      Here is some information that might be useful. The following information is provided for educational purposes only and not as expert advice. Your specific tax situation may differ, please check with your own financial or tax advisor.
      In general, in the United States, it is generally reported on Form 1040, specifically on the "Foreign Income" section, which includes Form 1116 "Foreign Tax Credit" and Schedule B "Interest and Ordinary Dividends." The RRSP contributions would be reported on Form 8891 "Foreign Trusts With a U.S. Owner." Keep in mind that you will need to report the fair market value of the distribution in U.S. dollars and any foreign taxes paid on the distribution. It is recommended to consult a tax professional or reference the IRS website for more information.

    This is why we need a Flat Tax. Very well laid out, but still.

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  Рік тому +1

      Advocates of a flat tax argue that it simplifies the tax code, promotes economic growth, and reduces the tax burden on individuals and businesses. Opponents argue that it is regressive and disproportionately benefits high-income earners while placing a heavier burden on low-income earners. It's important to note that the implementation of a flat tax would require significant changes to the current tax system, and there are a variety of factors to consider when evaluating the potential benefits and drawbacks of such a system.

Also, report all transactions, including sales, purchases, exchanges, and payments received, on your tax return. Income received as virtual currency should also be reported.

    Can regular credit card and loan payments be considered for Adjusted Gross Income deductions?

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  7 місяців тому

      Regular credit card and loan payments are typically not deductible when calculating your Adjusted Gross Income. Regular payments on credit card debt or personal loans are not considered adjustments to income. These payments are generally made with post-tax dollars and do not reduce your taxable income. The interest on personal loans, including credit card debt, is also not deductible. The only exception might be if the credit card or loan was used for business purposes, in which case the business expenses (not the payment itself) could be deductible. It's important to consult a tax professional or refer to IRS guidelines for your specific situation, as tax laws and regulations can be complex and subject to change.

      @@moneyinstructor In the video you mentioned SS tax and Medicare tax and said "make sure you add all the withholding numbers to have the complete picture." So what is the answer, I would also like to know because you said something totally different during the video.

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  Рік тому

      Adding the withholding numbers for a complete picture, was referring to the total amount of taxes withheld from your income, which includes federal income tax, Social Security tax, and Medicare tax. You may add the total amount of taxes withheld from your income as this is separate from filling out your 1040, and will give you a comprehensive view of your tax situation. However, it's important to note that while these taxes are all withheld from your income, they serve different purposes and have different rates. Social Security and Medicare taxes specifically fund those respective programs, while federal income tax is used for general government revenue. When filing your tax return, these taxes will be reported separately, but understanding the total amount withheld can be useful for your overall financial planning.

    what other form is needed to fill out if you have 1099 and How do you fill it out? is it easy like the 1040?

      @moneyinstructor  Рік тому +3

      Here is some information that might be useful. The following information is provided for educational purposes only and not as expert advice. Your specific tax situation may differ, please check with your own financial or tax advisor.
      In general, if you have received a 1099 form, it is typically used to report income that is not from an employer (such as freelance or contract work), and is usually sent to the individual by the entity that paid them. Depending on the specific circumstances and the amount of income earned, the individual may need to file a Form 1040 (U.S. Individual Income Tax Return) along with Schedule C (Profit or Loss from Business) or Schedule E (Supplemental Income and Loss) to report this income to the IRS. You may also need to pay self-employment taxes. It is recommended to consult a tax professional or reference the IRS website for more information.

      @@mousiex_o Here is some information that might be useful. The following information is provided for educational purposes only and not as expert advice. Your specific tax situation may differ, please check with your own financial or tax advisor.
      A 1099-G form is used to report certain types of government payments, such as unemployment compensation, state or local income tax refunds, and credits or offsets of state or local income taxes. If the only government payment you received was unemployment compensation, and you are only required to report that income on your federal income tax return, then in general you would only need to report it on Schedule 1 (Form 1040 or 1040-SR). However, it's always a good idea to check the instructions for Form 1040 or 1040-SR to make sure you're reporting all the required information, even if you received other types of government payments or have other types of income to report. It is recommended to consult a tax professional or reference the IRS website for more information.

      You can use pre-made Excel templates for Form 1040 to facilitate your tax preparation process. Several platforms offer such templates. Just make sure the template is up-to-date for the current tax year and double-check all calculations for accuracy. Using a template can save time, but it's always good to consult a certified tax advisor for personalized advice.

    what happens when the gross adjusted income is lower than standard deduction?

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  8 місяців тому

      Generally speaking, if your adjusted gross income is less than your standard deduction, it essentially means that your taxable income would be zero. Consequently, having an AGI lower than the standard deduction typically means you won't owe federal income tax. However, it is often beneficial to file a tax return even with a zero taxable income. Filing a return may allow you to claim refundable tax credits, which could result in a refund, or to qualify for other benefits. Additionally, a filed tax return serves as an official financial record, which can be important for future loan applications or for certain government benefits. Since tax laws can be complex and change from year to year, it's advisable to consult with a tax advisor to ensure you're making the most of your tax situation and fulfilling all necessary tax obligations.

    Where do i communicate that i do not have dependents?

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  Рік тому

      In general, if you do not have any dependents to claim on your tax return, you can indicate this on your IRS Form 1040 by leaving the section for dependents blank. In other words, you do not need to provide any information about dependents if you do not have any.
      However, if you are using a tax preparation software or working with a tax professional, there may be additional questions or prompts related to dependents that you will need to answer or address in order to complete your tax return accurately. It is always a good idea to review your tax return carefully before submitting it to ensure that all of the information is accurate and complete. Please check the form 1040 instructions and consult with a tax professional if you have any questions.

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  Рік тому +3

      In general, you either claim the standard deduction or itemized deductions. The standard deduction is a set dollar amount that reduces the amount of income that is subject to federal income tax. Alternatively, some taxpayers may choose to itemize their deductions on Schedule A, which is attached to the 1040 form. Itemized deductions are a list of eligible expenses that a taxpayer can use to reduce their taxable income, rather than taking the standard deduction. The taxpayer must choose the option that results in the lower taxable income. However, if you checked any box under Standard Deduction (for example if someone can claim you as a dependent), then see the 1040 instructions.

    Why didn’t you fill out line 37?

    • @moneyinstructor
      @moneyinstructor  7 місяців тому

      In the scenario of the example given where the total payments on Line 33 exceed the total tax on Line 22, it indicates that the payments made surpass the amount of tax owed. Consequently, Line 37, designated for indicating any additional tax owed, would remain blank as there is no outstanding tax liability in this instance. Instead, this situation typically results in a refund.
      Nevertheless, it's crucial to verify the accuracy and completeness of all entries on your tax form. If you observe that Line 37 is empty, yet you anticipate an amount should be present, this might suggest a miscalculation or an error in the form's entries. To address this, a thorough review of the entire form is recommended, or consider consulting with a tax professional for guidance and clarification.
