Here's a little Haitian secret to increase the flavour... after the first fry, soak each pieces that you pressed in salted walter before doing the 2nd round of frying !
Yes and either rub lime juice on it if you aren't going to soak in salt water...
hahaha ! Se vre? Mwen kontan anpil ou di sa, paske ayisiyen gen anpil move repitasyon a koz povrete nou nan rejyon a. Men si sou pou manje, nou fè bon manje vre! Mwen ta renmen visite Matinik yon jou.
oui, c'est du créole haïtien. Je crois que la personne a supprimé son commentaire.

if you want to peel off the skin from the platain faster, put them under warm to hot water and the skin would come off smoothly
As a Puerto Rican, I sprinkle with Adobo, Garlic, and Salt. Sometimes I even squeeze lime on them. Thank you for this helpful video as I am trying to better myself in the kitchen.
So simple .. Loved this and you're awesome! 😁 I'm dating a Dominican and trying to impress .. Wish me luck 😂😂
Hi. A neighbor gave me two fat Hawaiian green plantains from his garden and told me to make tostones with them. I knew what they were but never made them myself. I've followed you for years and knew you would have an easy recipe for me to follow. You did not fail me. They came out superb. Thanks❗❗😋
My Dominican Mother in law would be so proud of you!! Make some fried cheese and salami and sautéed vinegar onions and you got yourself breakfast! great video! thanks!
Muchas gracias! They look so delicious. Looking forward to cooking plantain just like you have shown. Woo Hoo!
OMG, thanks so much CHEF!!!! You just saved me some $$$ I'd been looking for a Tostones Press and couldn't find one locally so I settled for the idea of buying one online. My hubby suggested looking on YT and look at what I found? One of my favorite channels had a recipe for how to make them and USING what I already had in the kitchen (a can). Thanks so much :)
I love when you take a bite of the toston at the end.
Very nice,
I'm and american but my husband is Puertorican and I'm trying to learn how to cook some of his food from Puerto Rico.
Thanks Bunches
My husband is going to LOVE these!! Thanks Chris!!
Thanks for demonstrating how to make these...I'm going to try it.
I have made these with the green bananas from the trees I have. They are great. Thanks for the video.

Thank you hermano for the recipe. My grandmother would be proud.
OH CHEF!! I don't even know your name : ) I am so excited I ran across you in a search. I am a midwestern gringa, and a private chef, who had never even eaten Cuban food, now living in Miami! I have so many Cuban clients and am studying my ass off to try to do things familiar to Cubans, and I was totally helpless until I viewed your first video. They are the most thorough, and professionally worthy! I am watching every one. Thank you thank you thank you! Tu eres una santo!! (I am struggling with my Spanish too : ))
I just followed this recipe step by step and made the best fried plantains ever!! Thank you ❤️
Making this for the first time ever! Thanks for receipe.I'm a st. Lucian new subscriber

Great job this is very easy for anyone to make. Thanks brother.
My Nana used to make a mix of sugar and salt, and would sprinkle that on them. Really good cause you get that sweet and sour combo. Great video...

You are a great teacher...thank you
Great recipe can't wait to try !

This is so mouth watering, will be trying this tmrw. Not sure if you've ever tried this Chris, but to peel my plantains I just give it one slice at an angle all the way down(or three could work). I put it under the water and keep it running and start peeling the skin just comes right off.
my great grandmother was jamaican and i love Caribbean food a lot
wow-i learn about foods i have never heard of from you chef! these look really interesting!

OMG I love these. In Costa Rica we call the Platicones... Sooooooo good.
He pressed them the way I like lol, not too thick and the edges get extra crispy whoo. I like mine crispy to the point it is almost hard
This looks great....I will definitely try one day
Thanks for showing the whole process - including the peeling

Great recipe!!! Thanks Chris
Gracias por Compartir la manera de como preparar Tostones..
considero es una delicia!!!!! ya veo porque no me quedaban tan buenos a mi.. y es que no sabia que se dejaban reposar en agua antes de freirlos...
Saludos desde Texas..!!!
omg thank you so much i love them.....your awesome
its so delicious
yummy
Never thought of using a can, that's smart. I used to use plates or other items but they never got a good squish. Sometimes the toston sticks to the surface, so the parchment paper makes sense too. Some good advice here for a puertoriceña far from home. :3
We do this in Haiti too! Called bunun fri "fried bananas" we like using the unsweetened kind a lot and dip it in salt water and continue frying it yum!
THANK YOU! ! !
I need to learn this for my spanish final (Pick a country and make a dish, mines is Dominican Republic and I have to make this dish from that country)
Sooooooo good !!! I'm going to make the
Thank you for this! I'm Colombian, an I grew up with them. First with my grandmother making them, then my mother (who taught me how to make them.) You made them the way they are supposed to be, lol, not that there's any real way to mess up tostones. I'm looking now, but do you have any sweet plantain videos? The ones made out of the yellow plantain?
thank you for this video!
Greetings from Curacao! Also Caribbean. We speak Papiamento, Dutch English and Spanish. Great job brother! I hope some day you will post our "Jambo ku Funchi" or our "Kadushi ku Funchi" and dont forget to check out the "Funchi Hasa(fried cornmeal)". Blessings!!!
Apenas regrese de la República Dominicana, y estoy
Muriendo para comer tostones. Gracias a tu video voy a cocinar los :-)
Nice instruction.....excellent.
Besides saying that Puerto Rico is an American state, this was a terrific how to for an amazing side dish!!
These are so delicious. I like the green plantains. Just don’t cut them too thick or thin. An inch is perfect.
Delicious !
Thank you for the shout out!!! #TriniAndDominicanRepublicPride
Looks good.
thanks. came out great! :)
Love your recipes. I always do this recipe but i use green bananas and fry them in coconut oil then follow the same process
Don’t forget your Mayocatchup dip! Looks great!
I use a glass with a heavy base to smoosh mine. I just set them on a plate, then smoosh them, then finish cooking them. Works great everytime...
Jerk chicken wraps is our favorite..Was a big hit with my kids....
Yo bro you got to give us Jamaicans some love. We make it but Jamaicans Tostones are bigger. I love the Dominican Tostones.
Chris...I am looking forward to seeing you make pastelles.
tastes good!
That's you so much for this video
great video! All around !!
yummy.
Thank you very much brother
Excellent video. You came off like a pro. You need your own cooking show. What kind of oil do you recommend? Corn, or Vegetable oil?
New subscriber here!! Wepa 🇵🇷
I love plantains!
Good one, remember seeing a video on these a few years ago. Will try em........if I can get green bananas here!
Gracias !
I make mines the same wayI love these I make them all the time with the sea salt topping. We eat them up before they even get fold! Lol
knife skills on point
Hey carribeanpot I made a video about how to make this with a different way to peel the plantains, but also included a way to clean the utensils and cutting board from the stains plantains can cause. Also, was wonder if you will be making the platano burger on your channel anytime soon?
¡HOLA!
Podría utilizar pietaje de este video para un video que estoy haciendo? Dare credito!
I'm gonna make this soon :)
This is bunun fri.... yummy
Can just fry instead of waiting for it to soak it if I plan to eat it right away?
Love your thrones came out just right crispy like the Cornell KFC mayokepchup yes. Delicious😘😋😑😘😏🤗😋😋
I've been eating this for years as breakfast i think i'm addicted, just ate some too and it's 1am.
Eating some right now
we like to soak ours in cold water with salt and garlic before cooking or we dip it in a garlic dipping sauce
Tostones are one of my favorite snacks/sides. My son loves them too. I like to use minced fresh garlic with a little EVOO and sea salt. Great recipe as always Chris!
Thank you for the recipe I'm making Grio ... 😂 Not sure if I spelled it right but looked delicious and serving this as a side
I use plantains that are just beginning to ripen _ just a hint of yellow . The plantain peels better the flavor is not sweet but that great taste of the new fruit .and use a splatter guard . You'll be happy .
There is nothing better than tostones with a "mojito de ajo" or a mayoketchup mixed with "ajo"!
me encantan los tostones.
venga a mi casa y prepararlos gratis .. gracias amigo :P
Geera Chicken was another favorite...Great for people who do not eat Geera Pork...
What do these taste like? I don't have any Latin or Caribbean cuisine restaurants in my area but I want to try them. PLease describe they look good.
Had some yesterday from a Cuban restaurant and they were very tasty. Ours were topped with shimp, cheese & pico. I loved the crunch on them, and surprisingly they were not very sweet, but more savory. Give it a try.
Caribeanpot - do you ever add garlic to the tostone slices?
hello Chris, my favorite chicken recipe is the OVEN BBQ Chicken!
I'm actually Haitian and we usually cut the plantains into 1 inch rounds, fry them the first time, flatten then then dip them in salt water before frying them the second time. Also, I add some vinegar and/or lime juice to the water. Delish!!!
Whoa that's great advice! I'll try that tomorrow. Greetings from Puerto Rico!
Is just a simple dip enough? no need to soak? let me know..
Sounds dangerous, wouldn’t you need to dry it back off again? As water and oil do not mix
Robert Sterling don’t soak them, they’ll disintegrate
