She Caught First Sailfish on New Boat!

In this episode we head out at dawn to go deep sea fishing off the coast of Miami, FL. Target species is Sailfish, Mahi, Tuna and King Mackerel. Using live bait, we found some nice fish and had a great day. Chef Valerie even caught the first of this species on the new boat! Let's give her a big Thumbs up!

I fished the afternoon outgoing tide yesterday too, in 160 feet a bit north of where you were. Great day, fast drift but plenty of bites. Caught Blackfin Tuna, Bonito, Mutton Snapper and lost at least 4 Kings to cut offs. Got spooled by an unknown BIG and FAST fish that dumped my reel in no time!
You are right, a bit of current makes all the difference.

I know you’re aware that this is only my 3rd winter fishing Miami and as I’ve shouted to you a few times out on the water, “Thanks for everything you do to help teach guys like me!”
This winter I got into fishing with the kite and it’s been very productive. I learned how to do it by watching Online vids, but would absolutely appreciate seeing you do an instructional vid from launching to retrieval of kite + hopefully a hookup in between 😎
I may have learned how to fish with a kite, but I’m FAR from an expert.

Captain Mike, when you have multiple baits out like that are you fishing them at different depths using your egg sinker and rubber band technique?
If Valerie tends to get seasick get her some ginger capsules you can get them at any of the vitamin places. They are usually 800 mgs. take 2 when you leave the dock. She will NEVER get seasick again. No side effects and no drowsiness.
Mike good variety of pelagic love when those moments happen on a beautiful day. You mentioned north current from your perspective why is that good for sailfish?

The majority of the time depending on wind/current.

Mean while I’m fishing in this old dingy stained up Alabama water! And Capt Mike is reeling in three sailfish mahi mahi and king macs and a shot at a black fin tuna. Hahaha I’m walking around with nothing cause he has it all. JK Alabama fishing is pretty good to.
