I loved this era of Indycars. Zanardi was incredible. Greg Moore was a hero as well. If he hadn't sadly died at only 24 yrs old he'd have gone onto win everything in Indy and then f1
Indy has always been great, but it will never be the same after Alessandro left it. He shouldn't have tried F1 with Williams in '99. He would have been even more dominant than ever... But yeah, Alex is Alex... I hope he recovers from his latest accident... :(
Montoya(then Williams test driver who won the F3000 Championship in '98) replaced Zanardi at Ganassi. If Zanardi stayed then Montoya would have made his F1 debut in '99 instead of '01(which means Montoya would have never raced in CART if Zanardi didn't leave). A seat at Williams was vacant for '99 because Jacques Villeneuve left the team for BAR.
Alex zanardi suffered a horrific accident in the Indycar in 2001 just 4 years before he was back in the car at the WTCC where he won his first of 4 wins for BMW
To think this man never ran the Indianapolis 500. If not for the split assuming he still gets the target ride, he undoubtedly has his face on the Borg Warner trophy. How many times is debatable
There's only one driver who's influence during such a short time was equally big - Gilles Villeneuve. Zanardi was way more successful, though. I knew I was watching something special back then.
Are you serious? Google him and start by watching CART races from 1996-1998 on You Tube. He's one of the best if not the best people to have ever driven in North American open-wheel ever. Toronto CART 1998 is one race to start with.
My question is this: If Zannardi was able to win 15 races in 3 years... What would Senna have done? Senna did a test drive for Penske in 1992 to test the water for 1993. The only problem was Emmerson Fittipaldi was signed just a few days earlier, but that was a bit of a surprise. On test day, Fittipaldi best lap was 49.7 and Senna 49.09 on the same car. Penske did really well in 1993 and 1994.
It wld depend on what car he is in. Granted Senna is a greater driver however in this level F1 OR Champcar. The team and the car ur driving is just as important as the talent. Zanardi was an excellent driver. But he Def didn't have the fastest F1 Cars
A freaking OVERhyped OVERrated driver. He never won without the absolute best of the best. He couldn't do shit with second best. That's why I knew he would flop in Formula One. He was even worse than Michael Andretti who couldn't even drive the McLaren at the time.
In any moment of the history of motorsport this manouvre would be considered illegal. Where is the sportmanship when you use a runoff area to gain advantage over the competitor? "The Pass" only achieved such recognition because Americans love to make marketing out of situations like it.
As a huge Zanardi fan, thank you! I still feel that he is one of the all time great IndyCar/CART drivers and bothered by his situation in F1.
I miss CART in the 90's. Such great races, awesome cars and great drivers!

I remember watching all of these races as a kid. My brother and I loved Alex and always pulled for him.
Nice to go back in time as an Alex Zanardi-fan.
Two of the racers died during a race.
Jeff Krosnoff and Greg Moore.
Overtaking on the last lap of the Laguna Seca GP was fantastic
Keep fighting, Alex ❤

Had Montoya had to join another team, can you imagine what a rivalrly they would've had in 1999? OMG
@@amjan Yes! Imagine:
Zanardi / Chip Ganassi
Montoya / Kool Green team
Year: 1999
Epic!!!

Was thinking the same thing as I watched this video.

Me too. I was between 11 and 13 back then and I knew I was watching history being made.
Super Alex ❤
Never heard of him but having 7 wins in season is pretty cool

cero points with Williams was a poor result, but had some good moments like 4th in quali on Italy
And here we go... Senna's fans without being able to stop pushing everyone around with "if's"...
The only reason Senna tested with Penske in 1992 was to pressure Ron Dennis for the seat at McLaren in 1993.
🍍❤🍍🏁
Too good
Senna F1 and Zanardi CART ❤
Thanks for this!
I’ve known his conditions are improving 😢
can u do jimmie johnsons wins in monster cup series
Stumbled across this Johnson comment that's funny he only had 84 wins by the way

Your problem is obvious. I suppose he always had the fastest wheelchair, too?
"The Pass" is illegal. Deal with that.
Not in '96

@@l-2112 the rule making it illegal didn't exist in 96.
Whatever isn't prohibited is allowed, that is how it is.
Whether it was illegal or not, it was still badass because it was done in the corkscrew, the most insane part of Laguna Seca.
