upcoming arcs (if a season 2 will be announced) in the manga and if it will even be the same director after all the backlash. I also wonder (once again if they make more Csm) if they’ll do something like adapt volumes 9-11 into a movie to end the anime of part 1
It's an adaptation not a copy idk why people always confuse that I found the director did a great job adapting it do I think it should been a bit more gritty rather then as polished as it is yes. Although that's all within the choices of the director. Maybe he wanted this to start off more polished for it to slowly get more gritty as the seasons go on. I think that would be cool to see that kinda change the styling evolves with Denji
The anime has a pulp fiction noir look. Basically in cinematic simplification it already looks tonally "gritty". Having your line art be rough around the edges does not necessarily equate to "grittiness". I also think the anime captures the muted tone of the "actual colored manga pages". I am not talking about the volume covers, I am talking about manga pages that Fujimoto colored. Cause Fujimoto colors the story pages differently than the book art covers. I feel like people have the misconception that Chainsawman should have looked like the volume covers if it was colored in an anime.
this adaptation does horror and the emotional scenes so far better than the manga but fucks up the comedy and more abstract parts(like the curse devil scene) a litle bit. so overall a great adaptation but i am a bit woried about the future of it specificaly how they are gona handle the darkness devil and the iconic comedy moments(kobenis car ect.)
Just as the chainsaw man church guy said in part 2. We want to see Chainsaw Man fight get bloody and get back up. Its like He put the fans who miss the point of this entire series in the manga and made them the crazy people. If you read any of his other works- to expect the wacky stuff constantly is just a lack in media literacy and understanding.
If there's a season 2, it has to be PERFECT, like season 1 was. And that includes the complete experience (perfect adaptation, animation, teasing, 12 different endings with BANGERS, and so...) Wish this show was better received. I don't get how it has any haters. And YES, I've read the manga. I'm up to date.
It was primarily the Japanese audience that was unhappy with the anime, though there were some western fans too. Some of the statements the director made and the overall way he apparently carried himself certainly didn't help the whole thing. Honestly, the entire thing was just a massive shitshow. On one side, you've got all the harrassment and death threats and all that nonsense, with one Japanese guy even making a program that would spam the director with "1375" (or whatever the DVD sales number was) any time he posted. On the other side, you had a lot of straight up racism and xenophobia tossed towards Japanese fans for not liking the adaptation. You also had people throwing out the pedo label towards anyone who didn't like it. Personally, while I had my own problems with it and can see where people are coming from with their critics, I overall enjoyed it.
Shout out to Ryu Nakayama for sticking to his guns, giving us a cinematic anime adaptation in line with some of Fujimoto's biggest influences, and not pandering to a vocal minority who think that all Chainsaw Man is is "quirky".
To be fair im not a manga reader but i dont know how people hated it especially if they were manga reader and i feel like the cinematic aprouch was perfect this really grounded and serious world that makes the wacky and crazy moments stand out and both Japanese and English voice acting is great and just fit the charchters so well cant wait for season 2
(spoilers ig) glad to hear they gave more depth to himeno in the anime because when she died in the manga I really REALLY did not care about her death, as the series went on her death was more felt in relation to aki who you get to know better and feel more about than her as a chatacter, so glad the anime is giving the time to flesh out the characters more, might check it out for myself
I loved the manga, and I loved the anime. I think it was beautifully animated and for the first time ever I looked forward to the episodes ending so that I could watch all the different end credits. One of my favorite anime openings too.
100% this. I loved the CSM anime, in large part because it felt like the people making it gave a shit. Sure, it changed some stuff, took creative liberties, and I'm glad it did. Anime and manga and fundamentally different mediums, so I think it'd just be poor direction *not* to. Besides, if I want the experience of the manga, I'll read the manga - that already exists lol. I think it's cool that we got something different Also, really glad you brought up how silly it is that some people judge the worth of an anime by it's financial and popular success. Imo it's such a ridiculous way to view any piece of art. By that metric the vast majority of all art has no value since it's never made any money - which is clearly an absurd notion, but so much of the commentary around CSM (and other anime) focuses on it. Some of that's no doubt just people being reactionary and contrarian, but it's no less frustrating for it Anyway, good vid! Based take. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on part 2 once you catch up!
Finally, someone is not shting on this anime for once Sadly, the director is not working on season 2, which means (possibly) no more cinematic CSM moments.
I have been watch Anime since the early 90s. CSM is by far on my shortlist for the best Anime I have seen, from the pacing, art style, music, action and character development.
Yeah I don't understand any of the hate this series got. I've read chainsawman through and even all the new chapters of part 2 and I believe Mappa and the director nailed the style of this story. Loved the first episode when it came out and I can't wait for season 2. Also if you haven't, definitely read the latest chapters.
Wanna see the reaction of those fans who complained of Makima's voice in the anime(really good IMHO) when they find out that the voice of Makima in the stage play is Aya Hirano
One of the best examples of people rushing their opinions of CSM, is with the kobeni in the anime. Many manga readers love Konbeni especially due to the scene of her scaring katana and snake. So, of course, we hype her up when we see her at the end of the leech fight and during the Eternal Hotel, but I saw a lot of anime-onlys seeing Kobeni panicking in the hotel saying "This girl annoying, whats there to hype" (in before 1000 twitter stans spoil it for them). Then everyone sees her pick up a knife and go *devils are scary, humans are nothing*, I saw everyone change their opinion of her and go "Kobeni my beloved".
"I feel like it's this discussion around the mainstream impact and success, and we're using that to determine how good of a work of art this really was, when that's ridiculous" Genuinely great quote
To be far, the anime OG scenes are some of the best. My only gripe with the anime was, that it didn't really adapt the vibe of the manga. They went for a very clean and cinetamic experience. This makes the anime good in its own right, but not as an adaptation. For those who never read the manga, it is probably a 10/10 anime, and lets be honest, it is kinda is. I just wish i could see the grit and insanity the manga had , but animated.
Feel like people are so used to 1 to 1 adaptations that something like chainsaw man was always gonna cause discourse. The fact that people were complaining about certain scenes in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen not being redrawn manga panels proves to me that people still aren't comfortable with directors taking creative liberties over adaptations. I hope that Mappa backs Ryu Nakayama's vision to put an end to adaptations being just animated manga panels.
I doubt MAPPA are going to back up Ryu Nakayama and his vision considering the CEO himself said the anime will have changes in order to sell the product also with rumors about Nakayama no longer being the director for the anime.
As a manga reader (who loved it from panel 1 & really likes p2 so don't strawman me) this is fine on its own. But as an adaptation is exceedingly poor at wut it's supposed to be adaptin & that's BY DESIGN, not an opinion. Fujimoto directly asked for it to be diff before it came out, the director said he wanted to & will attempt to make it diff before it came out, the manga readers who heavily anticipated this whether it be in japan or the West say it's diff. There's CLEARLY somethin goin on there. Jus shruggin off the complaints without tryin to understand wut ppl R sayin I feel is incredibly dismissive, short cited, & plain dumb & I say this as a regular viewer who likes ur content. There's vids by ppl like totallynotmark or the homie damian that go into how that's the case along wit prob plenty of comments in other vids that go in further depth too the issues manga readers have. The added scenes don't add much & hurt the later pacin of the anime where things feel disjointed tryin to hit a certain point. It's clear wit scenes like the train attack on Makima & how she retaliates specifically that they're tryin to give a diff air to her (look at the scene when she gets up in the train & compare it to the panel it's clearly diff on purpose). This show doesn't really do the "cinematic" thing that diff or "exceptionally" in comparison to OTHER ANIME (especially MOVIES) so changin the essence of wut it's supposed to be adaptin feels like a waste cus ppl who watch the anime (especially in the west) aren't gonna go for the og thing. There R parts of the anime that have that essence but they're few & far between & NONE of them R handled by Ryu Nakayama the main director. The action director & many eps or scene directors that helped put this together imo did a MUCH "better" job at balancin that simple/casual, yet chaotic/frenetic feelin the manga had wit the diff vibe Nakayama went for & I'd prefer goin forward 1 of them replaced him or his role was lessened in some way at least. The manga was grungy yet colorful while the anime is jus the usual clean dullness wit grays & immense desaturation. The jokes completely fall flat & jus feel awkward in this diff execution. The endings R "great" & many of them show wut CSM should've been here. I thought the VAs were fine(even great) but I get y some ppl weren't fond of Makima tho in her case I wasn't surprised by wut they went for. Ppl focus WAY TOO MUCH on the whole "he said he likes movies thing" but that has NOTHIN to do wit part 1 of CSM cus while there R minor REFERENCES the experience is NOT a look back or sayonara eri. FLCL is stated as an inspiration for the ACTUAL vibe & direction of the series as well as other things. It'd honestly make more sense for early Shaft(kizumonogatari) or Trigger(even tho they don't tend to do adaptations) to work on this rather than jus mappa(I don't hate that it was mappa but I'm tryin to highlight that the style they went for here doesn't work as well they hoped imo & funnily enough Nakayama worked on KILL LA KILL BY TRIGGER OF ALL THINGS LOL). There's a scene in the Denji vs Katana Devil fight where they're on the train & fall through the roof. The train stops & everyone gets out except for 1 woman. In the manga Denji notices her & defends her before the katana devil uses a charged up attack & loses his arms for it which leads into him usin his leg later. In the anime the woman is STILL there, HOWEVER Denji doesn't MOVE AT ALL jus sittin there like an idiot sayin "whoa hey!" before the attack & loses his arms. The woman is STILL fine & gets out anyways like WTF!? Also the storyboardin for the leg attack is awkward before & after the entire sequence. Idk wut they were thinkin they should've kept it the same or removed the woman entirely cus now they jus hurt an interestin thing bout Denjis' character that stayed consistent in the manga all the way up till that point & beyond, made the scene make less sense overall, AND they gave themselves more work for NO REASON. It's jus bafflin as a manga reader & even as an anime only cus then y is the woman there? There's other stuff but in the end the anime was jus a disappointment & I hope things change in the future but I doubt it so if u enjoyed props to u. It tried to "branch out" but fell into a diff line that's jus as typical as wut it was tryin to get out of. Nobody needs it to be shot for shot the same cus even when He DID do that it wasn't the same. Ppl wanted him to try somethin jus as out there wacky & fun as the manga in a way that works & is unique to ANIME. If he wanted to make somethin diff make it diff but don't say it's CSM & in some respects even anime. I could say the One Piece Live Action did SO much "better" at BEIN ONE PIECE than this is at bein CSM. It feels more like the western Live Action of Death Note(which I know sounds extreme) is at adaptin the source. Fine on it's own admittedly but u're lyin to ur audience new & old that it's the same thing in a different medium.
If comedy elements were hit or a miss for you, I recommend checking out the dub. Due to the absurd amounts of hate that the anime got, the crazy good dub voice acting got swept under the rug. It does very good localisation and does not hesitate from using cuss words which makes it very interesting.. and power's VA is just fantastic
the anime was lowkey good i have not watched it until the hype went down just like you so i see what you were doing i didnt want to watch it with everyone else talking about and to be honest i didnt think it was going to be that good but it turned out really good so i am glad somebody else did the same thing i did when watching this anime
As someone that hasn't read the manga and had the anime experience, I really enjoyed it. Guess it helps not having very certain expectations going in. Why I tend to hold off on picking up manga cause I prefer the anime medium and rather be surprised with stories. Made that mistake with Attack On Titan after its hiatus after season 1.
I haven't read HP so I don't know if yall got shafted there, but the negative reactions that I have been seeing towards JJK S2 and what I saw while CSM was airing just reminded me that a lot of people who watch anime don't actually give a shit about the art itself. They want to consume and be a part of the consumption of something. Like this shit is genuinely beautiful and, as you brought up, some people will send death threats cause they didn't hang on a single image like a reader might have stared at a panel.
Chainsaw man was the first manga I ever read so it has a very special place for me. Personally I really loved the anime and I’m super excited for season 2
I watched the chainsaw man anime in one day and the only thing I had complaints about was just that it was only 12 episodes other than that it was perfect
this was definitely the best anime adaptation i have seen in my life. I dont understand the hate. The team at JJK were definetly influenced by the direction choice of csm because jjk season 2 has similar choices made. However CSM was more polished and was genuine eye candy.
I'd say what "feels like Fujimoto" is the pacing that comes from his paneling and the cinematic feel and comedic bits that comes from it, which is impossible to recreate out of the medium of manga, which is why ppl are salty about it "not feeling like Fujimoto".
I watched the first episode which was good at first, but then afterward I told my brother about it and when I said everything I saw out loud it sounded so freaking dumb. Let me guess it gets good in the 50th episode. I still don't get why this is popular.
I think the Chainsaw Man anime was amazing. I think the CG was incorporated properly and the "worst" CG was in episode 1 which still looked good enough. I liked that the anime had different endings for each of the episodes. This is something unique I haven't seen in any anime before. I think the only real complaint from manga readers could be the comedy but even that is handled well enough.
Some people say that CSM was overhyped but the reason why it's hyped is cos of everything that comes after this arc. Season 2 will be miles better and way crazier than this season ever was.
They got baited by someones hype in the comments.

It fits his style pretty well because fujimoto is a move buff

Yes. Everything but the 3D cgi.
That poor director, he made an absolute SS+ adaptation. I love the anime so much. The added scenes were genius. The people complaining just don’t deserve great anime. It didn’t do JJK numbers but JJK got 24 episodes which fleshed out the series more. Can’t wait for part 2

People were hyping it up as soon as there was an announcement which makes sense. No one knew what the episode count was going to be back then
THIS MAN CAN'T STOP TAKING THESE HUGE W'S
I think hells paradise is good, nothing more, maybe a little less. But it definitely doesn’t have anywhere near the animation as JJK and chainsaw man, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad it’s just good, which kinda stinks but also (I’m pretty sure it’s mappa) MAPPA has been doing a lot lately so idk if that has to do with anything
Jigokuraku lacked both time and talent due to mappa handling the majority of the “big” anime like jjk, csm, aot, vinland saga and they even had movies in production and a few other lower priority anime that will air at some point in the future
So the first half of the series (which is imo the least interesting) ended up not having the standard quality we are used to in mappa anime
I think the second part will be a lot better since the major production will have been concluded thus allowing for both more time and more talented/experienced staff to come and provide assistance
@@Elariesel really, as I said in my comment above, jigokuraku lacked time and talent due to all the other anime mappa was working on
But I’ve also said this multiple times that the first part was inevitably going to be average in terms of animation quality, not only because of the lack of time and talent but also because of the first part being far less interesting than what comes after
They did improve the animation quality in the final two episodes since that was basically the first major fight of the series. And after that, things get a lot more complicated, both in terms of narrative and action
Thus I want to believe that they’ll do better with the second part since, as I said in my previous comment, the major productions will have been concluded and the story itself will demand higher quality
It's great."

I was very satisfied with how everything turned out, I love the cinematic style they went with. (Quentin Tarantino vibe)
The music is great, the VA's are great, the animation is great, The CG was good, I can't wait to see how they'll approach Reze and the rest of Chainsaw man!
Plus the amazing (movie reference filled) animation for the OP and all the different endings, so many of my favorites popped up for an ED song.
All in all, very happy and hope they keep this style for the next sesaon.
I just completed the series and why is everyone talking about REZE???? I DONT GET ITTT!!!! If its about the last scene, I dont really get it!

Nakayama literally told them to not overact and sound more plain.
Before the anime happened, I thought the biggest problem was going to be the amount of simping for Makima lol
The real problem is that CSM's greatest strength is how unpredictable it is, so if you already read the manga and know the story then that's already lost lmao

I also wonder (once again if they make more Csm) if they’ll do something like adapt volumes 9-11 into a movie to end the anime of part 1
i fell in love im chainsaw man in how they can kill an iconic characters without any warnings and never goin be mentioned again
I hope you watch the Bleach TYBW anime too, mainly because if I recall correctly, you liked the manga version
this adaptation does horror and the emotional scenes so far better than the manga but fucks up the comedy and more abstract parts(like the curse devil scene) a litle bit. so overall a great adaptation but i am a bit woried about the future of it specificaly how they are gona handle the darkness devil and the iconic comedy moments(kobenis car ect.)
What about the family burger scene how are they going to make that "realistic" when it's pure comedy?
Excited to see your impressions of Pluto anime
Great analysis.
If there's a season 2, it has to be PERFECT, like season 1 was. And that includes the complete experience (perfect adaptation, animation, teasing, 12 different endings with BANGERS, and so...)
Wish this show was better received. I don't get how it has any haters.
And YES, I've read the manga. I'm up to date.
I thought the anime was incredible. Never had a complaint. The voice acting was spectacular, and the art and animation were picturesque.

Uff, that thumbnail brooooo woof, wooof WOOF!
I think it's cool that we got something different
Also, really glad you brought up how silly it is that some people judge the worth of an anime by it's financial and popular success. Imo it's such a ridiculous way to view any piece of art. By that metric the vast majority of all art has no value since it's never made any money - which is clearly an absurd notion, but so much of the commentary around CSM (and other anime) focuses on it. Some of that's no doubt just people being reactionary and contrarian, but it's no less frustrating for it
Anyway, good vid! Based take. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on part 2 once you catch up!

To be far, the anime OG scenes are some of the best. My only gripe with the anime was, that it didn't really adapt the vibe of the manga.
They went for a very clean and cinetamic experience. This makes the anime good in its own right, but not as an adaptation.

Dude aki's voice does not fit the character at all in the dub.
the anime was lowkey good i have not watched it until the hype went down just like you so i see what you were doing i didnt want to watch it with everyone else talking about and to be honest i didnt think it was going to be that good but it turned out really good so i am glad somebody else did the same thing i did when watching this anime
Id love to see some videos abot part2 its getting REALLY good
Chainsaw man season 1 was a super cinematic expierance
As someone that hasn't read the manga and had the anime experience, I really enjoyed it. Guess it helps not having very certain expectations going in. Why I tend to hold off on picking up manga cause I prefer the anime medium and rather be surprised with stories. Made that mistake with Attack On Titan after its hiatus after season 1.
I don't care what anyone has to say it is a 10/10. The amount of quality is top tier
People always get upset, no matter what. The only really bad thing that can happen to an anime is people not caring about it at all.
I watched the chainsaw man anime in one day and the only thing I had complaints about was just that it was only 12 episodes other than that it was perfect
no makima then the anime it would literally blow up i mean am not even kidding
this was definitely the best anime adaptation i have seen in my life. I dont understand the hate. The team at JJK were definetly influenced by the direction choice of csm because jjk season 2 has similar choices made. However CSM was more polished and was genuine eye candy.
Cm is just absolutely sublime. True beauty
What coincidence, me too just a few days ago….. I’m hooked 😂
Community post with your ranking of the endings (find the full version too of the 1st 8th 10th and 12th)
I'd say what "feels like Fujimoto" is the pacing that comes from his paneling and the cinematic feel and comedic bits that comes from it, which is impossible to recreate out of the medium of manga, which is why ppl are salty about it "not feeling like Fujimoto".
Love your shit dawg
yeah...they did Hells Paradise a lil dirty. Also my fav out of the dark trio ngl
I love your videos ❤🌹
as a Hoshi no Samidare fan I will never be able to experience hype recoiling into utter disappointment that hard ever again
